I visited McColl Park in Uptown Charlotte early in the morning, and although the chairs and tables hadn't been set out yet, I could already see the potential. The air was cold, but the space felt inviting. It's a compact plaza at the intersection of Trade and Tryon, thoughtfully designed to honor Charlotte's civic legacy while offering a flexible place for people to gather.
Even without the usual bustle, the park's blend of public art, historical interpretation, and sculptural elements stood out. There's a dedication wall and features that reflect both Indigenous and Revolutionary history. I appreciated how accessible it felt, whether you're walking, riding the light rail, or hopping off the streetcar. Once the sun warms the space and the furniture is in place, I can easily imagine it becoming a favorite spot for lunch breaks, casual meetups, and quiet reflection right in the heart of the city.
