Fancy college livin', this is…read more For those who're fortunate enough to call First Street Towers their home, it's about as good as dorm living can get. And by good, I mean 'clean', 'quiet', and 'DAMN THAT SH*T'S EXPENSIVE'. We're talking major sticker shock here, folks--to the tune of $14K per academic year. This is in stark contrast to Cary Quad's $7K/year room & board. So is it worth it? Yes and no. The building is still shiny new and fits right in with Purdue's vision to appeal to a higher class of clientele. Each floor has two recreation areas with HDTVs and sofas, as well as a pair of clothes washers/dryers, a microwave and study table. Elevators are speedy and well-kept. Living here, you know you'll get the best facilities on campus (printers, lounge areas, etc)--the people are what will make (or break) your experience here. First off, the cleaning staff (each floor has its own) are very friendly and approachable. They're some of the nicest, most under-appreciated people at Purdue--so talk to them, even if it's just to say hi! The other faculty.....well not so much. Nancy at the front desk is, well, a 'not nice 4-letter word.' Usually irritable, occasionally condescending, really not the best person to greet first-time visitors. I fondly recall one time where I deftly swiped a dessert from across the street to snack on back in my room. Turns out, she reported me for theft of--wait for it--A PIECE OF PIE. Henceforth known as 'The Cherry Pie Incident', it got me into some seriously hot water with the residence manager, someone from HR, talk of potential police action......honestly it was a lot of unnecessary heat brought on by one person lacking a sense of humor. It was a major bummer. Aside from that, living here my sophomore year was one of my fondest memories of Purdue, and I met some fantastic people through living at First Street Towers. I loved the southern-looking view from my 5th floor room, even if the front desk people were problematic. This place is ideal for recipients of an academic scholarship or students whose families have deep pockets. Those on a tighter budget should only come here to use the FREE washers/dryers and give Nancy a hard time. Tell them 'Eric S' sent you. "Oh, you mean the cherry pie dude?" Yeah, that guy.

One star is too generous. Do not make the mistake we did. If…read moreyou're reading the negative reviews and wondering whether they're exaggerated, they aren't. In our experience as current residents, they are factual and reflective of daily reality. A major ongoing issue has been excessive utility charges tied to HVAC problems. When those charges were questioned, maintenance did not seriously investigate the equipment. Instead, responsibility was shifted onto residents, with explanations that amounted to being told the problem was simply that we didn't know how to operate a basic thermostat. That response was dismissive, inaccurate, and insulting--especially given the persistent performance issues with the system. What stands out most is the pattern. Concerns are deflected, responsibility is avoided, and residents are left absorbing costs and stress for problems that appear to stem from management or maintenance failures. The consistent tone is not one of problem‑solving, but of wearing residents down until they stop pushing back. Based on what we have experienced, it is our opinion that this rental agency's business model prioritizes profit over people, particularly those who may not have the time, money, or legal resources to challenge questionable and potentially predatory practices. The imbalance of power is obvious, and it feels intentionally leveraged. Prospective renters: please take the negative reviews seriously. They are not emotional outbursts or isolated complaints--they align closely with what we wish we had understood before signing a lease. If transparency, accountability, and good‑faith treatment matter to you, learn from others' experiences and look elsewhere.

