The hookah is very good & strong and honestly gave me a bit of a head rush (i like that). I got the beef kebab and it was so tender and flavorful! I got half saffron rice and spicy rice and that was the way to go. My appetizer was alright, it was a bit too tangy/yogurty for me but that just feels like it was a me problem. This was the best food of my life. If you ever want a taste of Middle East in Atlanta, this is the place to go. I went with my Jordanian and Egyptian friends, and they even said that this was the most authentic to Home. We ordered a variety of appetizers and the best one was grape leaves. You have to order this! The best thing to drink was the lemon mint, it tasted like frozen lemonade with mint, so it was extremely refreshing. Lastly, we got the Nutella crêpe dessert and the attention to detail was insane. They mixed white chocolate, dark chocolate and Nutella. They also gave us a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The food is delicious! 10/10 the mint lemonade is to die for. I pretty much tried half the appetizer menu when I went. Everything was delicious! Hummus, baba ganoush, falafels, sambousa, tabouleh. The only thing that was not the best were the stuffed grape leaves. I always get the kofta and it does not disappoint. Unfortunately service is not the best. Last time I went I had to wait about 20 minutes to get my check after the plates had been cleared and it wasn't even my server that noticed someone else saw that I had been waiting. I saw there was a chicken shawarma side so I ordered it to go. I specifically told the server I only want it if it's one wrap if it's just the chicken I don't want it. He said okay I'll double check and only put it in if it's a wrap. I got home excited for my chicken shawarma wrap only to be disappointed because it was just the chicken. But food is 10/10. This place is open till midnight on the weekday. I believe last call for food is 11 PM. We just had dinner and needed a place to hang out. I found this place and decided to give it a try. We didn't know it was a hookah bar. Even though we were not going to smoke, we liked the fact that the place was large enough that we couldn't smell the smoke anyway. It is very new and clean looking. The staff was very nice and friendly. We just came in there for drinks and they were very accommodating even though we didn't order much. That was a very nice experience, and the food was outstanding. Our meal started with some mint tea and a hummus appetizer. The mint tea was outstanding, and I like it that they had packet of sugar at the table for those of us who desired it. Topped with beef shawarma, the hummus was a total crowd pleaser. The pita was perfect. I want to say it was freshly made, but it may have been steamed. Either way, it was delicious. I could have eaten this by myself for dinner. My friends each got the chicken shawerma and the beef shawerma entrees. They looked delicious. I will be ordering one of these the next time I visit. Wait-staff here took excellent care of us, checking on us frequently. Foods were presented to the table hot and fresh, and sometimes with a small flourish. There is some real culinary artistry going on in that kitchen. The restaurant itself is a largish-space, with plenty of couches/sofas for lounging with your hookah and your meal, and plenty of tables that can be arranged to accommodate groups of all sizes. We arrived early, which I think was the right thing to do. As the evening progressed, the tables filled up with a variety of Middle Eastern clientele, and we were perhaps the only table that was not partaking of a hookah setup. There was LOTS of hookah action going on. Folks everywhere were celebrating, or relaxing, or just having a good time with each other. It was a good scene. What a gem! Husband and I wanted something healthy after an evening out and came across Mazaj on the way home and fell in love. The restaurant is in a plaza so there's ample free parking. Inside the restaurant is very spacious with either table seating or sectioned booths. We were seated at a table. We loved the authentic vibe of the middle eastern music & cuisine. Our waitress was very nice and gave us wonderful recommendations. We first ordered a Greek salad with mushrooms which was phenomenal. Along with a mint lemonade that was extremely fresh and potent in flavor. For entrees we had the chicken shawerma and beef shawerma that came with sides of rice. Both entrees were well seasoned and light. The portions were large so we had a good portion of leftovers to take home. The restaurant also had hookah available but we did not try that night. I'm not sure what happened here but this place used to be good. I noticed recently a lot of people that used to work here a few weeks ago are all gone. Management I don't think really knows how to run a restaurant. Our server last night was beyond rude. Food was terrible and it used to be our go to spot. Don't think we will be returning here. Mazaj has easily turned into one of my favorite lounges / Mediterranean restaurants in Atlanta. I will also say that their Fatoush salad is the best I have ever had. The first time I visited was around the time they had opened. Service was a little slow, and I was a bit disappointed as their food was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful. Since that first visit, I have gone back several times and my experience has been more than better. I have brought my friends and family from out of town here, and all have agreed at this being one of the best Mediterranean / Arab spots in the city. I recommend getting the fatoush salad. