Bit of a tricky one to review, this, as a two star rating feels really harsh on some of the medical…read moreprofessionals that work here. Dr Geraghty, Dr Power, the practice nurse Liz, and the health visitor team here, at this satellite surgery of the larger Kirkstall Health Centre, are just superb. They are knowledgable, friendly, helpful, and generally brilliant ambassadors for our beloved NHS. What lets the practice down are: 1) some of the other doctors at the practice (upon taking our son to see a doctor on one occasion, one doctor asked Mr MacDoo 'well what do *you* think is wrong with him?' Ermmmm hello?!!!) 2) the receptionists' poor levels of customer service, and general 'gatekeeper' approach to allocating appointments. When I ring for an appointment I should NOT be expected to disclose what's wrong with me. I should NOT be asked 'is it an emergency?' Erm, no, if it was a medical emergency, I'd be heading to A&E, not my GP. But you know if you *say* no, you won't get an appointment. When I ring up for an appointment for my child, I should NOT be asked what's wrong with him, then have the receptionist make a diagnosis 'its probably just a virus' and advise to 'just give him some calpol' over the phone. 3) the frankly disgusting levels of cleanliness in the toilets. There is never any soap at the sink. There is rarely any toilet roll. There are no hand drying facilities. At a doctors surgery more than anywhere else, you want to be able to maintain good levels of hygiene when you visit the facilities. Not good. 4) the appointment allocation system is a nightmare. Appointments for the day are released at 8am on the dot, so you have to sit there constantly redialing and getting the engaged tone, desperately hoping that you're one of the lucky ones that gets through while there are still slots left. And that you pass the 'worthiness' test of the receptionist (see 2) So in summary, a super medical team in a sub-standard environment.

I have only just discovered this site, but my story is unforgettable and is still worth telling…read more Nearly 2 years ago, I visited Advance Dental Care as an NHS patient. My gums were bleeding profusely on a daily basis, and I could hardly chew even soft food. In addition, I had lost a filling. I desperately needed dental treatment. The waiting in the reception was horrendous. At lunchtime, the receptionists just disappeared leaving no one to see to the phone or to patients. The practice still used brown envelopes for patient records, and computers seemed to be used only for making appointments. It felt like they were 20-25 years behind in terms of technology.[The reception area was also very small and uninviting] As for the treatment, I was on the edge of my seat throughout. After treatment, I kept spitting lead bits for hours. And when the filling was done, it felt like it was sticking out sharp and uncomfortable [I had to use a fine file to smooth it out myself at home, clearly a botched up job!] The treatment was stretched over 6-7 visits (as far as I can remember), without a doubt totally unnecessarily. The dentist also kept forgetting that I was an NHS patient, repeatedly quoting prices for each part of the treatment for me. I kept apologising for being an NHS patient. I felt like crap, and was treated no better. The worst thing about it all is the dentist's verdict when she saw the X-rays. She advised that I should have 8 teeth out ! To cut the story short, after the shock, I sought a second opinion, and guess what? I did NOT have to lose a single tooth!! The dentist who saved my teeth (on NHS) gave my teeth a thorough cleaning, plus a 10day treatment of antibiotics. That's all it took. Now, 2 years on, my teeth are all sill there as healthy as they can be, and no gum bleeding whatsoever. That's my story. I stand by every word in it.

For all the standard prescriptions and last minute unexpected items that you need, such as cold and flu remedies, plasters, pregnancy tests, hair products, skin care items - and you know the rest. It's awesome little chemists like this that bring back childhood nostalgia for me. I don't see those novelty children's bubble bath any where else except these kinds of little chemists! I'm not sure the reminder of childhood nasty medicine is a great thing, but the good service and wide range of handy quality products certainly is good!

I came here to get a prescription and some cough medicine and even though the chemist was pretty packed - I was served quickly, politely and efficiently. The only downside to this place is that it never seems to be open! I don't know if I was dropping by on the wrong times before but the doors seemed on lock down for a while. This chemist is really close to my house so it's ideal for me to get to - I only wished they were open a little more often. Or that I got ill less often..!
