The room we still call the "garage" has actually been a dark, dingy, panelled space that my father and his friends put to excellent use as a "man cave" for years. When Pop became ill in 2012, the space became my living and work space. In addition to panelling, the room has 4 large windows where the garage door used to be , and the walls were insultated. After nearly 30 years, though, it was easily and by far the coldest space in our house, to the point where our heating bill was often awful. We desperately needed to make the space more livable. We found Lance Willis and Freelance Construction on Thumbtack, and I must say, we couldn't have made a better choice! From our very first meeting, Lance was both wholly professional and extremely personable. He was straightforward about what such a remodeling would likely cost, and didn't try to pretend he and his very busy crew could build Rome in a day, so to speak. Lance gave us a number of of possible options, from the simplest to the the more complex, and got back to us quickly with a estimates on everything. He was careful about explaining just what such a job would entail, and was open to communicating with us and making minor changes we requested during the job. When the work began, Lance's crew was just as unfailingly professional, personable and competent has Lance himself. Even though they were coming from some distance, they always showed up on time, explained to us what was likely to be happening that day, and worked a full day's work on behalf of getting what turned out to be a job with a few extra complications done as quickly as possible. The only complaint I had was that they were a little lax on the post-job clean up (admittedly, it was a quite a hectic day for all of us)--but Lance and company was VERY quick to rectify the few things that got missed. We've had other construction companies and crews do work for us over the years. Frankly, some of them have been nothing short of disastrous, both financially, and in terms of the work (not) done. We'd have Lance and his crew back any time--and will, when the chance presents itself, look to Freelance Construction first when we're ready to do the next job. I can't recommend Freelance Construction highly enough!

We were very happy with how they cared for our building and premises; they were very thorough, responsible, detail-oriented, responsive, and professional. If ever they came into our offices while we were still working, they were very friendly, respectful, and nonintrusive. They were also proactive: when they found soiled dishes on one of our desks at the end of the day, they took them away and dealt with them so that we wouldn't attract pests (this was specifically not in their contract or job description.) They did a great job for us, and we would highly recommend them to anyone seeking trustworthy folks to help them out.

Oops sorry!] I was putting my home up for sale and needed a few small repairs before the home inspection. Well, I totally got my dates mixed up and it turned out that I only had two days to make these fixes (otherwise they'd be marked on the inspection report, which we didn't want! I ended up calling Diablo Valley handyman as they were recommended to me by a neighbor. I called first thing in the morning, and I believe I spoke with the actual owner (James.) I told him my situation and even though it sounded like he had a pretty full schedule, he was able to have somebody up the very next day to not only assess everything, but actually make the repairs! We needed to have a fence repaired , a new staircase hand-railing put up, some minor trim fixes around our windows. And then quite a few window screens needed replacing. (We have cats, lol) The fact that they were able to come out on such short notice, make all the repairs in one day, plus the guys that showed up to do the work were warm and friendly! After all of this, I absolutely expected to pay a high premium, however, the invoice came back for a more than reasonable amount! (It was a bit higher than the original estimate over the phone, but that was our fault because we forgot to tell them about the window screens!) Getting ready to sell a house is maddening and so stressful. Do Diablo Valley handyman was one of the only aspects that put us at ease during this entire process! Unfortunately, we moved quite a bit further away so we fall out of these guys' service zone now, but that's part of the reason why I wanted to make sure I wrote this review.... because I never forgot the awesome service we received!
