As someone who is now older and an alumni of this school, I have some reflections that I would like to share. They made us walk laps during recess, and the entire class was punished for a few students' mistakes. The teachers were racist and frequently accused minority students of doing things they didn't do. As an Asian student, I felt teachers targeted me because I was Asian and got mad at me for every small mistake I made. For example, I was made to sit alone when I dropped a pencil on the floor in first grade. This was humiliating and racist because none of the other students were punished for such a thing before, and they frequently yelled at myself and Asian students for things they didn't do, some I am not comfortable sharing because teachers made baseless accusations towards students like me. Based on this, I feel my civil rights were not respected at this school. The teachers' attitude impacted all students, and all students were frequently punished for actions they didn't do or a minority of the class had done. The teachers don't care about students' mental health at all. Both the racism and the lack of regard for elementary schoolers' mental health is consistent with a few other reviews here. They also had silent lunches and they didn't let students talk during lunch for periods of time or you'd have silent lunch and sit alone, which was humiliating for those who got it because they'd have to sit alone while everyone else was talking. If you didn't call a staff member ma'am or sir, they would yell at you. This school should be investigated for how they are treating, and especially how they have treated their students in the past. I have a friend who visited this school a few years back as an alum and saw teachers yelling at students. This was a habitual culture at May Howard Elementary. Consider enrolling your children at another school with teachers with the mental health capabilities to properly interact with them. read more

I used to go to school here since kindergarten the teacher was nice and but the assistant wasn't she was soooo mean to me (I'm Chinese) my 3rd grade teacher was so nice her name is Mrs. Risner I'm not sure if that how u spell her name but she was a great teacher so nice during COVID 19 but my 4th grade was rasict so rude targeting me for no reason absolutely hated her she would get me in trouble when I was putting my stuff away for no reason if you want your child to have nice teacher don't go here for 4th grade (it was Mrs. Cunningham) read more

A Great school so far and My son just starting cause we just moved to the neighborhood

There are actually a few things things bad about this school. There's this service in the cafeteria which allows you to get breakfast. The problem with this service is because when you're trying to sit and eat, you have to eat quickly because this lady wants you to hurry up and basically yells for you to hurry up and calls you out. You barely even have time to eat. Now let's talk about lunch. Sometimes the lunch isn't the best but it isn't bad but their pizza is so good. The trays they have aren't very stable, which makes our food fall very easily. The trays aren't like normal school trays, by the way. A lot of food spills and nobody notices and they slip and fall. I don't want anyone getting hurt but... Anyways, they play music which is the time when the students quiet down. Never works. Whenever someone talks during the music, the teachers come and just hush the students. Now let's talk about the teachers. I will not be naming them due to privacy reasons, but some are very rude. I walk by this certain classroom and I can hear the kids being yelled at. This is not okay because the students could be going through tough times and this makes it worse. Now, the classrooms. The classrooms can be decorated how the teacher desires, and honestly all the classes I've been in are great looking! Sometimes when I walk by I peer into the classrooms to see what they look like. Now the car riding system. Well, RDD (rainy day dismissals) are bad. They make you sit a hallway in 2 by 2. It's squished and they use microphones to call out people's names. Honestly, I don't miss the RDD. The normal dismissals are as bad too. You have to stand out in the cold and wait for your car. The specials are nice though.
