My Tesla has been rattling every time I drove past 72 mph. I made an appointment with the service department for late July. I did look for the possible cause of the shaking and it could be due to a foam separation in one of the tires. This past weekend while driving home in a torrential downpour, I heard a constant thumping noise. I turned on the screen to check my tire pressures and sure enough, one of my tires was lower than all the rest. What freaked me out was how rapid the tire was losing pressure at an alarming rate. With a quick online search I found Mavis one mile away. Honestly, at this point I felt like I had no choice but to paid for whatever he was going to quote me. But I was actually okay with the price because I remember what I had paid for in the past at one of my local tire shops. The shop was kinda busy and I really appreciate that the whole process took less than half an hour. When they took off the tire, he had me come take a look at what caused the flat. The foam separation had become detached from the tire. Very dangerous since this can cause a blowout or I could have spin out of control on the roadway. Avoid this place at all costs i will never go back. Do not trust this them with your car. You'll leave with a headache, wasted money, and a car that's worse than when you came in. Their work is dangerous, unsafe and unreliable. I came in to get new tires and brakes, and it turned into a nightmare. They replaced all four tires and the next day my car alerted me to check tire pressure. I went back and they said they had overinflated the FRONT tires to 70 PSI literally double the recommended 35 PSI. That is so dangerous i can't even believe it but I was like okay mistakes happen you know. Next day the alert popped up again i took it back they said the REAR tires were overinflated to 70 PSI. Now im like are they joking are they pranking me becuase what is even going on. I gave it another chance but AGAIN on the third day it said check tire pressure i took it back and they said the valve on the back wheel was broken something that should have been caught on one of the FOUR trips that i had made before. i never got these constant check tire pressure alerts before going there they had broke it. I dont know what they were doing were they playing with it or were they lying about checking. This was three days of wasted time, back and forth, and constant stress. As for the brakes, they installed the cheapest, lowest-quality pads imaginable. They squeak with every wheel rotation constantly when im driving under 30 mph, brake or slow down its ear-piercing and embarrassing. I didnt even take my car back for them to hear the brakes becuase i know theyre gonna make up some excuse for why squeaking is normal. Its been 600 miles since i got them changed the sound should have gone away!! I took my car to two other reputable shops afterward nothing was mechanically wrong the noise is literally only because of their substandard parts. Terrible experience! I bought new tires here, and they damaged my rims during installation. I took my car back the next day and they admitted it and promised the repairs would be done in one day. I had to bring my car again the next day and was told it would be ready that night. That was three days ago, and I still haven't heard a single update. I called to follow up and never received a phone call back. This after following up multiple times and getting the runaround. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. They damage your property and then disappear instead of taking responsibility. If you value your car and your time, stay far away from this place. I went to Mavis 3 weekends straight to get my right passenger tire changed. The 1st time the wrong tire was ordered and put on my car. And the workers called another women in and showed her my car and advise that the wrong tire was ordered. They had no clue to whose car they were working on. Came back a 2nd Saturday to get the correct tire but on. Tire was replaced. I got home and my partner looked at the car and noticed it was the wrong tire. I went back to the store and was advised that the correct tire would be ordered and put on my car. I went last weekend and the worker was very unprofessional and had an attitude as though I made these mistakes. Finally the correct tire was put on my car, but I notice scratches on my hubcap. I work Monday-Friday and the weeks are all I have to do my errands. I don't the last 3 weekend sitting in Mavis Discount getting 1 $300 tire replaced. I went to patch my tire yesterday and they said they couldn't because the nail was too close to the outside of the tire and proceeded to try to sell me a tire. I said that I was not interested in buying new tires and all of a sudden when I was leaving they said I had a nail in one of the back tires which was not there before.. how convenient! Today I went to another tire shop and they patched my tire with no problem. After they were done I told them what they had told me here and he just giggled and told me that so many people go to the him saying the same thing about Mavis. I wish I had seen these reviews earlier to avoid having to write one of my own. Avoid this place at all cost. I scheduled to have all 4 of my dads tires replaced at 4pm on 12/29/2023. I arrived on time and they didn't put his car on the lift until 5pm and then dragged their feet for another hour removing, mounting, and balancing 4 tires. Then around 6pm they started to put the wheels back on the car all except 1. They proceeded to remove the new tire off the wheel, placed the wheel on the tire mounting machine and let it sit unattended for the next 10 