As they requested, I called customer service to try to resolve the issue. They said I shouldn't have been charged for part of it, and agreed that I should be able to cancel the warranty I didn't want, but that I needed to talk to someone in corporate who would call me back. They seemed understanding and pleasant, but said that since some time had elapsed since the service, they couldn't resolve it. I called four more times before the Regional Training Manager called and left me a message just to call him back. Six more calls to him, and he called but didn't leave a message. Several more calls to him and no response. An absolutely awful experience, and terrible customer service. After about 40 years of loyal and trusted patronage, first with STS and then Mavis, I'm done with them. read more

Bad business and rip off. Sent my girlfriend here for two tires to get mounted and balanced that i ordered online and stated no alignment. I was out of town so my girlfriend goes. Long story short they sell her on a control arm replacement (2015 vw passat) now if you don't know about cars there are two bushings made of rubber and one was a little torn not needing to be done and NOT needing a whole control arm. So this stress her and show her BS pictures of the slightly torn bushing and say its un safe to drive. So she can't get a hold of me on the phone and gives them the green light to do it with the tire balance. Part it eventually needed-control arm bushing $5 Part they replaced, whole control arm that they priced at $475!!! Excuse me? Not including labor which is actually a scam because the part is a MOOG branded arm which is less than $60 for the whole arm. Keep in mind the VW control arm from the dealer is $220. And a $200 wheel alignment when now the steering wheel is not straight, and i bet they charged for a 4 wheel alignment. Now i freak out and she leaves a review, corp promptly calls her back trying to make her DELETE THE BAD REVIEW and offer a $200 BS discount at only their stores! Hahaha!! So she talks with this guy and brings up the price of the part and that it was high pressure sales tactics and he replies in a cocky manner saying their parts are the highest of quality and some more BS. So your parts are better and worth more than 2x OEM VW parts? No thats a scam and high pressure tactics. So then he hangs up on my girlfriend. And here we are with me leaving this review to better show the public. And no i will not delete this review and i hope someone competent sees this and reaches out to me and not my girlfriend and have some concrete explanation to this pricing and high pressure sales tactic oh and also lies about a BS part that i could have got from VW for half the price. Not to mention the alignment that no one needed or asked for at another $200. Went in for tires to be mounted and left with almost a $1,000 bill on a car worth maybe $3,500 makes a lot of sense right. Edit: cowards here won't even face or call me but had time to go out of their way to call my girlfriend to remove the review and waive a meager $200 gift card to Mavis at her that i threw in the trash. You scam artists are to chicken sh!t to even answer me read more

I want to give a big thumbs-up to Mavis Discount Tire for standing behind their work and warranty. A few weeks ago, I purchased four new tires, rear shocks, and an alignment. Within a few days, we started noticing a stiff banging sensation in the rear when hitting potholes. I brought the vehicle back to Mavis, and they quickly diagnosed the issue -- one of the new rear shocks was leaking. Without any hassle, they replaced both rear shocks promptly and at no charge under the warranty. The entire process was smooth, professional, and stress-free. The local staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with, which really made a difference. It's refreshing to deal with a shop that truly stands by their service and takes customer concerns seriously. Highly recommend Mavis Discount Tire for both their service and their warranty support. read more

I went in for a routine oil change, I've trusted them with for the past 3 years. This time, they told me I needed a brake fluid change and claimed it should be done every 3 to 4 months. That immediately sounded off, especially since I had my brakes serviced less than a year ago. I trusted them and went ahead with it, thinking they wouldn't risk losing a loyal customer over something like this. But after getting home and doing some research, I realized it was a completely unnecessary service. What makes it worse is they never told me the price beforehand. What should've been a $120 visit turned into a $370 bill. The funny thing was they tried to tell me my new windshield wipers were old and needed to be replaced as well. After 3 years of loyalty, this is how they treat customers. Shady at its finest. I won't be going back, and I'd recommend others think twice before trusting them. Look somewhere else if you care about honesty, and quality. read more

