Found this place off online research and checking Yelp reviews. Glad we did. It's a great alternative to the big hotels. This was exactly what we wanted. It's low key away from Lahaina, which you can easily drive to, but offers everything you need for a relaxed stay. Wish I knew about the in unit washer/dryer so we could've collectively packed less. The room itself has a full kitchen, which made for an easy stay with dishwasher and closet full of board games, cooler (we bought one with, not knowing) and more. We hit up Costco from the airport after picking up the rental car and had water bottles for our cooler on outings and breakfast in our room a la Costco for the week. Pool chairs and check are hosed off and wiped down by staff every morning and our balcony view of the ocean was great. My son lamented on the sad looking gym but I told him people don't come to Maui to hit the gym. What I didn't like was the the rooms had no shampoo, and front desk wasn't helpful on that. But that is a minor hiccup. Easier to make a run to Target but harder with a couple kids in tow, or a larger group, when you're trying not to double back, etc. Will definitely come back to stay again in the future.

The views!! And even a rainbow!

This place is great for families with a pool, shuffle board, and a large lawn. The 10pm quiet time is respected and I love that! The two bedroom unit sleeps 5 very comfortably (4 adults and one child.) I also love that there is in unit washing machines!!!

Don't stay in 115B! Missing tiles in the bathroom. Mold already growing in the walls. V-trips doesn't care they know the property is nice and it's hard to get another place. Guess is 114b has mold already. Maybe even 215b since it's below it. Would advise against all those. Condo is outdated. But the pool crew and landscaping crew work hard I'd say that.

There are Pros and Cons to the Maui Sunset yet fundamental to any condo hotel or timeshare in maui is having clean bedding free from previous guest urine, sweat, and even blood stains. After three days we decided to wash the sheets in the master bedroom and the pull out couch and we were disgusted by housekeeping and management allowing the urine and sweat stained pillows and mattress covers to remain on the beds after multiple guests stay. We asked for clean pillows and bedding and they couldn't accommodate until the next day. If you stay here because of the central location please look at your actual pillows and your mattress and I hope you find a cleaner experience.

Amazing Condo. Just Beautiful Grounds & well maintained. Centrally located in Kihei. Great Rooms Great Pool. Free Parking. Walk to the beach in 2 minutes. I will definitely be back here soon. The Best affordable Condo ! BBQ Grills cleaned everyday. We cooked almost all our own food on our vacation saving a ton of $$$. I love Maui Sunset. And you will Too. Aloha Nui Loa

I've been coming to Maui and staying at the Maui Sunset for as long as I can remember. Mainly because my grandmother loves this place and is partial owner of a timeshare. This place offers the perfect low key getaway with a very nice quiet island vibe. The interior of the rooms are very spacious. The showers are a bit small and the living room can use a bit of upgrading. The facilities are great. Nice gym, tennis court and pool areas. Most importantly, a well maintained lawn on the whole property makes it nice to walk all the way out to the beach with no shoes needed. Did I mention the sunsets are pure gold here! Take a look!

We stayed in a two bed and restroom for a family of four for five days. The rooms have starting kitchen supplies with in unit washer and dryer. Plenty of parking with location great spot on the beach with shore access. Also walking distance or short drive to nearby grocery store and restaurant. My family was able to wake up with beach view and sunsets on clear days. The facility has pool access which is clean and disinfect daily with different outdoor games to rent on site. You access to outside showers when you walk the beach or the pool area. Overall would recommend this place and location to friends. Your location is middle of Maui with twenty minutes drive to OGG airport with driving distance to other activities in Maui has to offer.