mins. Realizing something was off I asked one of the technicians when he entered the waiting area if everything is okay and he said yes they are working on the last one right now. Which was an obvious lie. So when the taller guy (front desk, reception, manager) came in to the waiting area to accept payment from another customer I stopped him on his way back out to the shop and asked him "hey what's going on? why is it taking so long?" he tells me to follow him into the shop to show me what is wrong and then tried to tell me that the tire valve isn't holding air because its corroded and "proves it" by showing me that they can't remove the valve stem core. Which I asked "how can that be when those valves held air just fine when I brought the car in?". Here is the thing. Why would the first technician say everything is fine when it wasn't and why would the manager try to avoid telling me something was wrong until I asked? It's obvious that they broke the valve and tried to hide it until they couldn't any longer. Mistakes happen, I'm not mad about that just take responsibility and fix the problem. No big deal. Instead they tried to play it off like the valve was already broken because they thought I didn't know anything about cars and then tried to charge me for the part they broke. (I graduated from Lincoln Tech with honors, worked as a mechanic for years, I'm currently an engineer by trade, and I continue to work on all of my own cars) I know how long it takes to mount and balance 4 tires (definitely not over an hour) and I know tire valve cores doesn't just get corroded or stuck especially when they have the caps on them. Let alone on a 5 year old car (2018 Toyota Rav4). I brought my dads car to them because it was cheap and I didn't have the machinery to do it myself. What is worse is that when I called them out on their lies the taller guy tried to threaten me by saying if I don't pay them I can't leave with the car and then tried to kick me out of his shop when I protested by saying they need to take responsibility for their mistakes. (that's what business insurance is for) Which he then asserts again that its either I pay or I leave and come back in the morning with the money. So I called the cops and corporate (still waiting to hear back from corporate) and in the meantime they replaced the faulty tire pressure sensor valve without my consent (probably to get rid of the one they broke). Then when they were done the tall guy proceeds to tell me they're going to do me a favor and give me a $30 discount on an $80 part they broke. Which my dad reluctantly paid to avoid further issues despite my protest. The cops came 3 minutes later and I filed a report. Unfortunately because my dad paid and they are releasing the car they can not do anything. However, I was informed that Mavis could not legally hold his car and that they would've made him give him back his car. So to everyone reading this. If they try the same thing with you. REMEMBER do NOT pay for it and call the cops or better yet just avoid this place like the plague. read more

Do not go. Got tires and shocks. On my drive to work the next day, the car was shaking aggressively. I took it to Mazda across the street from work to inspect. They found all 4 shocks were installed incorrectly and 1 was broken. They fixed the broken 1, but the car still shook. I opened a case with Mavis and they had me take it into a different Mavis twice. They could not figure out what the Rahway Mavis did to my car. I took it to another auto shop and they also could not figure out why my car shook. In the end I had to get a new car and Mavis will refund nothing. Not the broken shock they installed, labor I had to pay for at other spots, nothing. Too bad there isn't a Zero Start rating. Bought two new tires because one of mine had slice in it. Desk guy said it would be less than an hour. They put the 2 new tires on the back after the desk guy noted to put new on front and best two on back. Discard sliced tire. They put car back up on lift and moved tires to front, but they put the sliced tire back on the back. Then they tried to tell me that it was the best tire and showed me two other tires that were not even the right size tires and they were almost tread-less and said they were mine, when I pointed out they weren't even the same size they back down immediately and realized they put the wrong tire on the car went back on the lift for third time. The tech and the desk guy (he was a sub manager from another site) were arguing through the entire process. I was there for 4 hours. No apology, just blamed each other, run as fast and far as you can from this place. read more

We dropped off the vehicle at 810 am.....it was us and one other person at the time waiting. We were told 2 hours. 2 hours came and gone....called at 1130am was told "just a little bit longer ". Called at 130, 330,......finally at 5pm was told definitely 530pm. My son got there at 530pm and waited till 645pm!!!! Then only one lug nut was tighten on the rim......my son could tighten the rest by hand. The lug nuts aren't stripped either. Go to Atlantic Tire in Avenel NJ. read more