2/12/26 I got a synthetic oil change and tire rotation from Mavis in Barnegat, NJ It cost $137 and I was a bit shocked. An hour later, I went online to see if that was standard cost and saw a digital coupon for $20 off the oil change plus free tire rotation which would have brought the cost to around $80 which seem to be ballpark for that service. I called back and was told the digital coupon needed to be presented at the time of service and that I shouldn't expect the discount without the digital coupon. Makes sense but perhaps they could have been a bit more understanding about the $60 difference 2/13/26: After speaking to HQ, Mavis has honored the coupon and rectified the issue. Thanks to Andre at HQ and the people working in the Barnegat Mavis read more

To keep it simple, I'm a young female who walked into a tire shop was overcharged $60. Had to fight for my refund from the manager. He insisted the price was correct. My reservation made online said otherwise. The customer service skills are non existent. Was told by a rookie "mechanic" I needed two other services performed. Two things they shouldn't have even been looking at while my car was there for JUST tires and an alignment. Not to mention both repairs were just done two weeks ago but nice try. To top it off, it's as if they have never put tires on a Volkswagen before considering every single cap that goes over my lug nuts has been drilled out and cracked. Will be contacting corporate for this one. Don't waste your time or money there. Wish I had gone elsewhere. read more

Mavis prices are fair, their service is great and their customer care is always top tier.

Haven't had any problems there front desk polite I have noticed depending on who you get to work on your car some are quicker than others

I went in for a scheduled oil change and tire rotation. Everyone was professional and courteous. After driving my car and getting home, I attempted to check the torque on the lug bolts. All 20 were warped. The following day I went back to the shop, speaking to two persons at the front desk. No one else was in the lobby. Both persons were professional and courteous. These people were advised all the lug bolts were fine before the tire rotation. However, they declared the bolts get like that from weather and corrosion. I replied, do you understand that the bolts were fine before service and now a 19mm socket no longer fits on (and I was never informed of this before driving)? Anyway, my name and number was taken and allegedly someone is going to call me. Please note, after speaking with a dealership, two parts stores and doing an AI review, it was unanimous that impact wrench usage and settings caused this issue.... read more

Had a flat tire last night (it was at 2)..used emergency tire kit/slime that came with car. Brought car to Mavis this morning for a patch. Told them we used the kit/slime..1st they tried saying we over inflated tire to 40..nope..dashboard and gauge said 35. Then they said they can't find a leak, yeah cause we used the 'slime'..their reply..oh yeah I forgot. They asked so you want us to clean out tire and look for leak? At the point..NO...I DONT TRUST YOU!!! I'm a woman and they tried to say I over inflated and assumed I had no clue what I was talking about AND bottom line...they didn't want to clean the mess of the slime!!!!! Very poor customer service read more

I have been a customer of Mavis Tire for many years now - over multiple locations. I've been exclusively going to Barnegat NJ location for nearly 5 years now. Just this Thursday (3/17), we called to make an appointment to get one of our cars in for an oil change. We said we would bring it in on Saturday and if they could get it done Saturday or Sunday that would be fine, as long as it was done by noon on Sunday. At 12:30 PM on Sunday we called to find out the status of our vehicle, and they told us that it was next in line and would be done soon. Three hours later, at 3:30 PM, we called them back again and our car still had not been serviced, but they told us to come at four to pick it up and it would be done by that point. We arrived at Mavis at 4:15 PM on Sunday, to only find out that our car had not gone in yet, and they were only bringing it in when they realized that we were there to pick it up. Additionally, when we got home, we realize that there were scratches all over the back of the trunk of our car. It was almost as if someone with keys or zippers on their sleeves had been leaning up against the car throughout the course of the day. Aggravated at this point, we called the customer service line at Mavis corporate, and they offered us a $35 credit - all they could do to make up for an entire waste of a weekend without a car. They clearly have no capability of being able to provide customers with what they need, even after they completely messed up the relationship. I am very disappointed in the service that has happened here at Mavis, it's gone completely downhill over the course of the last year. Perhaps it's new management, but we will not be back here. read more

Beyond disappointing experience! I was told I needed front tires. They didn't have the size and said they'd order them. I had the tires installed the same day and didn't think to check them assuming they'd be correct. Next morning I realize they put the wrong size tires on the front of my car. I went back to the shop and they lied and said they had told me that they had put a different size tire on. They then said they ordered the right size but must have been sent the wrong size. Why would tire experts ever do this? You never put a larger size tire on the front of a sports car. The fact that they did this knowing it was wrong and hoping to get away with it since I was driving back to Massachusetts is unbelievable. Now I'm stuck waiting days until they get a shipment in. Never again! read more

