Visiting Harlingen for work I stumbled on this place by accident while driving around. I stopped in…read moreto get a burger. The place was nicely decorated with cow hides on the walls. An overall rustic feel. The menu was a bit limited. I ordered a single patty burger and onion rings. When you get your burger its plain but you can put any and all toppings you want on it. The burger wasn't much to look at but when I bit into it I thought it was pretty damn good! Stop in here and check it out yourself! Support a local business! Note: this location was in a plaza located at Ed Carey Blvd & Sunshine Strip 77. Looks like they used to be located in the mall a couple of exits west down the freeway.

Try the custard, skip the burgers and fries…read more The custard was definitely the hit of our meal. My mini turtle sundae had silky custard and perfectly toasted pecan halves. E's Snickers concrete with added strawberries was tasty too and had plenty of add-ins. The burgers and fries were less impressive. My kids combo looked the same as the adult burger; the only difference was the adult burger included onions and had two patties (see photos). The patties were disturbingly thin and more like meat pancakes than burger patties. The fries were really thin too. The food was edible, but meh. I would come again for the custard. They have lots of options (shakes, concretes, sundaes, cones, mix-ins). I think it would be good just plain without any toppings.

Absolutely delicious burgers. They are huge and really taste homemade…read more The fried fish needs some work...the batter was not as crispy as I would have liked, and was a little too light and soggy. The same went for the fried okra. Everything else was nice. The atmosphere was cool and comfortable, the style/decor was awesome (Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Cash), and there's a jukebox where you can play almost anything you want. The one problem I had (and it was a big turn off for me) was that my glass was dirty. There was some sort of residue encrusted at the bottom. It looked like the glass was old, but I didn't care. If it looks like that it should be cleaned or thrown away. I stuck to ordering a mixed drink just to stay away from their regular drink glasses. At any rate, I'll definitely be going back. I HAVE to try the chicken fried steak!!!

Highly recommended!

My buddies and I got off the plane in South Padre Island and headed directly to Smoke for lunch!…read more Gott love Texas BBQ and Smoke eas no exception. Good sized place inside and you order from the friendly staff at the counter and I got brisket slices, which is strange for me, since I usually get pulled pork, but I was on vacation. I got Mac and Cheese for my side. Food was ready pretty quick and all delicious. The mac and cheese was buttery and cheesy and al dente and the brisket was melt in your mouth. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Good stuff. The ambience was your basic Texas BBQ place, all good. Give Smoke a shot!

As close to the Boarder as you can get with Mexico and this is some of the most disappointing…read moreMexican (Tex-Mex) I have ever had. First, of course, the chips and salsa. The chips were hard as rocks and had zero salt. Seriously NO SALT. They felt like they had been made the day before. The salsa was underwhelming. I was hoping the food would redeem the chips and salsa but they did not. I got 2 cheese enchiladas, a taco and a chalupa. The taco shell Was stale. I dumped the meat out (that's all that was in the shell) onto the chalupa hoping to add some flavor. None! The ground beef was bland. No seasoning- just regular cooked ground beef. Mi took one bite of my chalupa- lettuce and what tasted like baby food beans. The cheese enchiladas had a lot Of cheese melted on them and very little in them. Tasted like melted cheese in a flour tortilla. My husband had the spicy flounder. It came with 2 nice portions of flounder, cooked very well, however once again, it lacked flavor. I thought since it said spicy at least it would have some seasonings but my husband had to have the tartar sauce and ketchup to eat it. The food was very reasonably priced. Had the taste been there I would have recommended it. Nice little restaurant if you are sensitive to spices this might be the place for you. However as native Texicans, we expect our food to have at least salt and pepper. Wait staff was attentive and professional. We had ordered a baked potato go for our son before we got our food. I'm hoping I can update this post, but not holding my breath.