Unprofessional & Incompetent! I went there when they opened and was the 1st car in the garage. I was told around an hour for 4 tires a balance and an oil change on a 2010 Prius. I also ask them to please screw the bulb for my headlight in tighter. An hour from 8:15 is 9:15, if I'm not mistaken. . . Right?! Or did I forget how to tell time? The previous day, when I came in to price the job Brian, the guy who serviced my vehicle was laughing and joking with me like we were long lost buddies. After what I would call patiently waiting, he comes out and mentions the headlight so I said "hey, while you're here, what's taking so long? " (It's now 10:30). He rolled his eyes and says, "It takes a while what do you think" & begins to walk away from me. I said "I asked you a question" & he replied "so what you want me to put the car down?! " or something to the same effect. Now, if you're gonna talk shit about the customer, maybe don't do it through a clear glass door and have your boy, Kyle agree with you. After that I lost it, so I went outside to call Corporate. Stephanie at Corporate was professional and listened as I told her that didn't fly with me since I was paying nearly $600 to be treated like that. She asked if it was ok to call over there and find out what was going on, and I told her it was fine as long as they didn't do anything to jeopardize the repairs to the car. Clearly, she hadn't called over yet when the manager type guy came out defending Brian and the amount of time it took to do whatever the hell he was doing, in addition to all the talking and joking he was doing with his co-mechanic, Kyle. I told him, yeah, that's fine, except I got a 9 year old at home, I don't let talk to me like that, and I'm paying for this attitude. All I needed was an update and some communication. Shortly after, Stephanie must've called because all of a sudden everyone is kissing my hiney & the manager advises Brian was spoken to about his attitude and work ethic. Fast forward thirty minutes more when Brian tells me he has some bad news about my headlight. I'm told I need a hundred dollar or so H. I. D. headlight and a $300 or so ballast. I obviously can't waste anymore time or money so I said thanks and got in the car. Brian sort of apologizes and they both walk away (happy to be rid of me I'm sure) when I see the oil maintenance light isn't even reset. I get that all cars are different but pretend you know instead of YouTube'ing the reset like Kyle did, because at this point I have zero confidence that either of these guys know what they're talking about. I proceed to Advanced Auto for the windshield wiper they didn't have, so I asked the man for a price on the special million dollar light I need. He says "a 2010 Prius has LED lights, a 2019 Prius MAYBE needs H. I. D. lights but no way this car needs it". He comes back with a regular old bulb, tells me I've been through enough and let's me leave since now both lights work properly. Driving home, this misinformation bothered me because, what if I had agreed to let them fix it? So, I call corporate back. I get someone as nice as Stephanie who said this is all completely unacceptable. She asked if John, the regional supervisor, may call me 10.31.19 to discuss & maybe help me out for my trouble. Terrible, terrible, terrible service. I wish I could give 0 stars. If you are a female and choose to go DO NOT GO ALONE. They WILL take advantage of you. I went because my car had a front end issue, I was told the struts needed to be changed on one side and my headlight was out. I came back the next day to pick up my car and the sloppiest job was done. My headlight was not placed back properly, my hood wasnt closed (which could have been a terrible outcome), I still felt and heard the problem on the right side and they charged me almost $400 more than I was originally quoted.As I looked over the receipt I realized I was charged for a bunch of work I did not ask for or approve! When I brought it to the managers attention, the mechanic who worked on my car blamed it on me and said it was like that when they received it (it was not and i had pictures to prove), he then proceeded to curse me out and call me out of my name. He wasnt reprimanded because "that was his last day anyways" like that changed anything. They gave me a small refund which wasnt a refund because I never approved of half of the "work"/charges anyways plus another customer received the exact same amount for a refund while I was there. Coincidence? I think not. They kept my car another day and told me they would have another mechanic look over it. The next day they could not perform the work on my car because the mechanic "broke his leg" which left me out of a car again! Finally the next day, they supposedly "redid the job" when I came to pick up the car I heard ANOTHER NEW sound. This sound supposedly was coming from inside the tire according to the manager but he did not hear it during his test drive because they are not allowed to go past a certain speed which made no sense and was an excuse because I heard the sound at 20 mph. The sound or problem did not exist until they touched my car. All in all, they took advantage of me, I was cursed out by an EMPLOYEE, I was out of a car for almost 4 days, I'm out $700 and my car is still NOT fixed. So what did I pay for??? The "managers" do not seem to be qualified and the corporate office is not too in tune either being that they gave me a number to a regional manager who no longer even works for the company! The nature of my business was tire replacement and wheel alignment. I spoke with a gentleman on the phone who gave me a price quote and also recommended I come in that day and that he would give me an employee discount. It seemed the price was right for the job, but but the service was absolutely horrendous. For the job I spent nearly 4 hours waiting, when I was originally told that it would "be quick". After the tires were replaced the "mechanic" came to me and told me that it was ready, and that he did not do the wheel alignment. I asked him why he did not do it, and he assured me that I would be able to drive hundreds of miles and then I could come back tomorrow to have it