Dr. McCarthy is awesome for his care. His office though, a total joke. No matter what time of day you call they are on lunch. Their lunches rotate every day based on patients. I tried call 3 days in a row at 3 different times... on lunch says other doctors receptionist. Then when you do get a hold of the scheduler..... total female dog attitude. Only takes appointments one month out so if you need to plan accordingly, this spot isn't for you. I called today (3/15) and not taking appointments past April. So now I have to call back April 1st to get an appointment for first week in May. Everything you have read on this post and the others is true. Hello my names Ryan. I went to Dr McCarthy back when I was a junior in high school. Christmas break he performed nose surgery on me for a deviated septum as well as a rhinoplasty to chisel down my little hump and the results were horrible. My friend and mother came with me to get the bandages removed the day after Christmas and the room was silent lol. Dr. McCarthy then said to press down on my nose with both of my thumbs because cartilage is week after surgery and therefore will shape the nose because it looked like the Rocky Mountains and boy did it sure shape the nose. Not only was it painful to press down on my nose immediately after surgery but the shape now looks like two horns sticking out. On the bright side I have to crevices for my sunglasses to rest on haha. Anyways, I went back to school got made fun of a bit not much and my parents felt guilty cause I was a minor and we should have gone to a professional plastic surgeon blah blah blah. I'm just writing this cause it's the beginning of 2019 and I want to let go of the past but before I can do that it's my obligation to warn anyone before they do any surgery with him especially on the face. Also, I went back to him about a year ago when I was 25 to see if my insurance will cover a second surgery and since he fixed the deviated septum or so he says..insurance will no long cover it because it is strictly cosmetic now. By the way I would never let him touch my nose again I just went back to see if he remembers what the hell happened under the knife. Also, never wait as long as I did I was young embarrassed because I literally paid for a worse nose and moved away for college then moved back as a adult and now wanted some answers. I had been there many years ago and yes I will say that the wait times were extremely ridiculous... Seems like nothing has changed. I just called today to make an appointment and after being put on hold for a ridiculous long time, the receptionist came back on the phone to say that they are not scheduling until November... Which is fine, however I had to call back next week to schedule appointment. She would not to let let me make the appointment then in there... ?!!? Good physician. However, my husband has been going to Dr. McCarthy for several years. EVERY visit, he waits at LEAST 1 hour! He just left his 4:15 appt. tonight at 6:00! ENOUGH! I cannot express how disappointed I am by the unprofessionalism of Dr. McCarthy and his office staff, displayed today on July 2, 2019. For several months since my initial visit in March, the doctor and his team strung me along and would not help me with my chronic upper respiratory infections, continuously claiming that they were waiting for my PPO health insurance company's authorization for a simple CT scan. I later found out that the doctor and his staff had not submitted the requested documents that my insurance company had required. In the meantime, the doctor wasn't available to even see me for a follow up visit, which resulted in me having to go to urgent care repeatedly to treat my reoccurring ear infections, vertigo, and sinusitis. The office staff had promised that the doctor would see me early July and would submit the necessary documents for me to schedule a CT scan; however, when I came in finally on my scheduled appointment on July 2, the office staff told me that Dr. McCarthy recently dropped my PPO insurance. I asked why I had not been notified prior to me coming in, and the office rep said that Dr. McCarthy had just dropped the insurance a couple of weeks prior, but if I would like, I could pay out of pocket for the day's visit, anywhere between $75 and $150! I course declined, and now, after waiting patiently several months to meet with this doctor, I have the task of finding a new ENT. Yes, it can take some time to get and appointment, and you may wait a while for your turn at his office....BUT it is worth the wait. He really takes a long time with his patients. I have seen him a number of times. He even tries to work with my primary, evaluates areas of my health that may not be his ENT specialty, realizing that all my health conditions are in this one body :-) I think he is an amazing doctor. read more

I called to get my mother an appointment on April 13 based on a referral from her primary care physician. I was told the first available appointment is in June. I understand that. However, apparently the appointment calendar wasn't available or the receptionist was unable to book an appointment six weeks out, so I was told to call back in two or three weeks. I find this unacceptable and unprofessional. read more

Okay, I had to wait 90 minutes past my appointment time, before being taken from the waiting room to an exam room. Then another 10 minutes in the exam room waiting for the Doctor. Front desk staff really had nothing to say to me when I complained about the excessive wait. In fact, it seemed as if my quiet questioning simply was an irritation. Obviously they've either grown used to people like me, or they simply don't care. So, the Doc finally comes in. He is super friendly, takes tons of time with me, answers my questions and is very thorough. I really really want to be mad at him for making me wait, but his medical care (which is why I'm there in the first place, after all) is so good that I cannot be. Dang. At end of appointment I tell him about my excessive wait. And he replies, very calmly and honestly - "Get used to it, it is going to get worse and worse and worse." I say, 'because of Obamacare?' And he nods affirmatively. Now I can't be mad at him. Double dang. That being said, I still think that his office could do a better job of scheduling, and based upon other reviews here on yelp, I'm not the only one who feels this way. The worst front desk attitude I have ever seen. Dr McCarthy' s front desk girl is so rude and uncaring. As I sat in waiting room for my husband I heard her be extremely rude to a woman who drove from Big Bear. Apparently the same girl set her appointment with the wrong doctor and was not able to accommodate her which is one thing but her lack of compassion and rudeness was appalling. The women left after talking to manager with no appointment. Then after waiting 90 minutes for my husbands appointment my husband asked her how much longer to see the doctor and she starts scolding him. We left without seeing the doctor. Was trying to make an appointment for my first visit. I spoke to "Veronica" she gave me August 23, 2018 then right when I wanted to say "Yes for that date" she puts me on hold with me still talking on the phone. Right when she gets back on the phone she tells me next available is "August 28"! Excuse me..what happen to August 23?!?! Veronica said "Another person took it". Today is the one year anniversary of having my tonsils and adnoids removed and I have to say it was the best recommendation I have ever taken. I had been having chronic swollen to tonsils since I was kid and finally my normal doctor sent me to see Dr. McCarthy. After doing my research, I knew that as an adult I would have a much longer and painful healing process than I would if I was a kid. Dr. McCarthy and his team made sure I was mentally prepared and made suggestions on how to make everything as seamless as possible. Dana was very sweet and took all of my after surgery phone calls, even though some of them were silly. Did it take forever to get a doctor's appointment? Sure. Even longer to get a surgery date? Dr McCarthy lanced my ear drum assuming there was fluid in my eustachian tube causing the popping noise I was experiencing. I've had 70% hearing loss in my right ear ever since. He never told me the scar tissue would cause hearing loss. This man needs to retire. read more

