While I waited, I chatted with Shout out to Christine C. (who, was wearing open-toe sandals in that mess of a storm), and it finally clicked--this was the food truck I had heard about! I'd already been hyped from the event, but now it was about to get real. Time to see if they lived up to the buzz. Aunty handed me my sandwiches--and let me tell y'all, they did not miss. Not on flavor, not on freshness, not on the care they put into making that food. The smash burger? Two juicy patties dripping with flavor, melted cheese, fresh tomato, and that bandit sauce. I don't know exactly what's in that sauce it's giving aioli vibes but whatever it is, it hit. I took one bite, and before I finished chewing, I already wanted another. Flavor on flavor. And the chicken sandwich? It didn't come to play either. A lot of chicken sandwiches are just... fine. This one pulled out all the tricks. The chicken breast was seasoned all the way through, battered with a crispy crunch (not soggy), and topped with fresh, crisp veggies. You could tell they battered it themselves. This wasn't some tired fast-food version. This sandwich had something to say and I heard it loud and clear. Food trucks can be hit or miss. At one point, they were the next cupcake trend everyone had one, but few stood out. Flavor Bandits Food Truck hit different. They're serving serious eats at solid prices, all from the window of a truck. Local business. Kind people. All-female run. And absolutely crushing it with big flavor and good vibes. Think lettuce, queso fresco, avocado and beans. A knife was provided but I found it easier to tear into the tortilla and eat with my hands. Paired with a Tamarind Jarritos and free chips and salsa, it was a satisfying meal after a long day of hunger. Is it Mexican street food or a burger joint? It takes forever for the food to come out of a totally confused kitchen and even though there are numbers on the table, they don't know where to bring it. It's the fault of the "21st century"ordering system they are employing. IT is totally "Fakakta"!! Theoretically, the order goes from your phone to the kitchen, where they process it and prepare your food, then the runner brings it to your table. The reality is disappointingly different. You're better off, sitting at the bar; getting blitzed and watching TV. The fast food gets there sooner! You can do that at home and not have to worry about driving home drunk. Our guest raved about the food for weeks! (We're still hearing about it from friends and family). The beef tenderloin was fantastic, our guests raved about how perfect it was cooked, a true feat especially when prepared in mass. Everyone loved the chicken empanadas, the mojo chicken, the charcuterie cones, and the tuna tartar. We opted for a vegetarian pállela for our vegan/vegetarian friends and it was a hit.
