Actually 3.5stars We were told to arrive by 4:45 and the itinerary said for photography However no one arrived until 5:05 and then the check in process was started at 5:10. Drinks were good. Show was okay, food was good and plentiful but nothing spectacular. We did not care for the Christmas portion of the show , very corny. Would we come back? No, I would try another place, many seats open and too pricey, the best part of the show was the fire guy. Ambiance was beautiful 4 stars.

I can't say enough about how wonderful this was to attend on our last night at the big island. The performers and the setting were top notch. The photographer and service staff were really nice. My only complaint which can't be helped- the flies were a nuisance but they did have staff fanning the food trying to keep them away. Overall a 9/10!

Presenting Royal Court.

We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the location, the selection and abundance of food, and the performances were top rate! We definitely recommend this luau (a bit pricey, but worth it) and plan to return.

I've experienced quite a few Luau's and this was the best. The food, setting and show were all fantastic.

Ask the Community - Mauna Kea Luau

Do they have the pig presentation, when they do a ceremony while taking the pig out?

We went in March 2021 and due to COVID restrictions they did not offer the pig cooking presentation. There was no buffet either. They served the meal plated.

But surfing in the beauty of Hawaii is an experience of a lifetime and one I wanted to share with my kids/family. My son was up for the adventure. We met our instructor, Daniel, at the surf van that is parked on the road, near the guardrail, just south of the little blue church. He informed us that it was high tide, and there wouldn't be many waves and offered to rebook us for another time. It was our last day of our trip, and we would not be able to make it for another day. After much thought, my husband convinced us just to go out and make the best of it. I'm so glad we did. We got out into the water, paddled out. During the our time in the water, I got roughed l up a bit by a set that rolled one on top of another, but Daniel was there keeping a watchful eye, was awesome to help paddle tow me over a bit further away from that area. Daniel was able to pick out what few waves came by and get us set up to catch them. He is so easy going and encouraging. He continued to give us tips for board positioning. We were able to catch a handful of waves between myself and my son. Standing up and riding a wave was pure magic - and the highlight of my trip. I wish I would have taken photos of it all, but I was too busy enjoying living the moment in real life. And my son and I were able to even catch the same wave together - that was the best! Thank you to Kona Town Surf Adventures and to Daniel for sharing the surf of Hawai'i. And when Daniel comes to Arizona to follow his dreams at UTI, we'd be happy to be his desert ohana.

Happy to report that four and the four had a GREAT time! Our instructors (Daniel and I missed the gal's name) were definitely a highlight. They let the kids go at their own speed but didn't treat them like babies. I've taken surf lessons in other cities and these were awesome because they cut right to the chase. Definitely more time spent in the water, which was appreciated. Their instructions they emailed ahead of time were spot on. Couldn't say more great things about our experience. All four kids ended up getting up on a board plenty of times, despite less than ideal Hawai'i conditions (gray, rainy, etc). They could have gone for another two hours!

Due to hazardous weather conditions, the tour we were on should never have left the harbor. Not only were the ocean wave conditions reported by the coast guard to be clearly dangerous, the driving hard rain made the conditions completely unacceptable not only for safety reasons but for customer comfort. Despite my several attempts to point this out to the staff answering the phone one day prior to the tour as well as the captain of the boat prior to departure, they blocked my attempts to reschedule or refund the trip in spite of coast guard and national weather service small craft warnings, beach closures and other tour operators canceling their tours under the same conditions. After waves broke over the bow of this small craft, the captain aborted the tour and turned around. After an unusually leisurely return to the dock, I called and asked for a refund. Later we were told based on our return time, we had received the full tour and a refund would not be issued. After escalating our concern, a senior member of the company emailed us and said we would be issued a full refund. Over six weeks later they have still not issued us a refund. We had to file a dispute with our credit card company.
