Even though many cafes…read morein the town were packed, the proprietors decided on a Take away only service, which we thought was prudent, appropriate and socially responsible in light of prevailing conditions. This Take away service was not at the expense of the planet as they readily accepted our reusable cups for our Take away order. The icing on the cake was that the variety of coffee had a lovely nutty tinge. All I can say is exemplary.

They seemed to be doing a brisk trade in brunches, with the cook busy flipping eggs and bacon on his grill. The place has a nice atmosphere and obviously does a good trade. What we did find off-putting was the lack of suitable ventilation in the kitchen. There was a thin haze of greasy smoke throughout the seating area and we could smell the fried food on our clothes when we left This wouldn't normally put me off, but She Who Must Be Obeyed definitely wouldn't go back. I would definately recommend Cafe Cou Cou. I always take friends who are visiting from out of town and they love it.

Same goes for their cups; they look like they came straight out of a charity shop. Cute, but a bit kitsch. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It was full up whilst we were there, and a bit loud. Many tables had children. As for our drinks, my mocha was good but ordinary. Not particularly hot, but drinkable. My husband's hot chocolate was a bit too cool for him; he wasn't very happy. We will likely be back to try their food, but might stick with tea.
