I was in need of 4 new inexpensive tires on short notice so I gave Mavis Discount Tire of Cobleskill a try. They had the tires I needed in stock and were able to get me in on a Sunday which was great. I arrived at 11:00 and although there were a few cars ahead of me they had me out in 1 hour and 20 minutes which I found to be reasonable. Mark at the service desk was very helpful and personable. Ethan, the service Tech, was hustling and while working on my vehicle was still jumping in and helping his team briefly. Overall I had a good experience at Mavis. As always with any business, we as consumers must stay vigilant and factor the positive and negative reviews, note the number of reviews versus the overall volume of vehicles going through this business on a given day or week. read more

Five stars!! I am so impressed by this place. I showed up without an appointment, with an emergency tire issue on a trip from Boston to Cooperstown. They fit me in to the schedule, chose a conservative strategy that saved me considerable money, and handed back the car in perfect repair. Desi even knew exactly how to get the warning light off the dashboard and had his assistant re-set the lugnuts after a brief test drive around the block. Great value, great service. I wish I lived nearby as I would never use anyone else for service if these were my local people. P. S. They even directed me to a fabulous local bakery for the 45 minutes that all the work took. I Called to make an appointment on Sunday talked with Austin. He said only opening is for Friday at 2pm. Dropped truck off at 1:15 pm did some errands with wife. Came back at 4:30 not done and I'm still sitting in parking lot at 6:30 as they finish up a quick tire swap and skipped alignment. As I had grocery's in the trunk with frozen and dairy items. Thanks to the Mavis Team and great customer service with white lies the milk was no good trashed it, and ice cream melted. But my bar s hot dogs were still good so I won on that I guess. I have bought tires here last year spent around $1800 for my truck tires and they were over inflated and wore out the tires because they were over inflated. The manager said that's common with Ram's. I called BS on that it's the unskilled tech that put them on I bet. How many ram owners have overinflated tire issues on rams? Feel free to answer that one. So here I made an appointment with some tires I scored with 800 miles on them because I was hoping to get 2 years out of a set of $1800 tires and alignment I had done last year. Was told a couple white lies while I waited. I'm sure they kept pushing my truck to the bottom because the sale ticket wasn't $1000 or more. I guess it's time to go back to Firestone in scotia or maybe try Monro or Walmart down the street. Seeing how I have bought lots of tires from this facility over the years and they couldn't do my truck as was scheduled by Austin. Very Poor customer service and poor craftsmanship because this set of tires is under inflated. It's such a shame at the lack of good customer service with someone with an appointment. Now if I bought tires there I would have been in and out within an hour or so. But why would I do that? The set I bought last year wore out from being overinflated for 6 months before I realized it. Also do not get the hazard warranty because that's a scam too. I had a nail in my wife's car tire I paid over $1300 for from this place. They said they couldn't plug it the tires had some serious tread life on them. He prorated the tire he said couldn't plug. Tires were $240 dollar tires. My warranty cover like $25 of the tire. Then they got it back with warranty on the new tire. Lol!!!! If that isn't a scam then I don't know what is. Also the receipt I got wasn't the normal Mavis receipt it looked like a printed receipt and the second page had holiday pizza code on the back. So I bet that's where the $180 went to if not at least I didn't spend $1800 for tires put on by under qualified techs. Enjoy the pizza read more

Went here to get a tire and they tried to over charge me $100 dollars over the initial price. Luckily I got the same exact tire a month ago so I knew what the exact cost would be. The guys name was andrew he has red hair. When I called them out they were seedy and didn't say a thing and just put it back down to the price it was supposed to be. Make sure you check your receipt here because they will try to jip you. They lost a customer I will never get service here again... disgusting behavior. read more