Even though I live 50+ miles away, I visited Dr. McCarthy for a second opinion on an Otosclerosis diagnosis. He is my parents ENT in my hometown. The hearing test done by the staff was easy and he really took his time talking with me. In no way did I feel rushed. It took forever to schedule, they dis a thorough examination, and prescribed antibiotics, less than a week later while on antibiotics, everything came back, cough, difficulty breathing etc. when I called back said didn't have anything. Ive been eagerly waiting to see the Dr to see what has been causing all my pain since it took them forever just to get me in. My appointment was at 4:15 today and I just literally just got out of the office and its now 6:38pm. I waited more than two hours to be seen and the whole appointment took a Lil under 5 minutes. Worse experience at a "specialist" office ever. Not to mention the fact that they wanted to charge me a $40 copay when in reality its $10. Serious? The Dr wasn't bad but not what I expected. I refuse to go there again its ridiculous how long they take and how unprofessional they can be. The ONLY bright side of this mayhem was the receptionist that was really nice and professional. Dr. McCarthy recommended a turbinate reduction and deviated septum surgery to fix my problem breathing through my nose and from start to finish his care was outstanding. He took the time to put me at ease about the surgery, explained everything in detail, and I can breathe clearly now, which is an amazing feeling. I was debating on writing a review but I feel most of you should be aware and GO elsewhere. Making the appointment was a month out, which was ok since I had other busy days. Arrived to the office, signed in and waited over 45 minutes to be taken back..I asked several times the receptionist as to why the wait???No clear answer was given....I decided I'd wait since I had already asked for the afternoon off from work. When the DR came in, he took his time with me and explained everything in detail. He stated he would call me back when he received my blood work. A month had passed and no call. I decided to call and find out what was going on. No one was able to figure out where my blood work was at or give me an answer. I asked to speak to the office manager in which I was told to leave a message. Long story short, the office manager never called...never got an answer as to what I was allergic to... Take your business elsewhere!!!!Staff is incompetent and is clueless to customer service. What a shame, DR is genuinely good but I will never return.. read more

Although Dr. Stuart McCarthy has an awesome bedside manner, easy to talk to etc....he desperately needs to find and employ a good Office Manager and a Nurse that isn't rude ("snarky" was the word used by the Imaging Center that was trying to help me...the order was missing info). He made an honest mistake, but with a 2 hour lunch break and 3 phone calls to them afterwards, I finally received my x-ray 4 hours later. I went back to Dr. McCarthy's office to complain NOT about the mistake but the rude experiences on the phone between the Nurse (or MA?) and the Imaging Center. I was given a hand on the hip and excuses not apologies. Worst patient service ever.... The 2nd order Dr. McCarthy gave me was for a throat scan with contrast which I had done almost 2 weeks ago. I just called to let them know that I hadn't received a phone call with results or follow-up appointment. I was told that they wouldn't make a follow-up appointment unless something was found. I asked how would I know that since I hadn't received results? How do I even know he looked at the results? SOOOOO....do I just let an almost 2 year chronic cough go? Dr. Stuart was the first ENT that I was referred to for chronic tonsillitis. I called to make an appointment with him and was told that the first opening would be in a month. I was fine with that because I know that getting quality healthcare can take some time. When I arrived at the office, I waited for over an hour to see the doctor and I was fine with that too. As long as someone was going to stop the pain that I had been feeling in my throat for years. When I saw him he told me to gargle and call back the next day to schedule an appointment for surgery with his nurse Dana. I called, and they told me to call back the next day. So I did. And then they told me that she would call me back. So when a week went by I called again and politely asked for Dana when I was told that she was busy and that I was not forgotten and that she would call me when she could. This cycle repeated for four weeks until I finally went back to my primary care doctor to get a new referral since my tonsillitis had gotten so bad that my throat was then closing. It has now been over three months and I still have not gotten a call from the office to schedule my appointment even though I have called many times. This was by far the worst medical service that I have ever received. read more

My husband was referred to Dr. McCarthy by our primary care physician. My husband had been experienced severe pain for quite a while. We needed to know if his sinuses were causing the problem or it was the nerves around the tooth. Dr. McCarthy requested film from our dentist which we hand delivered. We were given a phone number to call if we hadn't heard anything about what my husband's test results were. We never got any response from the office. My husband called and no one answers the phone. We left messages on their answering machine to DANA who gave my husband a paper with her name and phone number to call in the event we did not receive results or heard from this office within a week. No response. This is irresponsible conduct on behalf of the office staff or maybe even the doctor. I have since reported their conduct to my insurance company and changed doctors. We are lucky enough to be able to change doctors without worrying about the network. I would never refer this office to anyone under any circumstances. read more
