Loved the sausage gravy which was perfectly seasoned. Biscuit was not as light and flaky but the flavor and the grilled butter side was great. Hubby enjoyed a full breakfast with tasty fried potatoes. The bacon was a bit disappointing but could be because we are used to thick cut. The staff was super friendly and it was a comfortable place. I would love to confirm the other reviews and say how great this diner is, but its not. I am not exactly sure how they messed up scrambled eggs but they did. The eggs were overcooked with an odd taste. Link sausage was ok. Frozen biscuits and powered gravy mix are the offering. Be advised they add $.95 per meal for an "inflation" fee. Taste your own food, improve it, reprint your menus raising your prices if you must. The servers are great and deserve a better product to offer. read more

Stopped in for lunch today. i ordered the chicken salad sandwich that came with a thin piece of lettuce. My husband ordered a hot dog with chili. The hot dog was cold and the chili had a strange taste. The server said the chili came from the restaurant distributor. It had a funny taste. He took one bite and pushed it aside. He told the server it was cold. She offered to have another hot dog prepared but he declined. When he went to the register to pay the server said she subtracted $2. He explained that he didn't eat the hot dog and thought she should remove the charge. He returned an unopened bag of chips so she removed the charge for the hot dog but charged a 'surcharge' for inflation for both of us even though he only got an iced tea. We definitely won't be going back. read more

We are Smith Mountain Lake residents and had lunch at Mayberry Diner. It was wonderful. The food was great. We invited our friends and they had BLT Sandwiches. The bacon was stacked on Texas toast. I had the best Chicken Salad Sandwich with chips. They also have other sides including fries and onion rings. Our meals were prepared well and delicious. Our server was very nice and did a great job. The Diner was clean, comfortable and had a nice atmosphere. We highly recommend Mayberry Diner. read more

Stopped for lunch last week and had the country ham sandwich. The "generous portion" of ham was one thin slice that didn't even cover the bread. More lettuce than ham. I came back today to see if their breakfast was any better. Sausage patties were tiny, cold, and tough as leather. The hash brown looks like McDonalds but weren't as good. I was hoping for more but it was very so-so/ disappointing bordering on below average. Hash browns were pre formed like what you'd get at McDonald's or the Kroger freezer. The crispy bacon I asked for were like rubber bands, the over medium eggs were barely cooked and were more like over rare. It was also weird how several people walked in the front door and then into the kitchen area. Obviously they belonged because the employees were talking to them but they didn't have the mayberry shirts on or anything identifying them as employees. I also think there should be a traditional breakfast option like eggs, meat, hash browns (not frozen then deep fried) and toast. I didn't want all that plus a waffle or biscuits but it was the only option, unless I ordered all side items which would have cost even more. Speaking of prices, IMO too expensive for what you get. Maybe include a coffee with the meal. $14 per person for a very simple breakfast with coffee seemed excessive compared to other places in the area. We only spoke to one employee who was our server, and she was very nice, although seemed to be new at the job but no biggie. Maybe they will improve after some time. read more
