McCleery is a beautiful course on the banks of the Fraser River, designed by Canadian architect Ted Baker and established in 1959. This 6265 yards, par 71, 18-hole course is one of the nicest public courses in Vancouver, sister to Langara Golf Course and Fraserview Golf Course. It features gently sloping fairways, sprinkled with pretty water hazards. With mature trees framing each narrow fairway, golfers are required to focus the shots in a more meticulous manner. A beginner like me could only count my beginner's luck for my ball to find its way. The most enjoyable part was the abundance of wild lives present. My heart leaped up with the green was surrounded by the goose (tried not to let the poops bug me) and when a baby coyote peaked its curious head out from the bushes. This is an escape from the bustling city. Cheerios~

This is a very beautiful golf course. The fairways have some character, with just the right amount of sand and water. McCleery would be an excellent course to play in the autumn if you enjoy golfing with brilliant fall colors. The course Marshall was really on his toes and kept everyone playing to speed, but did so in a very nice manner. The price for 18 holes and cart rental came to just over $60 per person. Didn't try the restaurant this time out, but I'm sure I'll be back.

Coming to Vancouver to experience the city and golf, we knew we had to try out one of the various…read morepitch and putt courses, and this one was a lot of fun. What's cool about this spot is that is a low risk way to try out some golf. The longest hole is 100 yards, with most being 75 or less. There were a ton of beginners and first timers playing so it's definitely not a place where pace of play is a priority. There's no tee time required, just walk up and get in line on the first tee. For Americans, the cost for 2 people to play was around $19 for $18 holes. Every tee box has a mat that you hit off of to start reach hole. The greens aren't great, so not the best place to practice putting. When we visited, there were single golfers, groups of 8, and everything in between. Most people dropped off after 9 holes, so we played the second 9 pretty quick. Overall, it's a fun course to get some swings in and have some beers on the course. Not the best to practice putting but a great spot to practice wedges. Don't know if I'd play again but I had a really good time regardless.

There are some geese around that might get aggressive, so be careful. You can borrow golf clubs from the staff, and they also sell refreshments.

Well, unless another wedding invite graces my mail box, there's no way I could get in. To get on the waiting list for membership is $25k on it's own. Plus, I don't wear my pants up at my armpits or take dinner before 5pm. The view is gorgeous. You can see the Grouse Grind and Vancouver from the expansive patio that faces the course. The greens look like they're kept in immaculate form. (I wonder if there's a wee little garden gnome out there in the early morning hours grooming them with a pair of shears! What else would they do with all those annual dues?) The staff is friendly, professional and on top of their game. They were awesome about bringing vegetarian dishes to the lone vegetarian at our table and kept the drinks coming! The food was decent. It's exactly what you'd expect at a golf course, although, as I mentioned, I was there for a wedding, so we possibly were privy to an exclusive menu - Shrimp Cocktail? Lobster thermidor? Dim sum dumplings as appetizers? Don't mind if I do!
