Seared Tuna Sandwich with pasta salad side

Love this place located in Arnold's Park. We made reservations for our party of 7 on a Saturday at noon. Highly recommend making reservations. We ate on the outdoor covered patio. Our waitress was so sweet and accommodating. I ordered the Seared Tuna sandwich which comes with a side. I ordered the tuna fully cooked. It is encrusted with sesame seeds and comes with a side of aioli and a yummy tomato bun. Great sandwich. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Always amazing food and incredible service. As others have mentioned, there is a bit of a walk because of parking and you will definitely want dinner reservations as they seem to always be fully booked.

We enjoyed the most amazing dinner ever at Maxwells Beach Cafe and our server Sam was fantastic! We started off with their classic calamari and as always it was prepared to perfection. Their feature was Elk with roasted asparagus and creamy mashed potatoes so we just had to have it... we ordered it medium rare but could have done rare. Buttery soft, melt in your mouth and what a treat! For you beef tenderloin lovers this will knock your socks off! Go for it... so good!

Another wonderful summer of dining at Maxwell's Beach Cafe! Our favorites are the Macadamia Crusted Halibut and Hawaiian Ahi Tuna sandwich. Parking is a bit of a pain, but worth the walk. It's hard to get in for dinner so highly recommend getting a reservation as walk-ins are nearly impossible.

We come here every year when we are back in the summer and we are consistently amazed about how good it is! They were very busy the night we stopped by (luckily we made reservations in advance) but our waiter was still incredibly attentive. The interior has an upscale East coast beach vibe, in a white linen way. Now for the food - wow. We each ordered something different - shrimp cocktail appetizer, oysters, prime rib, peppercorn, NY steak, and Hawaiian Ahi Tuna and everything was so good! The prime rib is some of the best I've had, and the ahi tuna is made with Ultra Tuna which is literally the best! They also have an incredibly wine and cocktail menu. If you want a great meal, at a great price - you have to try this place!

Now this is what a waterfront dining experience should feel like! Impeccable service with friendly staff and owners, fantastic food, great bar and atmosphere, coupled with a gorgeous sunset view! We sat at the bar, and were greeted by both bartenders quickly. Drinks were prepared to taste, and in our hands within a few minutes. The bar has everything you'll desire (short of espresso). The menu isn't expansive, but each selection appears carefully prepared to maximize taste & experience (plus value). You're in the middle of the country, so the beef is top notch (prime rib is very well prepared here), but their seafood is also nicely taken care of. While we didn't stay for dessert (had to enjoy a bit of Arnold's Park after dinner), this is highly recommended for any summertime visitors to the area.

Maxwell's has great food, with a great view, and great service. We had the prime rib, sea bass chef's special, scallops and ribeye for our entrees, would recommend them all! We ordered the prawns, calamari, and coconut shrimp for appetizers. Loved them all! An Okoboji staple! Would highly recommend!

As a resort town, there aren't always a lot of "fine dining" experiences, but Maxwell's provides one. Set in a very classy space, the service was exceptional. Starting off, there is a huge focus on Mules, with some really good variations on the drink. My favorite was the Pear Mule. It was a subtle sweet, so not too much and still tasted like the traditional Mule just enough. From there, we had the Crusted Chicken with Peanut Sauce. It was a solid dish, but I'm also partial to Peanut Sauce so color me a little biased here. For my salad, I had the Caprese. It was good, but lacked the depth of flavor to make it really standout. Lastly, onto the entrees, where the very large Prime Rib stood out fairly well amongst the rest. It was a large hunk of meat, with a nice crust. However, that exceptionally flavorful crust only touched maybe 3-4 bites total. Expanding its reach really would have put this meal above expectations. The walleye was also pretty good, but in the same vein, lacked that extra punch of flavor to move it up another level. All around, Maxwell's was a good dining experience. A slight addition of flavor would have really pushed this close to 5-star (or at least 4.5) territory.

I will…read moresay that I think it is as good as I expected it to be, but I always hope it'll be better thus I am not leaving a 5-star review. Fried pickles spears with the rock n roll sauce were great. I wouldn't have ordered these except my server recommended them out of all the apps, so I went with that. Fried things at places like this usually lack flavor and are just salty, fried bar food. These had some kick. The rock n roll sauce was like a Mayo with Frito's Chili Cheese Twists, so they were yummy. Tilapia on wild rice was ok, but it's tilapia, so how amazing can it be, right? Broccoli wasn't too over cooked and it still had a healthy green color, so I was happy with that. And the fries were a tad greasy, but they came out hot and crunchy. I think if they let the oil drain off them a bit more under a heat lamp, they'd hold their crispness a bit longer. Oh, and it was an entire plate of fries, so portions were generous. Lastly, everything was served very quickly. The place wasn't super-busy, but it wasn't dead and I was happy about the timeliness. I ordered an app first then placed an order for my entree after munching on that. And I was out done in 45 minutes. Granted, I was eating alone, but still. If you enjoy meat, I highly recommend giving this place a shot. I am a pescatarian (mostly vegetarian) and I have a sneaking suspicion that their beef and chicken options have much more developed flavors.

We stopped by on a Saturday as we were looking for a good family lunch spot and the other Yelp…read morereviews were good. The whole experience seemed flustered. The host originally seated us in a space that did not fit our party. Then he moved us to a center spot in a long, family-style table with people on either side of us. We had a five year old with us who was overly tired and very spunky and we had to try to keep her focused on us and not our neighboring patrons. Was really not the most appropriate seating for children but we didn't want to ask for yet another table. Soon after we sat down, we discovered that the parties on both sides of us were upset and looking for any employee so they could express their frustration. Seeing as we were all so close, we could hear them complain to others in their parties about the service. We learned shortly that we should have written up our losses early and moved on. We didn't. We ordered our beverages and immediately got water. The rest (2 soft drinks, an iced tea, and a milk) slowly trickled out one by one. The waiter apologized every single time he came to the table about how slow everything was from us being seated to getting our drinks to him coming to take our order. Once the food came out, he was apologizing again for how long that took. He wasn't wrong. As for the food, it was fine. Portions were average to smallish for the price. It wasn't as special as we had hoped it would be based on the descriptions. We each got something different and all said that we wouldn't order that item again. Not that it was bad. It just wasn't good. The best thing we had was the pretzel stick appetizer. That was pretty good but for the price, we wouldn't order it again. Nothing was super memorable except the decor which was super fun to look at. Oh and the very apologetic waiter. Our food came out hot. Turns out that was not true for the table to our left. The table to our right got the wrong food so half their group was done while the others were just starting. Apparently one of the cooks had called in. So, over all, I gave them an optimistic 3 stars. It was like a participation award with the assumption that if they were firing on all cylinders, it could have been much better. Personally, i wouldn't try them again but as the only Irish pub in the area, it could be a neat happy hour hang out. It just was not a family lunch spot.
