Once you head through the first dining room and down the steps, you're greeted by a warm, homey dining room with a surprisingly spacious bar. It has a comfortable neighborhood feel, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit. Our cocktails arrived in about 10 minutes, and the hush puppies followed about 20 minutes later. They had a nice flavor, but were much denser and chewier than I expected. The bigger issue was the wait for our entrees. With the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, nearly 50 minutes for fried chicken and jerk chicken felt excessive. The good news? The chicken absolutely delivered! Both the fried chicken and the jerk chicken were packed with flavor and easily stole the show. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, while the jerk had a wonderful balance of seasoning and spice. Those dishes alone made the meal worthwhile. Unfortunately, my mashed potatoes arrived warm instead of hot. After such a long wait, I was hoping everything would come out piping hot, and that side just missed the mark. Cole slaw was fresh but pretty boring in the flavor department. I really wanted this to be the five-star experience that so many others have had. While this visit didn't quite live up to the hype, the quality of the chicken showed why Pineapple Eddie's has earned such a loyal following. We'll happily give them another shot someday and hope they earn that elusive fifth star.

I was a little disappointed my 3 piece dark meat didn't come with a thigh but thats ok. The white cheddar grits were well cooked. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor but that might just be white cheddar. Hubs had the chicken BLT that had a great flavor from the chicken breading and other sauces. No one came to greet us for maybe five minutes, and I started to get nervous because there were only about five other occupied tables in the restaurant and I figured that servers would be pretty prompt. The person that served us turned out to be the bartender as the bar was right next to our table. This person did not offer us water, ask have you been here before, or any of the other pleasantries that all the other wait staff was telling to the other tables that we could hear. The other wait staff was telling people about the breakfast and their specials and the biscuits and everything and we got nothing. I don't know why we weren't seated somewhere with a server who didn't have to also deal with the bar, but our service was extremely slow and I am sure that is why. I ordered the lemonade and it was really delicious except that I would've liked to have had a water to drink as well. My husband ordered an iced coffee which he said was good but it was in a very tiny brandy type glass that could not have been more than 6 ounces. At five dollars for each of our drinks I would think that it could be maybe a little bigger. The person helping us never came back to talk about refills or having another drink or water or anything. We ordered the biscuits and I ordered a breakfast meal and my husband ordered the half of a chicken. I wanted my eggs over easy and they were almost hard. They were definitely not over easy; they were overcooked. Everything else was acceptable but not delicious. My husband's chicken was very juicy. He didn't get his salad until a few minutes after our entrées were delivered though. A different server brought the salad over to us and she said "ha ha found it" trying to make a joke, but it was like yeah we get it. You guys aren't very good at running food out. When it was time to pay, it took us asking for the bill to get it and then at least five minutes for it to be picked back up when we would've liked to have been on our way. The food was ordinary and the service was pretty bad. We won't be back again. Our breakfast was $50 plus $10 tip and parking and we can get much better service elsewhere for that same price.