I just moved out and they stuffed me with a 400 dollar cleaning fee…read more I went through the trouble of cleaning the place to mitigate as much of the cleaning fee as possible but it didn't matter because all my efforts just went to waste as they still price gauged at the tiniest blemishes. Who even charges 400 plus for cleaning and touchups? There were no damages to furnitures or flooring, and yet Redpoint management people were dumb enough to hire cleaning crews that charges absurd amounts. The incompetency of this property is simply absurd, to deduce my cleaning efforts are worthless in order to price gauge as much out of the tenants as possible to take advantage of the fact we are moved out and cannot bother them anymore.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!…read more If you're considering living at Verve Apartments, managed by Cardinal Group Management, let me save you the trouble: DON'T. My daughter's experience as a tenant there was nothing short of a nightmare due to Verve's negligence, discriminatory practices, and retaliatory actions. Here's what happened: Ignored Complaints About Unsafe Living Conditions: My daughter's roommate had her boyfriend effectively living in the apartment, violating the lease and making the living situation uncomfortable. Despite multiple complaints to Verve Management, they did absolutely nothing to address this issue. False Accusations Taken at Face Value: After a dispute over shared resources, her roommate filed a false police report claiming my daughter had poisoned her milk. The milk in question had been locked in a private refrigerator in my daughter's room for nearly a month before the alleged incident! Even after the District Attorney cleared my daughter of all charges, Verve continued to rely on the roommate's unverified claims. Retaliatory Eviction Threats: Verve issued an eviction notice based on the false allegations, without conducting a proper investigation or allowing my daughter to defend herself. They acted as judge, jury, and executioner, treating her as guilty until proven innocent. Financial and Emotional Damages: Verve's mishandling of the situation forced my daughter to vacate prematurely, leading to: - Storage fees for months of May, June, July, and part of August. - continued liability for lease payment through July despite vacating the first week of May due to Verve's unwillingness to mitigate continued threats from the old Roomate and threats of additional relations. - The stress and cost of moving twice due to their failure to create a safe living environment. Discriminatory Practices: While Verve was quick to act on false accusations against my daughter, they ignored repeated lease violations by her roommate and even relocated the roommate to another unit after the situation escalated. The new roommate also experienced similar issues and reported them, but Verve again took no meaningful action. Lack of Accountability: Verve only acknowledged their error months later, in February, after I spent a month providing evidence to prove my daughter's innocence. This ordeal wasted countless hours of my time and caused significant emotional distress for my daughter. Final Thoughts: Verve Apartments is poorly managed, unresponsive to tenant concerns, and quick to retaliate in unfair and discriminatory ways. If you value your time, money, and mental health, look elsewhere. There are plenty of other student housing options that won't treat their tenants like this. If you are a tenant who has experienced similar issues, the following remedies for relief can be pursued. If this applies to you, please send me a message--I am interested in pursuing a class action lawsuit. 1. West Lafayette Human Relations Commission 2. Tippecanoe County Human Relations Commission 3. Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) 4. HUD Indianapolis Field Office 5. Indiana Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division 6. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 7. Small Claims or Civil Court If you've been affected by discriminatory practices, retaliatory actions, or landlord negligence, please reach out. Together, we can take action.

My aim here is that critical paper we learned in COM114 (irony) - I wish I could tell my HS self to be smart and study a trade. Better pay than most college grads, security, freedoms, and options like living in a small or big city, and crucially, avoid debt that bankruptcy can't clear. Purdue cost me $54,000. Worth it NO.WAY. Sadly many end up like me. I can happily say for you smarties, engineers, mathstat, the like, you have good odds here. I'm talking to 1000s like me who try Purdue thinking it will offer options lesser colleges can't. NOT.TRUE. I started Industrial Design, then to Computer Graphics, then graduated in Financial Planning 11 semesters, 55+ faculty, I had things to work thru but don't mind me! this is where it gets good About 35% of the faculty were ideal, full on personality, what a world class education center should hold dear. Shout out to Mr. Haywood in Bus Law! A good many did ok but a good many did not. Dr. Ma in both Risk Management and Investment Strategies never graded HW, made us help with his research in each Lab, and we found (later on) that final grades were RANDOMLY assigned to fit the bell curve. This is hilarious right Also a Dr. Snuggs taught some classes yet only graded on paper formatting not content. She hinted at unresolved childhood issues and made comments out of place outside of therapy. Her teaching was low standards for a WWI orphanage. It's a hard deal to see your money funding issues you can't fix. Some will say that is life! Learning to deal with difficult people is smart training for work later on. But no way! I am paying big money for an education not for a pencil pusher to waste everyone's time. If I'm supposed to learn motivation and responsibility from people like them, I should've taken online classes and figured it out with way less expense. Purdue seems to be looking for those odd kids too lazy to teach themselves with adult courses online but also just motivated enough to walk to a class taught by a pinata. Meanwhile my sisters were at Ivy Tech, 14 the cost and not a complaint with the teachers there. Purdue is like an Apple Watch; sure it's cool but it'll be outdated next year and worthless in three but as long as no one says anything let's keep playing this game! OK issue #2 I recall students acquiring solutions to exams in German and a few other classes. My group's white paper in ENG420 was on cheating. We concluded Purdue (most large colleges) unintentionally are a masterclass to enable kids to get away with cheating. Most students are now in a GroupMe to share solutions to HW not to learn. There's a pervading dirty reality hidden behind cheaters, frat parties, suicides, and teachers - things we don't want to talk about. US News ranks Purdue highly (which is hardly an unbiased assessment according to - again - we ignore the reality and keep chewing the fat) yet where's the rankings that include police reports per undergraduates and how well trained one feels at a new job Purdue has little influence to make sure students are doing well and can access the support they need on a big lonely campus. I never had the support or resources a well funded and recognized school should; where is the proof my 5 years and $50,000+ were worth it But again, forget me! A few Purdue students commit suicide every year. That is awful. Put that on a billboard Pete. You're blowing your endowment on new buildings and marketing while a couple kids blow their life. I want everyone to succeed and become the best they can be. As a Purdue grad, I sadly cannot say Purdue is worth its recognition nor is there a guarantee for the career boost one may anticipate. What will it look like for Purdue grads in 10-20 years I see a suspicious generation growing up doubting how much they can learn in a classroom compared to on their own reducing Purdue's image and worth. At the least, Purdue needs to get back to ensuring classrooms don't waste time, student's psychological needs are met, and education quality is based on a broad spectrum not just those who succeed and answer a survey. No one should go along with the hype to rush weak (another bad pun sorry) into student debt cuz your friends are. Purdue might be right for you but chances are it's not.