Four of us (two couples) stayed for a week at Maui Sunset. There was a lot to like about it and a few things that could certainly make a stay five stars. **Condo good: The condo was nice. The kitchen had been upgraded with new countertops and stainless steel appliances. Everything in the kitchen was great. The washer and dryer were clean and worked great. There were plenty of beach toys/supplies for us to use. The TV in the living room was a Smart TV. The small "gym" on the first floor was serviceable. **Condo bad: No TV in the 2nd bedroom. There were six patio chairs, but only two had cushions. No soap in either shower, only hand soap for the sinks. A/C units were all on 4 hour timers. Although we found some clever work-arounds to keep them on longer (wink, wink). Not nearly enough toilet paper was supplied for four adults for a seven day stay. New mattresses in both bedrooms and the murphy bed are needed soon. Our balcony offered a better view of the street than the ocean, but not all of the units can be ocean front. **The Grounds/Pool: Excellent. The grounds crew were constantly working to keep everything in pristine condition. Six community Weber gas BBQs were a great amenity and kept very clean. The pool/hot tub area was kept immaculate by the hard working crew. The water was always perfectly warm and sparkling blue. The bathrooms at the pool area were always spotless. Tennis courts and shuffleboard were very well kept also. The beach is just a short stroll across the grass. The complex is located within walking distance of a few restaurants and bars and the quaint Kihei Craft Fair. A $5 or $6 Uber can take you to even more. The sunsets are epic!! All things considered, the four of us were quite pleased with our accommodations. (Add that TV to the 2nd bedroom).

The view from our 3rd floor balcony was about the only nice thing about this place. That's sad considering we were told we upgraded to a better space (not sure why...perhaps overbooking of 1st/2nd floor spaces). First, the place was not clean...looks like only a quick cleaning is ever done as you can see buildup of dirt and gunk all over. The floor had several stains, dishes in the cabinets were not clean, the fridge and freezer were also dirty. The sheets were clean, but one had a hole in it. We saw bugs inside daily. Ants and several different critters were spotted and killed on a daily basis. The balcony furniture is also very run down. The chairs were stacked left inside for some reason. When moving outside and unstacking, I noticed one was heavily damaged and probably would have collapsed if I'd sat on it! All of the chairs had significant wear, with jagged edges showing. It was obvious that this was known to the owners as there was duct tape applied at one point to try to cover it up! An odd thing with the washer and dryer was that the washer was about half the size of the dryer (don't forget to buy your laundry detergent). You also can't use the washing machine when you are not there due to property policy, but the washer is ridiculously loud! So don't count on watching tv or taking a nap/siesta and washing a hiking clothes from the morning. Lastly, the air conditioners are plugged into outlet timers. Unfortunately, these timers last only 4 hours. This becomes a problem at night and early morning as the A/C shuts off and the bedroom heats up, causing us to wake up in a pool of sweat! The A/C was also the only thing to drown out the noise, as our 'upgraded' room was next to an exit door and trash shoot and a family of chickens on the other side of the parking lot. Been to Kihei 3 times, this was easily the worst.

I would give this place a 5 star but on our checkout day the cleaning people rushed us. We had a late checkout 12 which didn't get noted. Cleaning people came at 10:30. Waited for us to leave. Was awkward. But overall we loved our stay. The pool stays open late which my kids loved. Wake up and walk to the beach. We saw turtles and beautiful sunsets. We are a family of 6 and were comfortable in the unit. Definitely would go back and stay of given the chance

Found a great deal on Orbitz with a 20% off coupon ($854/total for 4 nights) for a Premium 1 bedroom with a partial ocean view. (We booked 2-3 months in advance) Super spacious with a great view of the BBQ area and ocean to our right. The grounds are impeccably clean and lots of friendly retired folks enjoying their well-deserved rest. Quiet and very comfortable with plenty of parking and a great location. We used the full kitchen one night to prepare steaks and found it very convenient to have plenty of pans, kitchen utensils, plates and silverware. We just needed to bring our own oil, butter, etc. Also appreciated all of the beach and shower towels available. We went down to the beach for a swim but the sand was super rocky and painful so we settled for the pool, which was fantastic. I don't think the beach here is meant for swimming... The staff is also very accommodating. We were able to do late check out with no problem. Overall, highly recommend! Note: If you're checking in on a weekend, don't freak out that the office isn't open. There are pay phones to the left of the office with instructions on how to check in and lock boxes with keys to rooms. Yeah... I freaked out... :-/

We enjoyed our stay at the Maui Sunset. I'd say it comes out as a solid 3 for us based on the unit we were in. Our unit was somewhat dated, but it was nice to have a closet full of things you might want to take to the beach (like chairs, coolers, a boogy board...obviously this would vary by unit). Each unit has a private balcony and also washer and dryer, which was great. The grounds are very well maintained with grills available and a very nice pool and hot tub. There is also a small gym and tennis courts available. Parking is free and the property does have a beach, although it gets a lot of wind. As the name of the property implies, you can witness some beautiful sunsets. We were very close to stores as well as some nice snorkeling and swimming beaches. If returning to Kihei we would definitely stay here again.

