To begin with, I highly recommend you avoid this McDonald's location altogether. Moreover, the customer service here is extremely poor and disappointing. If you are looking for exceptional customer service, clean bathrooms, and orders made to perfection - you should probably turn around and avoid the McDonald's on 5200 South Lake Park Avenue in Hyde Park. This is the best McDonald's in the world for a bad experience. It is January 29th at 3am CST as I write this review. I just placed an online order and had to cancel it because the lady working tonight said the systems are down. She then proceeded to tell me to place the order again when breakfast starts because that is when she will restart the system. She refused to reboot the system at 230am. Oddly enough, this is not the first time this has happened at this location. For some odd reason, the system goes down at night and they tell patrons to come back during breakfast hours. How can a billion-dollar company have a system that shuts down conveniently on Saturday nights when I use this McDonald's location? While that is what set me off, the location is probably the dirtiest in Chicago. I have come here for coffee and it looks like the place was not cleaned the night before. If your systems are down, don't you think other duties could be done? If you love the smell of piss and bathrooms that have not been cleaned, this is the perfect location for you. Management takes pride in not listening to patrons tell them that the bathroom needs to be cleaned. Last and not least, management needs to train staff how to read orders correctly. I think the worst interaction with staff is when a drive-thru attendant argued with me because I asked for unsweetened iced tea and received sweet tea. He told me that I ordered sweet tea and told me to read the receipt. I showed him the receipt and he didn't like the fact it said unsweetened iced tea. He was upset. It is nothing to be upset over, but he couldn't handle the fact he was wrong. It was strange. I visited early in the morning, expecting service, but was met with a long line of cars, each moving on after waiting at each of the checkpoints giving the allusion that their orders were being taken. When I got close enough, I noticed that there was no voice over the intercom so I moved forward as everyone else did. It wasn't until I finally got close enough to the window to realize after each car had stopped, orders were also not being taken. When I finally reached the service window, a staff member eyed me from inside the restaurant but did not approach and moved on. What a waste of everyone's time. A star is too much to give given the experience. Invest in sign that will alert customers that the drive thru is closed. read more

I very rarely come to any McDonald's but we didn't feel like cooking and at Lent we cut out red meat so now that McD has fish, chicken, etc we thought we'd head down. There was only a short line and a helpful order-taker. I got chicken tenders with sauce and a caramel sundae (Didn't know about the Jeni's Ice Cream acceptance yet!) We left with no drama or attitude and enjoyed the food, which was accurate. I WAS a little miffed that the sundae came in a cup with a hole in the top of the container and we were doing take out, so I had to hold it while heading home so none of it would spill or collect debris! When we received our order at the drive thru window we were only handed one bag. We proceeded to check the bag and of course the nuggets were not in the bag and they also shorted us one cheeseburger. Luckily we were still in the parking lot when we realized this mistake, and so my husband walked in and told them what we were missing. Not a good experience. Waited 10+ minutes in drive thru line just to place my order. Granted, it was a busy time of day, but in my experience with other fast food breakfasts, that's a very long time to wait. There are also two microphones to order at, which I think contributes to confusion. After another 5 minutes of waiting I was able to pay at the first window. When I got to the second (pick up) window, the service person didn't know what I had, asked if I'd paid for it already and went off to see where/what I ordered. It doesn't seem like they have good systems in place to expedite service. After another few minutes I got my order, and it was correct. However, because of the way the drive thru is laid out, cars were blocking my path to exit. I couldn't go anywhere until someone pulled out of line so I could exit. It's a really bad design, especially when the parking lot or drive thru is crowded. I'd advise you to find another option if at all possible. read more

Forget the slow service and the wrong orders. The restrooms in this establishment are atrocious!! Sticky floors. Dirty mop water smell. No paper towels. 'Push' to dry hand air dryer - Side note: Didn't this location open up in 2015 or later? Brand new construction and no hands free technology in the restroom appliances (i.e. auto toilet flush, faucets, hand dryers).....CHEAP! Shall I go on; I shall: Toilet paper pieces ridden on the floors of the stalls. Messy toilets. To open the door to exit the restroom, you have to pull the door handle (which would be semi ok if you all had paper towels). No, just no! There is NO excuse for this in any restaurant. I'm sure the employees have to use the same public restroom. Ugh! So you're going to pull open the door, with no paper towels, with freshly washed hands that already touched the button on the hand air dryer and proceed to make a Big Mac? NOPE. And the restroom is under lock and key, which I understand to limit inappropriate use in such a high traffic location. However, with that controlled access, you would think the restrooms would be kept a little better than this. You all NEED to get on top of this. I don't care if it was a busy day, get on that ish. There is nothing particularly special about the food at this McDonalds - it's the same as every other McDonalds in the USA. I just want to point out that I like how it sort of functions within Hyde Park as a meeting place for people in the community - high school students come here after school, older people hang out. I like how it stands in contrast to all the stuff the University is building right next door (multiple story Innovation Centers, etc.) And I do like McDonalds food (if you are lucky to get a fresh batch of fries or chicken nuggets). Not like McDonalds will listen anytime soon, but you put too much bun for the meat. Case in point, the Classic Chicken Sandwich, which is $3 - is really good fried chicken. The bun, as always, is too much and ruins the chicken's flavor. But you also get a few pickles and some signature sauce. I also love the Holiday Pies at McDonalds, although they are only available for a month or two. They have an egg-custard-like filling that reminds me of those chinese custard buns. Sometimes I wonder how McD would do as a skewered-food place. Where they focus more on meat/vegetables versus their awful buns. They could also skewer fries I guess. Just a fantasy though. I also highly recommend the Hot Fudge Sundae. It's around a dollar and the hot fudge is kind of chewy but melts in your mouth. I love McDonalds vanilla ice cream, too. It's clearly made of something strange but it has this unique taste and doesn't trigger lactose intolerance as strongly as other foods! read more

My experience with this location of McDonald's is probably the slowest service I have ever had in my entire life at this fast food restaurant. I was in the drive thru, and I'd seen the long lines in the drive thru before I went through, but I still did it because I was craving their food, and at the same time, it was the closest restaurant I could get food, which I also think is the quickest restaurant, and I was really famished too. I understand that the restaurant is busy, and it is also my fault that I waited so long in the line at the drive-through. It is also my fault that I still fell in line even though I already saw that the line was long. What I do not understand is that, when it was my turn, I was about to say my order in as nice a way as possible, but the employee seemed to be really rude. Additionally, I was told to wait again even if I only ordered six pieces of chicken McNuggets, fries, and a drink. I was about to be mad, but the good thing is that both the McNuggets and the fries were hot. The fries are so crispy, and I like that they are well-seasoned. They also put every sauce they have, and my favorites, which are the honey mustard and spicy buffalo, are in them too.
