I'm giving them two stars because they did 1/4 or 1/2 of the job that I asked and they quoted me to…read morecomplete (you decide how much they actually did). Here are the details. I reached out to them last year to replace the batteries in our wireless & cordless shades in our living room, as well as rethreading some wire for one of our outdoor landscaping lights. I specifically told them that they would need a 30ft ladder to do the shades (as well as a description about the shades and that I would provide the batteries) and described the issue with the landscaping lights. The lady on the phone said that would be no problem. Fast forward a week and the technician they sent decided that he wanted to see the room because he didn't believe he needed a 30ft ladder. Upon his inspection he sure did need the larger ladder, and he said that it would need to be a two person job instead of a one person job (so $600 just for the shades). I could buy an appropriate ladder for that price, so I said no his estimate was no longer competitive and we wouldn't be paying for the company's services of time to address the shades. Then I said if he felt up to looking at the landscaping lights he would be more than welcome to do so, but we would be expecting a much lower price since they didn't plan for the shades appropriately. So he takes a look at the landscaping lights and says he can do it for "less" than what we were originally quoted for the shades and light (which was $500). So I said have at it then. I should have said take a hike! He "fixed" the light but didn't try to test to see if it was actually fixed. Then comes time for the bill, and sure enough it is less than $500 but it wasn't reasonable considering he ditched out on half the job and didn't want to even test to see if the light worked. Now why am I writing this review a year later, and why am I still steamed about it? Because we got both emails and mailers the other day asking for us to give them business again, even though a supervisor never called us to apologize or refund even a small amount given the subpar service. I totally get that people need to eat, and earn a living wage, and I'm fine with paying for that; when you don't do the job though, why should I have to pay the higher price when if I knew it up front I would have gone with someone else. Well... lesson learned. I don't recommend their services, and won't be using them ever again.

I should have read these reviews prior to reaching out to Mr. Handyman. I reached out to get a…read morequote for railing for my from porch. Tony came out and quoted me $1300.00 and after some thought I accepted the quote. On the day that the work was to be completed I was requoted a cost of 4300.00. I told the individual that I would not proceed for that cost, no work was done or started. He told me that he would go back and advise Tony and a refund for my deposit will be issued. After two days I called the office to confirm when the refund would take place. The young lady I spoke with did not know about the refund and I stated I would need to speak with Tony, she took a message for him to call me back. After two days I did not receive a call. I called two days later and was told that the message was given to Tony. I then reached out to Tony via his cell and left a voice mail, no return call back. I called the next day Tony picked up and told me he would call me back in 15 minutes, again no call back. It has been about a month and have not gotten any calls back. This company is unprofessional and confused to why they feel they can treat potential clients this way. Basically Tony has stolen my deposit. I have gone other routes to obtain my deposit. After reading some other reviews they have done this to other before. Stay away from this company.

Donald did such a good job changing out a bathroom tub and faucet drain at my Gurnee home, I made…read moresure to contact him to do a bigger job down at my rental property in downtown Chicago. One of the sprayers in an old Jacuzzi tub in one of our units was leaking and the plumber we called out to look at it gave us an estimate that fixing it would run into the thousands of dollars, so I called Donald to go down to see if he could come up with alternatives. At first, he suggested that he could probably fix the sprayer for a reasonable amount or replace it with a standard tub, but the tenants asked if we might install an in-unit washer-dryer instead. Donald said he'd be able to do that as well. He is always prompt in responding to messages and the quality of his work was top notch as always (see photos). I'll also add that he was generous with his time and willingness to share advice on how to address other home improvement issues with our rental property that we did not ultimately ask him to fix, such as helping us look up solutions to install a collapsible ladder to access the attic and replacing patio doors. I'm thankful that he was willing to drive all the way down to the city to do the work, and he was very fast and efficient in getting the job done. In addition, we ran into a couple of issues with matching tiles in the bathroom and putting doors on over the new space for the in-unit washer-dryer combo. Each time he was great with his communication and offered thoughtful advice. He also went above and beyond by making two extra trips downtown to address those problems. I sincerely appreciate how he makes sure to get the job done right, and with quality. My biggest concern in writing a second glowing review of him is that he'll get too much work and won't have any time to help me when I need his help again! lol. Donald is awesome. I'm so glad we found him!