Last December (12/2020), my daughter needed front tires. The Mavis Discount Tire store in Barnegat replaced the two front tires, did a wheel alignment, replaced the front brakes and did an oil change. Now it's April 09, 2021, and my daughter told me the car was shaking and pulling so she brought the car back there. The new front tires, with less than 5000 miles on them were down to the steel belts. The manager tried to tell her these were not his tires, and that this was the fault of a bad wheel alignment. And he wanted to charge her full price for two tires and an alignment. I immediately went down there and had words with the manager. I told him he was not dealing with a woman with no knowledge of cars now, and that for tires with less than 5000 miles on them to be down to steel belts meant that the tires were either faulty, retreads, or the alignment was done completely wrong. They ended up pro rating the tires after a heated discussion, and charging me $218.92 for two new tires, a wheel alignment, and an oil change. I was glad that they pro rated the tires, but in all reality, the tires should have been replaced at no charge when they had such a low mileage on them. They were only 4 months old, and were down to the steel belts, and they just did the alignment in December. Most tires are guaranteed for ten's of thousands of miles. Just as an FYI, the manager lied when he told me that the tires only have a 3,000 mile warranty. That is pure BS. That store in Barnegat just lost a good long time customer. I will also be relating this to all my friends and family. This is inexcusable. The work they did was substandard, and the car was dangerous to drive, and the manager in that store was anything but apologetic about this situation. In fact, he was rather indignant about this. That sort of customer service is inexcusable, and not at all up to the quality I expect from this chain of stores. read more

Shop gave one price over the phone. Once the car was towed there, we were told a completely different price after they tried to upsell the replacement of another tire (mind you 3 of the 4 tires were just replaced at the same shop 1 to 1.5 years ago. When asked about why the price changed so much, the excuse was that we must have spoken to sales representative on the phone who was not aware of the current inventory. Stay away from this place. read more

Oscar at the front desk was great. Got my car handled quickly and efficiently. Competitive pricing.

My car got a flat tire and I called Mavis at 5:45pm and even though they close at 6pm Oscar had me not only bring in my car - but gave me a great deal on a new tire and they put it on fast! Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommend. read more

Made an appointment in advance for an 8am oil change, waiting on site. At 9:50 they took my car in for its service. No one at the desk let me know that I was sitting there almost two hours for nothing, with my thinking the car was already being serviced. What is the point of making an appointment? Where is the customer service? This site has really gone downhill the past year, all new staff. read more

Yesterday I brought my vehicle in for an oil change. (Second time). It was nice for once to receive a quote over the phone and have it be true to what I was quoted. I also observed how Cody was with other customers and he truly knocked the ball out of the park with his professionalism and demeanor, even with a not so nice customer. I will be using this establishment from now on. You don't really find honest mechanics, in my opinion and experience, like Cody and the ready of this staff. Also, the mechanic who worked on my car was efficient and the wait time was under 30 mins! Thank you Cody and staff ant Mavis of Barnegat!!! read more

My tire went flat. Didn't have a spare and I have bought all my tires at mavis in Barnegat and I paid the tiny bit extra to get the warranty on them, had the car towed there this morning. Received a call all fixed and under warranty didn't cost me anything. Thank you! read more

I've been going to Mavis on West Bay Avenue in Barnegat for many years even when it was STS Auto. I used to pay $26 for an oil change last month I went there they charged me $46 for the same oil change and the guy that changed my oil stripped my oil pan plug so I developed an oil leak. So I called today for an oil change and specifically asked for conventional oil and the man on the phone old man that would be $54!! I said are you sure because I just want conventional oil not synthetic and he said yes. So needless to say I will not be going there anymore for the overpriced and poor service they offer it's a shame because it was a good location to where I live. It's sad because when it was STS I got good service there and the people were accommodating. You take a look at how downhill they went since Mavis took over the little things like how clean the waiting room is they took the coffee machine away and some of the people there I do have attitudes as if we're bothering them. I know I'm just one person out of many but feel this way and there are people that love the place that's fine but I'm just voicing my opinion and my experience. One other experience I've had with them happened about a 2 years ago went in for an oil change everything was fine till I got down by the Parkway and I smelled oil burning so when I had a chance to pull over I open the hood and the technician forgot to put the oil cap back on the engine so it blew out oil all over the engine compartment. I should have known then find a new place to get something as simple as an oil change and now the price of $54 for a conventional oil change is absolutely unacceptable. read more

