I talked to some firefighters yesterday and they said they had to come to Fuse FOUR TIMES IN A DAY to rescue people from the elevators. They don't do upkeep or preventative maintenance. The apartments are great, very spacious and maintenance so quick with assistance in case of an emergency. The laundry is also cheap. I never had any problems, and when I had, Ashley was so very nice and kind to help me. The rent is also not high as compared to other places around Purdue. The bus stops are close and Payless and Walmart are walkable. The biggest support is your landlord, and unlike granite who are always ready to charge you a bomb for little things, who never return your security deposit, Ashley was always considerate and did more than i could expect. My daughter's experience as a tenant there was nothing short of a nightmare due to Verve's negligence, discriminatory practices, and retaliatory actions. Here's what happened: Ignored Complaints About Unsafe Living Conditions: My daughter's roommate had her boyfriend effectively living in the apartment, violating the lease and making the living situation uncomfortable. Despite multiple complaints to Verve Management, they did absolutely nothing to address this issue. False Accusations Taken at Face Value: After a dispute over shared resources, her roommate filed a false police report claiming my daughter had poisoned her milk. The milk in question had been locked in a private refrigerator in my daughter's room for nearly a month before the alleged incident! Even after the District Attorney cleared my daughter of all charges, Verve continued to rely on the roommate's unverified claims. Retaliatory Eviction Threats: Verve issued an eviction notice based on the false allegations, without conducting a proper investigation or allowing my daughter to defend herself. They acted as judge, jury, and executioner, treating her as guilty until proven innocent. Financial and Emotional Damages: Verve's mishandling of the situation forced my daughter to vacate prematurely, leading to: - Storage fees for months of May, June, July, and part of August. - continued liability for lease payment through July despite vacating the first week of May due to Verve's unwillingness to mitigate continued threats from the old Roomate and threats of additional relations. - The stress and cost of moving twice due to their failure to create a safe living environment. Discriminatory Practices: While Verve was quick to act on false accusations against my daughter, they ignored repeated lease violations by her roommate and even relocated the roommate to another unit after the situation escalated. Appliances are nice and I love their balconies. Nice amenities, but we haven't used all of them much, due to COVID. Abby, Dustin and Rachel (staff that we've dealt with so far) have gone out of their way to be helpful. The apartments are a bit disconnected from the busy roads, which is a welcome change for us.There are restaurants nearby and plenty of walking trails in the area. We were asked to remove all furniture from floors, unplug and store all electronics as well as board our pets which we already pay an extra fee for. When expressing how unreasonable this ask is, especially with it being the middle of the semester they are unwilling to work with tenants. My roommate and I have emailed many times expressing our frustration and have been meet back with lackluster emails offering no help. This apartment is also extremely loud. The $100 a month parking is a complete scam - most apartment complexes provide free parking such as Morris Rentals which is a few streets down. The staff has verbally lied to my friends and I on multiple occasions while we have stayed here. The community manager is incompetent at her job and has rarely helped with any issues. When my aggressive roommate broke the door to my room there were no repercussions even though I expressed I no longer felt safe living in the apartment with him. When I was first looking to move here I was promised a certain room by a Hub staff member, but it was my mistake for not having them write it down. They instead put me in a room which had a bathroom on the direct opposite end of the apartment. I also asked the staff member if anyone else had already signed for a room in the apartment I was looking at, and they said no. I found out a couple months later that someone had signed for the room I wanted a week prior which is why they put me in a different room. When I first moved in I was delighted to see that a huge glass pane was shattered in our kitchen and the floors were filthy. Luckily they did not have us pay for it, but it shows how much effort they put into cleaning up the rooms before people move in. Hub's community manager isn't much of a community manager - unless community manager means making life miserable for the residents. Half the time she is on vacation somewhere and thus unavailable. However, even when she is available she is very unhelpful. She seems to have very little knowledge about the information in the lease agreement because when asked about things she either says she doesn't know or responds with something that is incorrect with regards to the lease. When my roommate was put under investigation by West Lafayette police for sexual assault I requested that he be moved to another room at Hub since I no longer felt safe in my own home. He also broke into my room which I promptly reported to the community manager. However, he wasn't moved or even fined for what he did because his parents are lawyers and Hub rather not lose money than do the right thing. I spoke over email with the regional manager who didn't do much either, however, he did waive the $500 sublet fee so that I could switch rooms. One strange thing about the situation was that there weren't any other rooms available to move into when I asked about it, but when my dad called there was suddenly space available. It is clear they see us as children and do not take us seriously. My other two roommates and I were forced to pay for our aggressive roommate's room in order to get him to move out to another room in Hub (where he is currently living), so all of us are now paying 33% more just to feel safe in our apartment. Though the small relief they did provide didn't last long, because when I decided to sublet my place they decided that the $500 would not be waived. There are many better places to live in West Lafayette with much nicer staff. Hub has a nice homey vibe going for it, but it is just a façade to lure people into living here.