When I moved in the original apartment that we had was given away to another group of people. So I…read morehad to switch my internet, electric, and insurance to the new one in a day with zero heads up until I got the key. At the time the price was $495 month with $10 in garbage and pest control. They paid for $30 of water a month as well. Internet is through xfinity and at the time they offered free cable (not HD). The coax plate only works in the main room. Since I have lived here for a year they have went through at least three property managers and dozen of staff members. They didn't mow for the first six months I lived there. A/C went out couple weeks ago took them five days to fix. The maintenance guy is nice but seems like he half asses jobs. We still have multiple paint patches missing since move in. Covered them with pictures on the wall. Nice appliances, but the freezer ice machine isn't even hooked up to water. Overall you get what you pay for that cheap in/around Purdue. It has great potential just needs more attention then what they give it. Also the air filter that they give you is garbage and wasn't replaced since 1/12/20 when I moved in 7/31/21. We will see if we get our deposit back. Will be upset if we don't for how bad it was when we moved in move out is 7/31/22. Other than that was spacious for the price. Paid about $120/month in electric. Poor insulation around external walls and poor sound barriers. Package theft occurred one time from a different resident the delivery guy left in out in the open at the bottom of the stairs. Which was not the norm. Normally leave it right by your door if too large to fit in the mailbox.

Do NOT move in here…read more I'm coming up to my second month here and I finally moved into the apartment that the lease specified. From the top: A few days before the specified move-in date in we received a phone call from the property manager saying that the apartment was not ready as the remodeling wasn't done yet. They said to alleviate the inconvenience they would put us in a temporary town-home and have staff members move our belongings from the town home to our apartment. We were told the remodeling would be done in a week. A week passed by, then we were told two more weeks as it wasn't ready yet. Week 3, apartment was not close to being ready. We were lied to and being toyed with again. We finally moved in two weeks later after that. It took 5 weeks late to finally over into the place we signed a lease for on a specified date. The entire time waiting for renovations to be complete, we lived out of boxes with our furniture disassembled, and no internet. We were essentially squatting in a place that isn't technically ours and couldn't function like a normal household. The only reason we were patient and waited is because people were going to be moving our belongings to our apartment, which is on the third floor. It's a good compensation to not have to carry stuff to the third floor. On transfer day, the staff was 2 hours late to help us move our belongings, and it took motivation by complaining to even get it started. I felt bad for the maintenance staff moving our belongings because it's not their job to be movers and they're being punished for an administrative disaster. They moved our furniture to our apartment but only hauled the boxes to the bottom of the stairs of the building and then disappeared to never be seen again. There were still boxes in the town home we were moving out of! The guys just gave up and left when the job was nearly done. So I still had to carry a large portion of my belongings to the apartment, contrary to what was promised to us for being inconvenienced. To wrap it up, do NOT move in here and if you're a current tenant that has a way out to legally terminate the lease, do it. We are moving out as soon as we can once the lease is up. By far the worst renting experience and it's only been the first month of living here. The office staff has absolutely no idea how to stay organized and be on top of their obligations to their tenants.