**SCAMED ALERT***WARNING They changed my oil and stripped the screws to the pan and did not tell me so when I went to have it changed at the dealer the very next time I was informed of their wrong doings and that a temporary plug was installed which is a liability for the dealer to do the oil change. Clearly they tried to get one over on me....brought it back and dealing with headquarters!! read more

Front desk guy was very nice and fit my car in at the end of the day. Jokes on me because they spilled oil all over my engine. Didn't tell me and while very pregnant I drove north only to pull over because smoke was coming from my engine, I couldn't see and it was coming in my air vents. It was 930pm and raining and once again I was heavily pregnant and I had to pull over into an empty parking lot to check it out. Once it had cooled and I popped the hood I saw oil everywhere. For weeks after I'd have to drive short distances until the oil burned off and coincidently a week after this oil change I ended up needing $800 in repairs when there was nothing wrong before I took it to Mavis. DO NOT GO HERE. Disaster. read more

12 noon appointment at the Barnegat Mavis. Told I would get a call in 1 1/2 hours. Walked 1 1/2 miles to my Mothers house. Waited 2 1/2 hours then called them. 4 tickets ahead of me. At 4 1/2 hours I went back and took my car. Terrible service. Never touched my car. read more

I called ahead of time to mount a tire to a rim and install it on my car, they quoted me $20 for the wheel and i took it to them. After 30 minutes to an hour, they finished, however, they ended up charging me $50 for the job. They said "well because of labor it's $50 instead of $20) I brought my own tire and my own tim, all I needed was installation, they wouldn't accept anything less not even the price they quoted me for over the phone. I never went here ever again from that terrible experience. TL;DR I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Came here the day before and they told me it would take about an hour and $200 to fix my truck. It ended up taking over 4 hours and costing more than $500. Price was outrageous and could have gotten it done for half the price elsewhere. Don't go here!! Save your time and money! read more

Folks sorry to say but this outfit are a bunch of c$@#!&. If you go there for the so called express oil change be prepared to spend over an hour waiting. When the vehicle is finally finished you are given a laundry list of all the things they say are wrongful with your vehicle. The kicker is when you leave and drive your vehicle you will start to notice things going wrong with it. It is of my opinion only that they deliberately sabotage your vehicle so you have to return to get it fixed. AVOID read more

I had a terrible experience here. I had an issue where my brake lights would remain on when the head lights were on. I dropped it off for an oil change and asked them to check I out. When I came back the manager told me that it was because someone had put the wrong bulb in so they changed the bulb and itnwas over $125. Over $100 to change a light bulb. I took a minute outside to think and went back in and said that I had never asked them to do the work and that i never would have agreed to pay that price. He deducted a few bucks but still it was $75 for an oil change and to change a bulb. And I never agreed to it. He tried to make himself out like he was doing me a favor and kept repeating that I told him to just fix it when I dropped it off... like the price wouldn't have made a difference. It is a 93' Corolla that is only worth about $300. read more

WHO DOES THAT? ill tell you who... people who know its not nice to try and cheat people out of money. i will keep coming back to STS for all my tire needs and hope people with similar great experiences leave good feedback here to fix the number of stars a low review gives them. keep up the good work STS i am a customer for life. read more

They can get the job done I suppose. But items were stolen from my truck and they refused to own up to it. I know that most places say they are not responsible for lost or stolen items but when I have tires put on my truck and an expensive center cap is stolen, that was there when I dropped it off, they should have owned up to it. The manager Rich and and mechanic Anthony, who worked tirelessly on our truck took such good care of us.They were able to correctly diagnose our electric problem and because of them, we were able to get to Cape May and enjoy our last vacation before our first baby arriving in December!
