Since it was my birthday, I knew I wanted to get at least a beer - my friend and I ended up staying for four drinks heh. One of them was a Sex on the Beach since it was advertised as a special drink of the night. It was good! Not too stiff, not too sweet. Overall, the pub had a cozy, laid back vibe that was the perfect spot to chit chat and enjoy a drink. It seemed small on the outside but was actually quite roomy with a small patio in the back. If you want to give this place a try definitely do so!!

My burger lacked flavor though and was a little tough which was disappointing. They did say that the burgers cook on their own trays so hopefully cross contamination is mitigated. The Eton Mess was phenomenal though and redeemed the meal. Service was fine, they were very busy with the rugby game so the delay in things made sense. Ambiance was great with a table next to the roaring fire.

During our entire stay, as my friends had joined about 10 minutes after I was seated and had already ordered drinks, the employee just kept throwing glances and staring at us the entire time. We were all ordering, so it wasn't like we were holding a table hostage. We did get good service from the waiter, although he didn't come around as often, even when we were out of drinks. Kudos to the whisky sommelier for giving us great suggestions. It's a quirky bar/restaurant, but I'm not sure it would be worth a return trip. The employee with the attitude was really unnerving.

Finally, the musicians invited about six members of the audience to learn how to play the bodhrán. Overall the music quality was excellent. The food was also satisfying. I had the chicken and chorizo pie which came with a small side salad dressed in honey mustard and a small portion of roasted potatoes. My friends really enjoyed the pork ribs. The waitress was awesome she split the bill for our entire group!

Lovely Local Lagerhouse!…read more As a student, I tend to eat, drink, and essentially live quite frugally. While exploring the city of Cork during my first week in the country, my friends and I popped into close-by Preachers, whose outdoor boards boast of 3 euro daily pint deals. My night was made complete when I realized they serve Hoegaarden - one of my favorite intoxicants! Furthermore, they offer it in full pint glasses, a feature that I had yet to experience the wonders of. My friends and I had a great time sitting and standing by the bar, although after further visits, I've noticed that the place can get a bit too crowded. However, the regular bartenders are wonderful to chat with, and close quarters can always make for new and unexpected friends! Essentially, Preachers is a fantastic bar - great beers on tap, rockin' music, and good company!

We came across a few students of UCC, standing outside this small bar, Preachers. So a conversation was started, and as is the usual Irish custom....we were invited to share a pint or two over the talk. Into Preachers we went. If you are claustrophobic, you don't want to visit Preachers. It will be packed (this was a Wednesday night). But as for the students and the bar? It was GREAT! The Guinness was flowing, and so we had a few (we each had to buy a round of course). I'll have to admit, I normally don't do things like what happened here, and maybe it was the beer talking, but it was a whole lot of fun meeting those 5 students from UCC and talking. I'm not sure how much the drinks cost, because my co-worker "bought" my round....so I never paid for any of the 5 beers we had each. I'd have to guess it was around 3-4 Euro per. If you're in Cork, stop by Preachers for a pint. It's full of locals and the best way to travel is "being a local".