Loved it here! Unit 421A view from balcony

Would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!…read more Here's why. Stayed at the Koa Resort, unit 4G, 3bedroom, 2 bath condo costing ~$721/night for 7 days. The facilities are generally nice and well kept, the location is good for exploring Maui. Our unit though had its problems. The central AC was on the fritz and was in repair transition when we arrived, no notice. Each bedroom had a portable AC unit in it that took up room and was noisy. The resort staff wanted us to let workmen into the condo to do final repairs during our stay. Some of us were quite tired from fatigue from running a marathon the previous day and erratic sleep because of our second big problem. There was a rat in the condo! First signs were evidence of fruit on the counters being chewed and rat turds. Two of our group had seen the rat scurry by out of the corner of their eye, and one had felt it climb over them in the night. We called the resort staff and they sent over a guy who brought over 3 bait traps, 2 for mice (?) and one rat sized. We thought the rat was home basing in one of the owner's closets. So, put the rat trap in that closet and stuffed a towel under the door to trap him inside, if indeed it was in there. We packed most of our food in the refer and cabinets, but unfortunately an avocado was left out one night and was chewed on. Great! In the night, my son heard it digging out the carpet so it could get under his door and into his room. Then felt it crawl over him to get to the window. He waited patiently and actually got a photo of it. Yep, a good size rat. We asked for spring traps and we bought some peanut butter for bait. Mind you the staff never called to see if the bait traps had worked, no follow up. How common is this? Once we had the spring traps, 2 mouse sized and 1 rat sized. Why the mouse traps? We know what a rat is. Baited the rat trap in the afternoon with peanut butter and set it by the stove. Five of us were milling around the condo but not in the kitchen when 10 minutes after setting it, we heard the trap snap. We looked and there the little darling was in the trap, broad daylight. We got it! Should I send them an invoice for de-ratting their condo? We did not get any compensation by the resort for the rat or AC problems, though I did ask for a 10% discount. No such luck. Me thinks this is a common problem there. So, would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!

Well I later realized the pool closes at 8pm and I genuinely hadn't noticed the posted sign. An employee (an elderly haole man) came outside and yelled "GET OUT OF THE POOL!!" to which I immediately replied, "OK I'm sorry sir, we are getting out, my apologies I wasn't aware of the time" and we IMMEDIATELY started leaving the pool. Despite that, he continued yelling "GET OUT OF THE POOL!!" I am not kidding he yelled at the top of his lungs at least 5x more times. To the point that I responded that we were already getting out and had apologized, and that repeating it was unnecessary. His response was, "Well, you guys don't know how to read the sign, so you clearly need to be told several times." Wow. I completely understand the pool has posted hours and have no issue being asked to leave once I realized it was closed. That part was my mistake. What was disappointing was the way my 11 year old son and I were treated after we immediately complied. There was no reason to repeatedly yell at us or make disrespectful comments. Guests deserve to be treated with courtesy, even when they've made an honest mistake. I hope management addresses how guests are spoken to, because this interaction left a very negative impression. As a suggestion, it might help to automatically turn the pool lights off (if this happened we would have left immediately) and/or disable the gate keypad when the pool closes. We honestly didn't realize the posted hours and those changes would make it much more obvious that the pool was closed while also preventing situations like this. Because of this my family and I will never stay here again. There are plenty of other options just as good or better on Maui. TLDR: The pool closes at 8pm! If in the pool after be prepared to get yelled at by the staff repeatedly with disrespectful comments made to you and your children.

We were unable to stay in our original unit as another guest had made reservations the day we checked out. The second unit, Kihei Akahi, was also beautiful and was extremely comfortable. Paige and Samantha were constantly checking in on us and making sure everything was ok. I also wanted to mention the regular emails I received updating us on the hurricane situation and what to do, what to take and where to go just in case we were evacuated. Fortunately we were able to get our flight out before any cancellations. We may have only stayed in the other condo for 7 hours, but my mom was able to rest comfortable before taking that long flight home. I just want to say very much Mahalo to the entire team at Sunny Maui Vacations. You all are truly wonderful people who go above and beyond for your guests. Aloha and Mahalo

