Outdoor activities including the rock wall and archery, water activities at the pool and splash ground, indoor activities like basketball and dodge ball in the gym and arts and crafts - not to mention the field trips they take regularly. (Yes, as the previous review stated, it gets hot in the summer in Savannah, so they do have to go inside during heat advisories. As a parent, I would prefer they not stay outside during extreme temperatures. Unfortunately, there is nothing the YMCA can do about the weather.) Also, the facility is great for folks who want to work out or play a sport. The gym is great, the gymnastics team is always winning medals at the national gymnastics championships and the sports programming is always wonderful.

I waited to get help at the membership desk for 20 min tonight 7/8/25. I looked in the wellness…read morecenter, the gyms, the ladies locker room, and tried every office. I even knocked on office doors. Finally I found an older gentleman in a janitor closet and he went and got a person to help. This person came out from an office that I had previously knocked at and told me their front desk closed at 7pm. She said that she wasn't allowed to log in to help me. Here are my biggest issues with this particular situation. First, I watched several young men walk in the gym without scanning membership cards. If the front desk is closed this employee shouldn't be hiding in the back because this is a huge security risk. Second, if you're going to enact this strange policy of having nobody up front, and you don't care who walks into the gym past 7:00, the least you could do would be to put a closed sign up on the membership desk or post the hours on the window. A reasonable person would believe that you're open if people are walking in freely and the lights are on. Third, this employee has no sense of customer service at all. Not only was she rude and unapologetic, she was smirking as if she was enjoying my inconvenience. I have held off on reviewing this gym since moving here because I really hate to post negative reviews on local businesses. However, there are several reasons why I have felt the need to share this review over the years. To begin with, it's the most oddly constructed gym. They have the tiniest little room for their child watch. Their fitness center is small. They don't have enough classes. And you have to walk through the gym or locker room to get to the pool. The child watch in my experience has always been understaffed. I showed up several times when the child watch was supposed to be opened and there was nobody there to watch my kids. Their youth programming is not well done. They don't take care of the field in the back and it's overly muddy which makes soccer season unbearable. They don't even attempt family programs or teen programs. They clearly have lots of teens using this facility that need their services but they don't offer anything for them. Don't even get me started on their child care and summer camps. It's literally unsafe. I'm glad to see that they finally started putting in some money towards renovations but it's still pretty run down and needs a lot more work. The programming is supposed to be what sets the YMCA apart from other gyms. If all you're looking for is a fitness center you can go to several different gyms in town. When we moved here I was really hopeful to get involved in the YMCA for their programs. But this Y is so poorly run and their programs are so unorganized. Not to mention they just hardly have any offerings. Having been a member of several Y's in different states, I can tell you that we deserve better in this community. We deserve a YMCA that is truly a part of the community and cares about the people that live here. I've had too many bad experiences here over the years to recount but it is clear that it's not improving. You can put in new lockers but it's still not great for the community and it's not even a very good gym. Definitely not worth the money.

Security is top notch also. About the staff, a very refreshingly posive vibe --- a special shout out to Ms. Tana and Naomi in 105 for getting him more interested in learning and developing project skills.

I have no idea why parents are still enrolling their children in this daycare. The staff and…read moremanagement here are awful. I had two of my children in this daycare. The 2 year old class was the worst and had the most trouble. They were always out of ratio and the kids were running around like crazy people. No learning or organization. They were leaving the kids in the same diaper all day. I picked my son up and he literally had a line of dried-up poop going down his leg. One day I got a letter from the Director saying they were kicking my son out. There was no explanation as to why. I went to the daycare the next day to discuss the situation. When I finally tracked down the Director who had been dodging me the entire day. She told me that she was putting him out because he had 2 potty accidents where they had to clean the room and it was an inconvenience for the teachers. My son is 2 and was potty training. The teachers would not take him to the potty so....what were they expecting was going to happen? They were negligent. None of the teachers told me about the accidents ever. I was just hearing about it that day. I asked those teachers every single day how my children did that day and if there is anything I should know. They never said anything was wrong. Always told me everything was fine. So, imagine my surprise. The director had to retract he letter to kick him out because the teacher didn't follow the proper protocol. They were supposed to notify me of the issue in writing first, which they didn't. If the issue continued, then they had grounds for dismissal. Since this was so poorly handled, I pulled both of my kids out of there. I was concerned that they would be mistreated even further. Their Richmond Hill location was shut down by the city because they were not running background checks!! Fortunately, when that happened, my kids had already been enrolled somewhere else for a month. This group of daycares are terrible. Do not take your children there. One last thing. Your kids will get hurt there constantly and people will act like they know absolutely nothing about it. They try to blame you and say it happened at your house when it clearly didn't. You dropped them off and they were fine. You pick them up in the evening and they are all busted up. Now how did that happen at home? They think we are stupid. Like I said before. Don't leave your kids here.

They made us walk laps during recess, and the entire class was punished for a few students' mistakes. The teachers were racist and frequently accused minority students of doing things they didn't do. As an Asian student, I felt teachers targeted me because I was Asian and got mad at me for every small mistake I made. For example, I was made to sit alone when I dropped a pencil on the floor in first grade. This was humiliating and racist because none of the other students were punished for such a thing before, and they frequently yelled at myself and Asian students for things they didn't do, some I am not comfortable sharing because teachers made baseless accusations towards students like me. Based on this, I feel my civil rights were not respected at this school. The teachers' attitude impacted all students, and all students were frequently punished for actions they didn't do or a minority of the class had done. The teachers don't care about students' mental health at all. Both the racism and the lack of regard for elementary schoolers' mental health is consistent with a few other reviews here. They also had silent lunches and they didn't let students talk during lunch for periods of time or you'd have silent lunch and sit alone, which was humiliating for those who got it because they'd have to sit alone while everyone else was talking. If you didn't call a staff member ma'am or sir, they would yell at you. This school should be investigated for how they are treating, and especially how they have treated their students in the past. I have a friend who visited this school a few years back as an alum and saw teachers yelling at students. This was a habitual culture at May Howard Elementary. Consider enrolling your children at another school with teachers with the mental health capabilities to properly interact with them.
