A friend and I golfed in Somerset and in returning back to the Pittsburgh area were looking for something to eat. I suggested HillBilly's as I stated previously, has been something I wanted to try. It has a fun vibe with ceramic characters and animals throughout. The entrance included a gift shop with fun Hillbilly merch, the bottom floor that was more of a standard dining area, the second floor includes a bar and a decent stage area, as well as a decent deck/outside patio area. When we visited karaoke was going on. We ordered drinks and as for food, my friend ordered the pot roast, which he really liked. I got the meatloaf sandwich, which I liked as well. It was meatloaf smothered with pimento between two slices of Texas toast Service was fine. They were busy and it was loud, but we were well taken care of.

Salad...not very good and again...the dressings looked like they had been reused for several days. And hey...guess what...your customers don't want Texas Toast for every item that they order...you don't get offered an alternative. I got the club sandwich, and it was a single level sandwich served on Texas Toast. If I want a greasy bread sandwich, I'll ask for it. Don't get me wrong...I like Texas Toast, but this was waaaaay overdone. Overall, it was barely okay. Service was decent...the couple sitting next to us...hey...cover your mouths when you are sneezing loud enough to shake our table...and when your child drops its food on the floor...no...it is not okay to pick it up and put it back on its plate...or maybe I'm wrong...you may have been working on boosting lil Bubba's immune system... Meemaw (the hostess) was pleasant enough.

I spent a long day tooling around the Laurel Highlands and wanted to get back to Pittsburgh before…read moredark. However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8). I don't think I've had homemade pie that good since gorging at Valois back in my olden grad school days in the South Side of Chicago. What a nice surprise to have such a delicious square meal in a place called Indian Head. FOOD - 5 stars..tasty, reasonably priced diner fare exceeded my expectations AMBIANCE - 4 stars...clean and spacious diner SERVICE - 5 stars...friendly server made a big difference TOTAL - 5 stars...if I'm ever in western Pennsylvania, I'd be back RELATED - Exploring the Pittsburgh area? Very friendly calm restaurant, they do achieve a calm ambience with a slightly smaller parking lot but that's not an issue. They deserve a bigger parking lot and more customers but either way, they're doing it right here. I got the "fiesta" which was a fried tortilla bowl containing mixed greens, pico de gallo, avocado, corn salsa, cheese, grilled chicken and homemade ranch for $16. Very worth it. While I eat small portions, a normal person should expect to be satisfied with this amount of food. It was everything I wanted in a salad. The waitress was very friendly and polite. It had good reviews on Yelp, so I decided to give it a go. And I'm glad I did. Everything was excellent. The outdoor seating was nice, the workers were friendly, my waitress Jae was very attentive, and most importantly, the fish sandwich was top notch. It certainly seemed to be freshly made and not frozen. I ordered fries on the side in addition to Cole slaw. The slaw was nice and creamy. While I generally don't like battered fries, these were pretty tasty. The only slight negative was the cost. At almost $30 for my sandwich plus a beer, it seemed a little pricey to me. But sometimes you have to pay for quality. I will return.
