Bit of a tricky one to review, this, as a two star rating feels really harsh on some of the medical professionals that work here. Dr Geraghty, Dr Power, the practice nurse Liz, and the health visitor team here, at this satellite surgery of the larger Kirkstall Health Centre, are just superb. They are knowledgable, friendly, helpful, and generally brilliant ambassadors for our beloved NHS.
What lets the practice down are:
1) some of the other doctors at the practice (upon taking our son to see a doctor on one occasion, one doctor asked Mr MacDoo 'well what do *you* think is wrong with him?' Ermmmm hello?!!!)
2) the receptionists' poor levels of customer service, and general 'gatekeeper' approach to allocating appointments. When I ring for an appointment I should NOT be expected to disclose what's wrong with me. I should NOT be asked 'is it an emergency?' Erm, no, if it was a medical emergency, I'd be heading to A&E, not my GP. But you know if you *say* no, you won't get an appointment. When I ring up for an appointment for my child, I should NOT be asked what's wrong with him, then have the receptionist make a diagnosis 'its probably just a virus' and advise to 'just give him some calpol' over the phone.
3) the frankly disgusting levels of cleanliness in the toilets. There is never any soap at the sink. There is rarely any toilet roll. There are no hand drying facilities. At a doctors surgery more than anywhere else, you want to be able to maintain good levels of hygiene when you visit the facilities. Not good.
4) the appointment allocation system is a nightmare. Appointments for the day are released at 8am on the dot, so you have to sit there constantly redialing and getting the engaged tone, desperately hoping that you're one of the lucky ones that gets through while there are still slots left. And that you pass the 'worthiness' test of the receptionist (see 2)
So in summary, a super medical team in a sub-standard environment. read more