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The service was painfully slow, but the real issue was the manager's blatant dishonesty. We asked for a specific table, and she told us it was reserved. Right after saying that, she put a "reserved" sign on it. clearly just to keep us from sitting there. A few minutes later, a new customer walked in, and we overheard her say, "Would you like this seat or this one?" while pointing at the very table we originally wanted. The way they handle customers is beyond unprofessional. If you like being lied to and waiting forever for service, this is your place. Waiter was nice, food was good. Only a few issues to be aware of.... The kids menu "chicken tenders grilled or fried with fries $12" we specified grilled, my toddler got the chicken. She ate it, honestly it was good. Got the bill, charged $18 for it. Brought it up to the waiter. We were told that the fried tenders are $12 but the grilled is $18, not mentioned when we ordered. I got the chicken shawarma ENTREE that was $18 and it had more chicken than her plate. My wife got a side order of grilled chicken which was $8, and it was 4 nice sized pieces, an order of fries is $5...so I'm not really sure where the $18 comes from for a kids item on the menu. My wife, ordered the fattoush salad, she was craving pomegranate seeds, I don't know, she's pregnant she can have what she wants. She got the salad, there were no pomegranate seeds on it. Was told by the waiter if we want that we need to ask because they stopped putting it on the salad because SOME people started not liking them, mind you there are 4 other delicious looking salads on the menu. Really hate being the "can I talk to the manager type" and plus our daughter was at her limit so we left before the manager came out. We ordered to go, so that may have affected our experience to a degree, but the flavors were just off to me. We ordered the hummus to start, and I hate to say this and don't want to be mean, but it was one of the worst hummus's I have had. It just lacked so much in flavor. My main was chicken schwarma. It may have been prepared differently than I'm used to, but it had this sweetness in the flavor profile that just didn't match up with the rest of the dish. That's the best way I can explain it. My friend and I were looking for a place to eat, and being new to the area I reached out to one of my other friends for recommendations of places where I could take him. This restaurant was on his list of places. I pulled into the parking lot, I could tell the quality of the place by the customers walking in. As I entered the restaurant, I felt the ambiance was something special. On top of that, it was clean and modern. Patrons were enjoying themselves, it felt like everybody was on the same wavelength. The seating was spread out and the place didn't feel congested. The seats were cozy and well-maintained. We got there on a Monday night, I ordered the Shish Taouk and some Mint Tea. The chicken was fresh and juicy, and the onions and vegetables were grilled to perfection, all complemented by a generous amount of saffron rice. As you can see from the pictures, I didn't waste a single bite. The Mint Tea tasted like I was back overseas, authentic enough to make me feel nostalgic. After the meal, we ordered the Lemon-Mint Hookah and some Red Bull. We stayed an extra hour talking about our past and future. Another friend had joined us and that night had become a memorable time for all of us. The service truly makes this place stand out amongst others. Our waiter, Abdel Jawad, frequently visited our table and asked us if we needed anything. Once we got our hook he just let us hang out, and never felt rushed to finish and pay. Dined here for the first time this past weekend. We sat outside for dinner since the weather was beautiful. The patio was completely shaded, had several tables available, and was private. Although nice, some flowers/plants would have added to the atmosphere. They also have a variety of seating options indoors - traditional tables and lounge areas. The falafel was crisp and tasty with lots of coriander. The baba ghanoush was smokey and delicious. The half grilled chicken was the best dish we ordered. It was delicious and cooked to perfection. Wish we would have ordered it with the saffron rice instead of fries. The chicken shawarma was disappointing as it lacked flavor and was not traditionally cooked on a spit. Walking in you can see the effort put into this place to make it the go to spot--place was clean and well taken care of filled with tables and chairs and a nice amount of couches for people to sit on and smoke hookah--we went around 5pm, restaurant had a few guest at the moment but came in with a craving for kibbeh. Not many places offer kibbeh so I was excited to check this place out. Service was mediocre, server seemed annoyed that we weren't ready to order right away. It was our first time there so I needed a minute to make wise choices since the menu indeed did look appetizing. Sad part is we barely made it through our apps before asking for the bill(once we finally got the servers attention--since he ignored us for almost our whole dining experience) but ignoring that fact we didn't order more than appetizers because the food was bland, lacking in the herbaceous cuisine food was flat out disappointing-which truly was a shame since I would have love to have made this place a go to since they are open late. But the tasteless food left a bad taste in our mouths of pure disappointment. After appetizers we ask for the check cause we didn't want to risk eating anything else. The sambusas were quite tasty but it's hard to mess up stuffing cheese in a puff pastry. Kibbeh was dry and bland with no seasonings and had to squeeze lemon on it to help us swallow it down for how dry it was. The labneh was underwhelming we asked for extra herbs to bring it to life. And dolmades--were interesting to say the least. Lovely. That's the best adjective to describe this place! We can where for our friend's birthday. She has dietary restrictions, but she's able to eat most of what's on the menu here. I'm vegan predominantly, so I was curious of their falafel. I've always had terrible experiences with falafel, so I was certainly skeptical of the wrap option, but! When I tried the appetizer OMG!! I have never and I mean NEVER tasted anything so good. That confirmed I needed to get the wrap. It was so delicious. And then the hummus was yummy and the fries were crisp and yummy. I wish I can give 0 point for the service we have received up on arrival on Saturday Night for dinner. The host was unorganized and dismissive. We waited about 7 min for her to acknowledge our presence. She then told us to have a sit because of the wait. After 15 minutes she came back to tell us that there is only 2 people in front of us before we can be sat and she also mentioned that she will update us with the wait time.