fixed. They were not closing for sometime, and so I was curious as to why I would have to come back tomorrow for a job that was serious and should've been taken care of that day. While I was being held, there was another gentleman to my side being helped and was trying to have a flat tire fixed. The mechanic told him that because of the nail in his tire he would not be able to fix the tire is flat and that he would need to pay for an entirely different tire. In my experience mechanics have been able to fix flats with a patch or some kind of rubber material to just get them going for the day. But at this particular business they seemed a verse to the idea, requiring that anyone with my tires have to purchase new tires. All in all, this was absolutely terrible customer service and I would hate for anyone to come back here. If you need your tires replaced on your car fixed please dear God look elsewhere than the dump. read more

I brought my car into Mavis to have an oil change done. After paying and getting in my car, I saw the driver side seat was pulled all the way back. Ok, standard for anytime anyone has worked on the car. I go to pull the seat forward (electric), and the seat doesn't move. I immediately go back in to alert the staff, who comes out and takes a look. I get told they will have to reach out to their regional manager. 3 days later I get a call back saying that the regional manager says they aren't liable. At that point, I call the corporate office and log a complaint, and an hour later I get a call back from the regional manager, ARCHER. He asks me to bring the car in to have it looked at, and afterwords, he tells me that the cable attached to the motor snapped, and it was due to wear and tear and they are not liable, but if I buy the part, they would install it for free. That's all well and good, but the replacement part is 600 DOLLARS. At this point, over the next 2 weeks I go back and forth with corporate and ARCHER, who I eventually get on the phone again, where he ultimately tells me that they will not take responsibility. Keep in mind, I have called Mazda about this, and they said it was not a standard issue, and these cables do not break due to wear and tear. I do not know what happened for sure, but what I do know is the seat worked when I dropped it off, and it did not work when I picked it up. It is absolutely disgraceful that ARCHER refused to take responsibility for what his shop did, and just as bad that the Mavis "customer service" refused to do anything about it (ultimately passing the buck that they had no ability to do anything). A billion dollar company telling a family around the holidays they can go screw and have to pay $600 out of pocket. At the end of the day, they don't give a damn about their customers and it is pretty disgusting Oh and P.S. You might be reading all the positive reviews and wondering how bad they can possibly be? Well, they offer discounts on services if you will give them a positive review, so you can bet that a lot of what you see is BS. read more

I see a lot of bad reviews but i go here all the time & I've never had a problem. I get my brakes , tires & alignments done here and I never had an issue! Everyone is super friendly I always ask for neil when I go because he gets the job done in a timely Manner ! If he's super busy I'll wait if it's something important but if nothing serious I just come back the next day! He's honest & tells you if you REALLY need something done. I applied for the mavis cc & it's super easy just swipe for the service that day and I can pay it off in the future! Let that sink in... fourrrrrrrrr hours... and a near argument between two co-workers in front of customers... this place needs to be shut down and closed permanently. 8am to past 12pm..... first car in the place... never again for mavis this was the last chance . Gordon and his team are just awesome - the friendliest and most honest guys you'd want to meet. I was raised by a wrench head father who did all the work on my cars for the cost of parts. When I moved to Rahway in 2010, I was most definitely spoiled when it came to my car - and incredibly worried about getting ripped off. The first time I brought my car into STS was for a tire. After shopping prices in the area, they were the cheapest for my car at $75 (brand new tire). My boyfriend and I were immediately happy with the treatment we received from the Manager, Gordon. He was friendly, personable and professional. We were so impressed, they were our first call when we started having problems with the brakes. Let me rephrase that: we had been having problems with the brakes for a little while but we were finally at the point where we HAD to do something about it. In fact by the time we brought the car in, we needed all 4 sets of brakes completely redone. The price was good and the work was outstanding - very fast! We've been bringing our car to this shop ever since - for anything from big jobs to oil changes. The only thing we aren't able to bring the car in for is electrical work - which is a shame. I really wish I could make this the sole place I bring my car. If you're looking for good work at fair prices, please give this shop a call. I've been using STS for oil changes, tires, and minor work for a few years now. I just brought my Jeep in for an oil change and tire rotation. When I picked it up, the steering wheel, gear shifter and door handle (basically anything that the mechanic touched) were left with a thick coating of dirt that was disgusting. This has happened in the past and I've usually just cleaned it when I got home, but this time it was too much. Come on Gordon, what's going on? You guys can do better than this. read more

