Have you ever had a scam artist come to your house and you let them in to run a con on you? Maybe a mugger came by and you invited him in to steal whatever you had lying around? This is how I feel about Dan Maybruck Plumbing. The very worst plumber you could possibly call in the Plymouth area. The WORST. THE WORST. Not just the work they did, but the way they destroyed my home to make me pay to repair it..
I was replacing the kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities in my house, and needed the water turned off in the morning for the installation and turned back on at the end of the day. Should be simple. Not.
I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and called Dan Maybruck simply because I couldn't find a plumber locally with any review, let alone a good one, and they're close by where I live. The phone minion quoted me a price of $325 for two service calls to turn the water off and back on and install 3 faucets. Yikes.
I explained exactly what I needed to the plumber who arrived -late. The countertop installers stood around, waiting for him to get to work on the water shutoff. The installers wanted me out of the way, so I took off to go to the dr., with my mobile number prominently displayed on the refrigerator in case of emergency.
Four hours later, I came home to finished countertops and disaster in my house. Under the kitchen sink, the garbage disposal was gone. Ripped out and the countertop guys said the plumber dropped it in my garage trash on his way out that morning after turning off the water. Under three bathroom vanities, three trashed pipes dripping one inch deep puddles of water. I called Maybruck Plumbing in a panic, described the situation and they sent the same plumber back, plus a couple of backups to "look over the situation".
At this point they began two hours of deny, deny, deny of all responsibility.
I was in tears while they explained how it "must have been the countertop guys" blah blah blah. Meanwhile, backup guy#3 totals up a $2000 bill to repair the damage (that they caused) and puts on a one-act play pretending to call "Dan Maybruck himself" but so surprisingly not getting him on his cell.
Two hours later, these three crooks had torn my bathrooms up a little more, insisted the original guy did nothing wrong and refused to do ANYTHING to put it right unless I paid. Now.Pay now. Pay now. Pay now. Hard court press, three guys standing around me while I cried.
They wanted immediate payment for the garbage disposal to replace my perfectly fine one, repair the dripping pipes in the bathrooms and kitchen. They put on quite a show. I think I was in an altered state of consciousness because all I did was cry quietly and wait for them to stop talking and telling me to give them money.
I needed my water turned on, because I had a family dinner for 20 people the next day. They refused to do anything until I paid. Pay. Pay. Pay.I finally wrote a check for $1000 and paid for a garbage disposal that I never asked for, I paid for a half-assed repair job to one bathroom and the kitchen so at least there was one working bathroom and I could use my kitchen.' Looking back, why I didn't call the police at that point? I can only attribute it to my low state of mind. I was going through an intense personal crisis that day, my capacity to deal with dripping pipes was gone and I just wanted these awful men out of my house and the water turned on so i could live in the house.
i ended up with 3 bathroom sinks that couldn't be stoppered because the jiggly things didn't work, gaping holes in the drywall under the 3 vanities, a garbage disposal that's louder and not as smooth as the one I had, and the knowledge that yes, as hard as I try to look out for myself and not get taken there comes a time when the perfect storm of difficult circumstances combines with the worst plumbers in the world and I got ripped off and then some!
The counter top guys told me later that the original thief told them that I'd probably be "really mad" when I came home and that I'd "try to get some money out of them" (Maybruck). Shame on me for letting them walk all over me ( not like me at all) but everyone has a off day once in a blue moon. I didn't try to get money out of them, but I finally raised holy hell when THEY SENT ME A BILL for an additional $900 dollars for the repair work TO FIX THE TRASH JOB THAT THEY CAUSED.
I guess that's how Dan Maybruck builds business - create a problem where none exists, and someone else pays through the nose for it.
I did find another plumber (through my flooring guy who apparently knows every contractor on the south shore) who I told my big story to. He came and took one look at what they did and after seeing it all in person, went to work to fix every single thing, and gave me a discount from his original quote because, "they really did a job on you, didn't they?"
Yes, they did, thanks for confirming that I was taken, and taken big. read more
