Table for 13 had a great lunch today. Several options for gluten-free whether they are fajitas, enchiladas, soft corn tortilla tacos or street tacos. The chips were not gluten-free, but that was OK, they allowed us to bring our own, but the salsa there is amazing. They had three different types in addition to three different bottles of hot sauce. Highly recommend the habanero and jalapeño hot sauces. The restaurant was clean, and the servers were very attentive to us. read more

Whenever I come home to visit, I love stopping here!! Although it is a larger restaurant, it does get crowded and you may have to wait! The staff is extremely friendly though, and they'll be sure that you don't miss your turn to be seated. It is very colorful, you can't miss the building when you pass by! It can be loud, it is contingent on guest count. The restaurant is located right across the entrance from Arnold's Park. The chips and salsa are always fresh. They serve a classic salsa with cilantro, onion, & tomato. They also serve a second salsa that has this incredibly delicious smoked flavor. We also ordered queso & guacamole. I love the queso here, but not a huge fan of the guacamole. I feel like the avocados could be much more fresh than they are served. For my main dish, i ordered the shrimp burrito! It's always been good & it was just as good as i remembered, smothered in all its glory with that creamy queso! I also ordered the spicy margarita, which wasn't bad but it did take forever. I'd probably just order a regular one next time, nothing special or fancy about it. My sister in law loved the nachos, and my brother loved the tacos! Los Pueblos actually surprised me with their tasty Mexican food and friendly service. This is a great place to stop if you're in Okoboji or with the family and you can almost always get a seat! FOOD : We got the chicken fajitas and truthfully thought they were awesome. They had a lot of flavor and were perfectly filling. They were a lot less greasy and oily than I expected which I was pleasantly surprised by!! I did get a chewy piece of chicken which was a bit of a turnoff, but it wasn't all like that which was nice. I really loved the rice and would've had a whole plate of that if I could! Everyone seemed to love their dishes and all agreed they'd go back. We had pleasant and prompt service and it was a good atmosphere. Their prices were also pretty affordable and lower than most Mexican restaurants which was awesome. read more

A couple Saturday's ago, Gayle and I were hanging out with one of my brothers (Tom), his daughter (Charlotte), my Son (David), and my Cousin Alan. We met for a Nutty Bar, and while were there, tripped through the Tipsy House at Arnold's Park. We were having a nice time. At some point, my brother asked what we were going to do for dinner. As everyone (except Gayle) looked at me, the real message was: Where are you taking us for dinner? Yes, I'm the planner in the family, and during those few times that I deliberately stand back, nothing ever is decided. I chose Los Pueblos because it was close and with Mexican food, it's relatively inexpensive, offers good portions, and the food comes out quickly. I was fortunate that I didn't experience a related pattern of folks rejecting my choice, right after they say "you choose". The only irritation was the rejection of saving 15-20 minutes of wait time if we agreed to sit in 2 separated tables. I remember ordering a fairly decent Quesadilla Verde (with Chicken) selection, while Gayle salad was delivered with the wrong meat and with hot gravy that spilled onto her hand. Other than that, folks seemed to enjoy their choices, and with sparse alcohol selection, the total bill turned out to be "family friendly". Our service was friendly and attentive, although the "food out fast" reputation for this Mexican restaurant was not realized. I guess I should say "mission accomplished" as I managed to feed 6 family members fairly efficiently and economically. Places like Los Pueblos are popular in resort areas such as this because of these factors. And if you're coming off the golf course, lots of food and margaritas make a happy 19th hole among friends. That may also explain why the 2nd basket of chips are not free. Past that, Mexican or Italian cuisine has never been our first choice and baring another similar family gathering dynamic, I doubt whether Gayle and will return during our annual stay at the Iowa Great Lakes. read more

I do NOT recommend this place for dine in. Service was unsatisfactory . Not sure if it was ethnic or cultural but the waiter was disrespectful. Had to ask the cashier for drinks after 20 minutes of waiting. Food came out after all others served first. Didn't bother asking if we needed anything until we got up to pay. Our family moved to the Okoboji area 7 years ago from Texas. This is THE ONLY Mexican restaurant in the area that reproduces the tastes of authentic TexMex. We frequent this restaurant at least once a month and it consistently meets the mark of outstanding TexMex food. I love mole sauce and can find it only here. Wow, I rarely have been disappointed when going to a restaurant a second time but both John and I were. The homemade or at least heated tortillas were the star and that's pretty bad. The dishes we ordered were pretty normal - Carnitas and John ordered a chicken dish from their "special" dinner menu but was given beef. It took at least 30 min. And then of course we were out of salsa so we asked for more but it was never delivered. Oh and by the way don't order extra chips, that will cost you $5.50. I just hate to do this and only give two stars but when you sit down at the place that you chose to go and not all the other possibilities you want a nice experience. This just wasn't evident from the get go. Unfortunate indeed. read more

They asked why I didn't eat any of my food and still charged me after I said there was no chicken on it. Drinks are awful anymore. Plus a raw tomato. To start, I ordered a Small Pineapple Margarita that tasted like water for $7.. Large Margaritas were $15.99! Oh my. The first basket of chips and two different salsa's were pretty good. Want more than one basket of chips for 4 people? That'll be $5.50 extra per basket. Completely ridiculous. Our waitress was friendly, but completely forgot about us after our drink order. Another waiter came by and took our order, then our waitress came 20min later and asked if we were ready to order. 3 tables seated after us in different sections got their food before we did. We waited 50 minutes to get our food. The portions were small considering every Mexican restaurant I've been to serves massive plates of food. I ordered the Chile Colorado, it was beef and sauce only. I asked for onions and jalapeños in it. I got 4 slices of jalapeños for $2 extra! My mom ordered a shrimp burrito and some of the shrimp inside still had their tails and shells on! The only reason this place is getting 1 star is because I thought the Chile Relleno's were very good. Overall this was the worst Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to. read more

Came in with a group of five. This was our first time in the area and Los Pueblos. The decor was really nice and they have a beautiful outdoor sitting area. I had the carne asada and it was nicely prepared and packed a lot of flavor. There was a random magician walking around doing card tricks and he said he was there every Wednesday. The food was great but our sever was very slow. He may have been new and the tables that came in after us got their food and tickets before we did. Outside of that great place. read more

Really good food. We had enchiladas, fajitas, a quesadilla, and I had the Taco Loco. Delicious! Great service, good atmosphere, good prices. Enjoyed it and would recommend. Took 1 star away because the booths are sort of uncomfortable. They are very small. So maybe ask for a table if you have 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 teens like we have. Chips and salsa aren't the best but still good. First batch is free but they charge if you want more, which I believe is fair. They give you a lot so more wasn't even needed for us.
