Okoboji Store is by far one of the coolest hangouts on the lake. We popped over for lunch on a Thursday and was seated right away, outdoors overlooking the lake. Service was great, pricing is a bit steep but worth it. The food was fabulous. We started lunch with mini donuts for the table. Wowza. I adored the dipping sauces and they came out piping hot. My kiddos were clean plate club with a chicken and waffle. I enjoyed some fabulous fish tacos with breaded bluegill. The true star of the show however, was Grandmas Cucumber Salad. OMG. I'm a sucker for cucumbers and this was a must order for me. The Okoboji Ice Water (their take on a Long Island Ice Tea) was tasty, too. This is the second time we've eaten at this restaurant both times while visiting Okoboji for vacation. The service has always been decent. We love coming here for the view of the lake and the over all atmosphere of the restaurant. We ordered the deconstructed nachos for an appetizer, our chips came mostly broken and crumbs at the bottom. We asked for another basket of chips for the appetizer and were brought one however the waiter failed to mention there would be an extra $2 charge to replace broken chips. We ordered the zekes fish and chips which we've had before and enjoyed them. Upon leaving we saw two waitresses vaping and taking pictures of themselves. I realize they are probably on their breaks but may want to do those activities not in the parking lot where customers are coming & going. read more

Waited over an hour (said 45 minutes) Food was good, not excellent. A little pricy. Asked for a seat closer to water, said it was already claimed but no one showed up. I have so many tips & tricks: - First off, if you'd like to get a spot & not wait forever - they recommend showing up between 3-4:30 to ensure your larger groups can be sat right away. - If you're bringing kiddos, there's a park out back they can play on and around until you're seated. - If you're a larger group, and okay with being split up between a few seats, let them know & you can get seated much quicker. - The Okoboji water drink is a Long Island but better - all of their drinks are spectacular. If you're looking for the quintessential Okoboji restaurants/bars, the Okoboji Store Bar & Kitchen would most certainly be on that list. Since I grew up in Okoboji, I have seen this location evolve and I truly think it has hit its stride. This place has so many deck areas and levels to soak in some sunshine and watch the boats pass under the grade. If you're on a boat, you can even dock it here and take a break for a bite to eat or a cold drink. They have a chill area off to the side where kids can play and take in one of the live music performances on the outdoor stage, but if the weather isn't cooperating, there's also seating indoors. All of the food we had was pretty delicious. Let's start with dessert first because who doesn't love to do that. The one on the right was recommended to us by our server is their "New-fangled Scotcheroo" which is basically a tower of peanut butter rice crispy cakes, with layers of chocolate ganache, drowning in a butterscotch caramel sauce. That thing was a little difficult to take bites of, and we finally had resort to a knife and a fork, but it was deliciously rich. Probably more my speed was the blueberry lemonade sundae in the background. I opted for the fried bluegill fish tacos and really enjoyed them. That fish is obviously very delicate and I appreciated that they weren't overly breaded. The sauce was great and the slaw was crisp. My dad's burger & fries looked pretty on point, but he wasn't down to share. The girls ordered deconstructed nachos and decided that it was more glorified chips and queso, but the meat in the cheese sauce was really good. The drinks I have had there are pretty much what you would expect. This bloody Mary was a little spendy, but really tasty. They also have a beer called the "Miss Thriller" available only here that was brewed by WestO and it is very good. I'm thankful their drinks are far better than just domestic beers and well cocktails. Lastly, I do want to commend the staff. They were slammed on Memorial Day when we were there and our server was awesome. He was friendly, gave great recommendations, and checked in periodically. While we were there, we noticed that they had adequate staff, but it was clear that the kitchen was getting behind. The manager came by and made it right by us, so we were appreciative. However, if you're wanting super quick service during the busy meal times, grab a drink and just relax. read more

We were able to seat ourselves and our orders were promptly take. We wanted to try the fried cheese curds. The killer is the price. You get some cheese curds that are fried nicely but not with the $$. I ordered the pork tenderloin. It's battered in the same stuff as the cheese curds. No dressing. Just the normal side items. Fries were good. My wife got the Mac Burger. The Mac was cheap looking and flavorless. The jalapeño was fresh so that made it colorful. We had a pretty bland experience here, and one i believe could be redeemed and was more dependent on the waitress we had and the busyness of the setting. FOOD : We started with chips and queso and man.. it was GOOD. This was probably the best food we had that night, a queso dip featuring Mexican street corn and tender pork with a little spicy kick - my mouth is watering just thinking about it. SO GOOD! I ordered a bunless classic burger and they attempted to make it into a lettuce wrap. For sides I got green beans and grandmas vinegar cucumbers. The burger was good but nothing out of the ordinary, I was also supposed to get tomatoes onions and pickles and it came without any of that - just a patty and lettuce. The green beans were alright but super tough and not very enjoyable. When it came to the cucumbers, it wasn't terrible but they tasted like they had sugar on them as well and it just didn't sit right with me. My plate wasn't overtly bad, it was more so that it didn't really wow me and it was kind of mediocre. HOWEVER, everyone else seemed to love theirs! My husband got the cock and bull and said it was phenomenal, the table especially liked the fries as well. SERVICE : The hostesses were so unbelievably kind and were really prompt in getting us, a table of 7, seated. We only waited maybe 5 minutes! However, I would say the best advice I can give if you're coming is to get here before 5 or make reservations. As soon as 5PM hits, that place is CROWDED! So get there soon or regret lagging. Our waitress was nice, but not exactly the best. She barley came around to our table and took about ten minutes or more to get anything we asked for which was just kind of lame, but oh well.