The only reason I'm giving this business a 1 star rating is because I'm forced to do so, otherwise they would get negative 10 stars!!!! I made an appointment to have my snow tires mounted and installed which I have been doing here for the last 3 years and when I showed up for my appointment the manager on duty gave me a "song and dance" about that I would be better off leaving my vehicle and coming back in a day or two. They were behind because of all the walk ins and were still working on vehicles from the night before. So my question to Mavis is why should anyone bother to make an appointment? And why don't you have enough personnel working to accommodate the traffic in your store??? Liars and rip off artists We have brought my cars here for years have spent quite a bit of money here. My daughter and I brought her car in for a rotation on her tires that we had bought at Midas. We recently had the brakes on her car completely done by a garage down where she goes to college that my family has done business with for years and we know well and have a great relationship with. When we went to pick up the car, the guy at the desk tells us we will need to do the brakes soon. What?????? I tell him they are just a few months old and he is like, oh well yeah, not right away. The next day my daughter is driving her car and low and behold the brakes lock up on one side as she is driving home to Long Island. Shortly after the other side locks up. She brings it to the shop where the brakes were done, they take off the tires and show us that the guide pins on the calipers have been intentionally bent. Are you flipping kidding me? I can't even tell you how pissed I am. You put my daughter's well being in danger to make some money, thinking we are too stupid to pick up on your dirty tricks? We will never come back to the Cobleskill Midas or any other Midas shop for that matter. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. read more

Be careful here. We had a tire get punctured. My husband took it in to be repaired. The tire was on my car that has 8000 miles on it and it is one year old. Mavis told my husband the tire needed to be replaced! We went to McCarthy tire which they repaired right away. read more

I brought down 2 wheels and bought tiers to be mounted and balanced. Asked for new valve stems to be put in. After picking up the tires I realized the charged more per tier then they originally said added extra fees I did not ask for and charged me for new valve stems. The valve stems were never replaced 14$ and the tiers were not well balanced and beed was leaking air. To get it fixed I'd have to pay again. 20$ for tier repair and pay different shop 30$ to get them right. Won't be back there again read more

I am giving this place a 1 star because I can't go any lower. I have a 2008 Toyota corolla. It has received all the required maintained every since I owned it. I purchased tires from Mavis in April 2014, and they have less than 10,000 miles on them. they are a 50,000 mile tire. Mavis demanded that I do an alignment every time I changed the tires. My car has gotten 2 alignments in the last year. Today I went to take the snow tires off and found that my car wouldn't pass inspection with the summer tires on it. My boyfriend went back to Mavis and explained that we just bought the tires and they hadn't been on the car very much at all. Mavis told us that we needed to buy 4 new tires and replace the front and rear struts. Grand total $1005.00. I don't have that kind of money, so they told me to get one of their credit cards. I refused service and took my car to another dealer. My car was looked at and I was told that the car was out of alignment. He said there was no way it could be the much out of alignment if it was done at the beginning of winter. My boyfriend also called the Toyota dealer and ask if my car could need struts. The dealer said most cars last 100,000 to 150,000 miles and my car has a ways to go till then. They ask about the wear on the tires and agreed that it was consistent with being out of alignment. My Boyfriend called Mavis back and told them what Monrow and the Toyota dearer had said. Mavis Went on for over an hour (on the phone) about how they were right and the other places were wrong. They refused to do anything about the tires unless we did the $1005.00 worth of work that they were demanding. It is clear to me now that Mavis doesn't know what they are doing. If I didn't know better I would be thinking they work on commission. As for my tires, I am just screwed and Mavis deserves every word I have written here. First of all You don't scream at your customers, and second you admit when you screwed up!!! To anyone wanting new tires, don't go to this Mavis in Cobleskill, NY. They will sell you anything they think you will buy, but if you have a problem, they won't honor the warranty on the tires, they'll tell you other stuff is wrong when it's not. Buyer beware Update: on April 21 I took my car to another mechanic who I trust. I got new tires and they aligned my car. Imagine my horror when they told me Mavis didn't align my car ever. I have at least 2 bills where I was charged for an alignment. I still have the original nuts from when my car was built. It was very clear they had not been touched by Mavis. No alignment was done by them. How sad that they have to rip people off to make money. I have reported this fraud to the better business bureau. read more

I brought my car in to get snow tires put on, i also needed brakes and rotors. They preformed a wheel alignment without my permission. Did refund me my money for that. They replaced 2 tire sensors, my TPS light was on. Light never went off i was told i needed to replace the other 2 sensors at another $150. I filed a complaint and they replaced the other 2 no charge which fixed the problem. Beware they preform services on your car without your permission. The manager also creeped me out he tried to give me his personal number in case i had any other issues and advised me not to call corporation again as it makes him look bad. I'm sorry maybe if you did the work right the 1st time i would not have to turn you in. I will take my business elsewhere in the future read more
