Funny how much more wholesome this location is compared to the downtown location. Hard to believe they are owned by the same company in fact. Consider this contrast: parking lot free of riff raff, clean lot, well organized and stocked inside, CLEAN, cannot smell the meat or seafood department, produce looks fresh and NOT on death's door, friendly cashiers, and a model of good management. I went in to buy a couple of 2 liter sodas because its the closest store to my new house. The person in front of me was charged 10 cents per bag which is normal. When i got my total for my sodas i was asked if i wanted a bag so i thought why not, its only 10 cents. My total went up another 50 cents. I asked, why so much and was told thats what they charge. Ok so im not trying to play the race card but wtf? I was the only white guy in the place. This includes all the employees. Coincidence? What ever happened to equal opportunity employers? Like i said, im not racist but what happened to America when it's ok to have an all Hispanic establishment while the Caucasian companies must meet certain government criteria. I'm writing this review in response to the review from Diane C, who feels she has had terrible customer service at MaxiFoods because she is white. I too am white and have had nothing but friendly service there. I don't shop there often, but every time I have gone I have been greeted with smiles and enthusiasm. I was there with a friend yesterday and we agreed that rarely have we encountered such friendliness and helpfulness from the entire staff from any store. When these things do happen, I make a point of complimenting the management on their staff, as many people forget to communicate the positive, only the negative. Not trying to discredit Diane, just sharing my own experience. That said, it is a small store, I go there when I am in the area to take advantage of their great prices on fruits and veggies, can't really comment on much else. So, in case the review written by Diane has given you cause for pause, go ahead and give it a go, my experience there has always been pleasant. read more

Quality of produce (vegetables and fruits) have gone low. I use to come here every other day and have been noticing the quality rapidly diminishing. I love this maxi foods. Everyone treats you so nicely I have been coming here since we moved to riverside county 15 years ago. Their meats are really good quality as well as their veggies and fruits. The prices recently seem higher than before but the atmosphere of the workers hasn't changed. It's always super clean even the restrooms always clean! Not once have I gone in and not been happy. The one on university well that one needs to take notes. Overall the cashiers and rest of the staff are super friendly and always ask you about your day makes you wanna go back. read more

Purchased a dozen tamales on March5, 2019. , they were terrible. Not edible at all. I have had their tamales in the past and they were quite good. But they have lost their quality. The masa was too thick, very dry, crumbly and totally tasteless. The inside contained some type of mystery meat flavored like chicken. My family could not eat them. Total waste of money. A friend purchased tamales on the same day , she said her family could not eat them,and they threw them away. Maxi Foods should be ashamed of themselves. read more

This has to be the worse market ever!!! I been coming here for the past 3 years only because is to closes to me. First I bought a cheese in the meat department when I got home and tried the cheese it was rotten yuck gross second I bought a strawberry jelly I opened it an it was all green on the top when I went back to return it the manager was extremely rude because I didn't have my receive third my husband stop by to get sour cream again all green you may ask why do I keep going yes that's the same question I asked myself but this last one thru me over the top I bought a load of bread when I got home I was about to make sandwiches for my kids and the bread was full of MAGGOTS so freaken gross !!! This is an update to my original review. I had purchased ten bottles of Sidra Real (an Argentinian bubbly beverage my family buys for our Christmas and New Year's toasts) from this store which, upon opening the first two, turned out to be in bad condition (the content was flat and had an odd color). I immediately took the remaining unopened eight bottles to the store, but was told there were no returns allowed for alcoholic beverages. I explained that the sole reason for the return was that the beverages were unfit for consumption. Still I was told no return would be accepted. Upon contacting the corporate office, I was assured that I would receive my refund. So I drove back to the store, and the cashier (who had already been notified by corporate that the store had to issue the refund) immediately processed the refund and apologized for the inconvenience. I appreciate the assistance of the Corporate Office. Though this issue should have been addresses on my first trip to the store. read more

Always a great place to shop. All employees are so friendly. There is NEVER a line. And if for some reason there is, they open registers immediately. If you tried Maxi Foods sometime ago and were less than thrilled, you should know it has been significantly improved. It's now very clean and there are no longer creepy dudes leering at you (I don't know where those dudes came from, but they sure loved to shop at Maxi Foods...but they're gone now, hooray!). You really cannot beat the prices on produce at Maxi Foods. I was in there yesterday and you could get 2 lbs of tomatillos for 99 cents, 5 lbs of potatoes for $1 (I think it was--maybe $2 but that's still way cheap). And the quality of the produce is comparable to, if not often better than, what you'll find at the big chain grocery stores. There is also a huge variety of meats to choose from. If you cook cuisine that requires anything like trotters, brains, tripe, tongue, ox tail, etc., you can find it at Maxi Foods. Aside from Mexican and American foods and products, they also stock foods from other South and Latin American countries. I noticed a lot of stuff from Peru, for example. The down side, and the reason I don't shop here more, is that there are no organic options. read more

After going there for 3 years,as I complained once before, I am white therefore I am invisible. I purposely try to make eye contact with the employees and mostly they avoid looking at me. One cashier has the look of, if looks could kill I wouldn't be in her store. Happens all the time. But since it is on my way home and they DO have great meat prices, I shop there. i really like this one better than the university one even though i wish this one had a kitchen and a bakery. i like it better because they always are very helpful. This place is great! The service at the checkout (I didn't interact with anyone behind the deli counter) was quick and she was super friendly! I ran in here to grab some chicharones and I spent way longer than planned. I've been dying to make mole poblano and had no idea where I was going to find Mexican chocolate and all the different types of peppers I would need and this place had it all. After continuously shopping there I have come to be recognized by their staff. I also have learned how to intersect the sale items in a manner that makes them consistently available. Tisk tisk yet another bad experience..here we go again , long story short came in to pick up some groceries and goodies today and left with a bad taste in our mouths. So upon picking out some requeson cheese i had a female employee come from behind and just stood there staring at me so i turn around and ask her politely if she needed for me to move, after all she works there, any who she says nothing and stares at me with a dirty look and says in Spanish with a real mean attitude "no its okay i will wait until you youngsters are done"(keep in mind we are not 19 & 20yrs old im almost in my thirties plus this is a LATINO BASED STORE AND ME AND MY WIFE ARE LATINO!!!!, SO FOR ALL YOU THAT ARE NON LATINOS DON'T FEEL BAD THEY DO IT TO THEIR OWN KIND AT THIS STORE!!!*i say this based on another review i read on here*NO PUN INTENDED ) i said "fine if you say so"..we picked out the cheese and left as we walk off she says "thank you youngsters have a nice day"(keep in mind the sarcasm in the voice of this lady as she says all this with a subliminal attitude) i don't even turn around and give her the same courtesy she just gave us and said "thanks...you too" now keep in mind me and my spouse have been coming to Maxi Foods since before we have been married and our families come here too! All i can say is WOW how the times and this store have changed and NOT in a GOOD way..what a SHAME, now at the check register the next female employee has an attitude as well gives me a dirty look and acts just like the previous female employee, now im not very happy at this point and i ask if the the debit card chip reader works right? Store always has a good variety and I don't have to search around much because they usually have good deals going on its smaller than some other grocery stores but it's still one of the places I like to go when there is something I need. Down side the don't have some Asian ingredients I could find at a bigger store. read more
