Had to stop in to try the Charlie Boy Tavern sandwich. It's basically a peppery sloppy joe of sorts. The bun was very soft. Overall, it was a pretty good little sandwich. The true surprise was the buffalo wings, which were actually very good. They were vinegary and very saucy. Last, I can't fail to mention the "coldest" beer in town. Huge frosty mugs help for the somewhat limited beer selection. Good stop for a small bite, just expect it to be busy and service to be a little slow due to that (they get overwhelmed). Tried getting service at our table for 45 minutes, but were told to go to the bar by the waitress in a huff. Went to the bar and the waitress rolled her eyes at us. It was busy, but the atmosphere was absolutely ridiculous. We left, not worth spending our money there. read more

Thursday night football. This is the offseason for the lakes, so it's mainly locals etc. My wife and I frequent the original Miles in Sioux City every time we are back in town (have done so for years). First - this is not the Sioux City Miles you know and love. Second - we sat ourselves at a high top when we arrived. Maybe 20 people tops in the joint with a few bar backs and servers. After nearly 15 mins, no service. Made my way up to the bar, schooners in hand in less than 2 mins. Ok, no problem. We finish those, empty glasses on the table for another 15-20 mins, nothing. Please note others around us were getting service etc and yet our table keeps getting passed by?? I again go get two schooners at the bar, and put in for two Charlie boys. This isn't my first rodeo. I've watched them make Charlie boys back in SC a hundred times-crockpot meat, spoon on the bun, pickles, cheese, k&m..done. 30 MINUTES go by...still nothing. Finally the lady behind the bar is making rounds at the tables and asks if we got our order yet. We both say "Nope. Still waiting". She makes a big deal about it and acts like she's on top of it. Another 20 minutes goes by - she's again making her rounds (note 20 mins between checking tables.....), asks if we had our Charlie boys yet, we just laughed at her and said no. She says "what!?!? My goodness. You need to be more vocal! I'll get that right now!". Yea, great point...my fault, should have been asking every 5mins where my order was....She goes back and brings them over, literally making them herself. Mentions something about "can't depend on anyone anymore" and in the end gives me one for free ($3.50...). Pretty sure the big guy with glasses behind the bar was drinking and/or drunk....and I for sure saw the owner bellied up at the bar drinking (I recognized him from the SC Miles). Overall, a major disappointment-I'll tell others not to bother and actually go to the Ritz (which, if you know the Ritz, you realize how big of a slam that is)....sad, awful, and terrible excuse of a bar/restaurant...literally staining the name of the classic Miles.