Horrible customer service, made an appointment last week for today at 10:15 am dropped off the car at 10:00 am was told the car would be ready at 12:00 pm ( 4 new tires and wheel alignment), walked home . Walked back at 3:40 pm (45 min walk each way) to find my car in the same spot I left it in the lot . Gave me a bs excuse that they where tied up from the holiday weekend and my car was next . But meanwhile no one called me before my appointment or during my time waiting to let me know. Walked out with no tires but 2 pounds lighter from all the walking, wont be going back again . Well let's see , I booked an appointment for 4 tires to be put on. I also added an oil change. I was there at 12:40pm to drop it off. The gentleman also said they will look over the car if I need anything else and do a curiosity alignment check. Fast forward to 4:40pm I had a buddy of mine drive me over there expecting the car to be done i see it on the alignment rack on the ground. I parked and called at 4:45 pm to get an update on my car (it was downpouring) said it was on the alignment getting checked and I'll get a call back when it's done. 5:05pm it gets pulled out. Still no call. 5:30 I walk in to pick up my car, didn't think it would take this long for 4 tires and oil change and an alignment check. Finished the paper work, pay and then leave. First thing I noticed I don't see an oil mileage sticker and the tpms lights on for passenger front reading 1psi weird but okay. Go inside about the sticker and the light no one said anything about it needs a new sensor. I asked are you sure or did it get broken when take the tire off I know that happens. Ed Goes back to the tech and asked comes back and says no it's dead happened when trying to program. I asked again you sure it's not broken it's okay with that I would pay for that so if I go to another shop they are going to tel me it's dead not broken. Ed said yes. I said okay and left drove to quick check on route 1 noticed a clicking noise in the front noticed that the front driver wheel has weights on top on weights which was hitting my caliper. Drove back and called. Ed brought it back inside and showed me that the sensor was okay and rebalanced, after I walked away it was weird because it was the passenger side not driver side. Just had a weird feeling, I asked my buddy if I could use his lift, noticed the oil filter was dripping it was loose, noticed the front tires had 5 different weights on it. And had my buddy checked the tpms sensor well it was broken had to pay 50 something dollars to get it fixed. Had him look over the car because the car is my fiancé and my daughter is in that car. So no I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone like how I was recommended this location. I just want my money back on the sensor and that's it cutting ties on this location. read more

We brought my car here for a flat tire. I got my car back with no tire issues, but the TPMS light was always on afterwards. They told me the sensor would have to be replaced, which I opted not to do, although I had no issues with the sensor before my flat. Brought it in a second time to get the check engine light checked, not sure if they got oil on a belt or something, but my car would squeel for awhile once I started it. Would have brought it back but I was able to buy a new car. We brought our other car in for a flat (again, closest place) and they recommended new brakes. While it's there we figured we might as well get it done. A part broke, so a new tire turned into a 3 day waiting period for a new part to come in. 3 stars because everyone was very nice and they hooked us up with a rental due to breaking the part on the car. -2 stars because we wouldn't recommend getting any further work done here. It seems like when we bring a car here, something else on it breaks. So maybe they aren't the best place to get any major work done on your car. read more

They said they would have my car done by the afternoon on a Saturday for an oil change. I dropped it off at 10am. They didn't even work on it when I went to pick it up stating they got busy. Pretty surprised by the other reviews, however I understand cars can be sensitive and very different. However my experience here was BERY pleasant and surprising. I mean that and do not trust people at all. I just got brand new brakes and rotors and a month later they were still screeching. I needed a rear tire and I needed to figure out what the noise was. I walked in the manager Robin was awesome. He was very helpful and said don't worry about anything he would take care of it. Typically my worry is mechanics have most say and you HAVE to trust them because if you knew better you would do the job yourself. However, they put my new tire on and one of the younger mechanics came out and i saw him say something in Robins ear which had my neck hairs go up and was like "here we go let's see what they are going to say I need." I apologize because it was the opposite! He stated the brakes were safe and everything was right and the screeching was just the material and would eventually wear off and he told me a brand to get next time. That was when my perspective changed and I realized these were honest men who could have easily told me I need all new pads (I would have said ok too because I really though there was something wrong.) After that I overheard they did oil changes which was my next stop!! I asked them to get the job done and they did a new tire, tire balance and a oil change in about and hour with no appointment. I will definitely be back, you NEED an honest mechanic and I appreciate these guys. read more