We returned in July 2026. Things are back to being a mixed bag…read more. The interior of our unit, and apparently most of them, have been remodeled to some extent. Yay! Apparently they got rid of the carpet everywhere except the bedrooms. We had a studio unit this time so we had no carpeting. That was wonderful. (The carpets used to be gross. There's no other word for it-- and I know keeping them clean is challenging in a tropical environment) they do provide a floor sweeper on rollers, but we did not find that to be very effective. A broom would have been more effective and definitely quieter. In the unit of us, the people decided to use the sweeper at about 6:30 AM and it was very loud. We found it doesn't pick up the fine sand that blows in very well. There are still a few weird quirks. We have an outlet that didn't work at all (unfortunately right next to the bed) a light switch in the kitchen, which appeared to be possessed, and plumbing fixtures, which were pretty low budget--loose, leaked, etc. But all in all, things worked pretty well. There was a chemical smell in our room which persisted for the first week of our stay. Perhaps a pesticide treatment? We tried to keep it aired out as much as we could. The air conditioning units have been replaced! At least in the building were in. Hallelujah! Quiet and effective! The grounds were in great shape. The pool was well kept and clean. They were quite a few kids, but everybody seemed to obey the rules, which was great. The flies at the pool. Yep. Still a problem. Unusually aggressive flies, and if you sit in the sun right after you get out of the water, you could have 100 of them trying to land on you. Not an exaggeration! I'm not sure where they're coming from. We have friends staying about a block from here and we don't have that issue at their pool. I'm mystified-- since this was our experience last time as well. And we never have them when we sit out on the balcony, even if we are eating dinner! Here is where we have the biggest gripe: the "owner update." It was so upsetting this time that I just don't know if we can stay here again. Worldmark, like many other timeshares, is not doing well financially. We were told that this would translate into our heirs being responsible for an ever increasing (15%/yr) maintenance fee, even if they did not inherit our shares. Of course *if* we bought more for $42,000 and convert our shares into the "new kind" we could prevent this. We immediately contacted an attorney who assured us this was not the case. But the whole thing just left a bad taste in our mouth. There is always an angle. They will always tell you that what you bought last time is no longer good anymore and you absolutely need to buy more. NEVER AGAIN. This is the first time we ever stayed in the studio. We think we prefer the one bedroom but, we realize this was our choice. I'll give you some information here in case you're trying to make the same choice. As stated previously, the studio has no carpeting. That's wonderful. It's quite spacious. The bed is a Murphy bed, which is the type that pulls down from the wall. That's kind of a mixed bag. There's no headboard so your pillows can drop behind it if you're not careful. You also can't really sit up in bed and lean against the headboard or wall because there's a big gap. I'm not really a fan of a Murphy bed, but it was comfortable. We also like the fact that the bed was in the back of the unit. In the one bedroom, it's towards the front of the unit, so you hear all the noise from the hallways, etc. We didn't have to deal with any of that. The kitchen was about the same size as the one bedroom as was the bathroom. The couch was more of just a loveseat for two people, but that was fine for us. So overall a little bit less living space but perfectly fine for two people. You wouldn't want to entertain guests or anything. The units are not quiet. If you have anybody above you, you will hear every step they take, and if there are children that can be a lot of steps and a lot of noise. If something falls on the floor, it will sound like it is right next to you. But I think most of us know that. I mean, this is definitely a family place, not a place for quiet. My suggestion would be to ask for an upper unit if this is a concern. Man, we love Maui and we love this area. We love the people that work at Worldmark. This place is not perfect, but they are clearly working on it. The entire owner update scenario is horrendous and I'm wondering how many people leave for a very bad taste in their mouth. It's so much worse here than anywhere else. I just wish some of these issues could be addressed.

Our unit only had an AC in the living room and just fans for the bedroom and a couple small nightstand cooling fans. We opted to stay in the living room with the pullout bed, which was nice and Chris with the AC as the bedroom was a little bit too warm for our liking. Can't complain the day was awesome. We had designated parking and there was a designated pool that we could use if we wanted to and lots of space to walk around on the grass. Couldn't really ask for more and would probably stay here again. The next time we go to Maui. Our unit did have a messed up dryer so we couldn't dry our clothes using it and had to hang them all and also quite a bit of ants but nothing too concerning overall.

There was sand and hair in the shower, which was not wheelchair or walker accessible. After a 5.5 hr flight, we didn't want to be displaced due to a complaint so I cleaned to the best of my ability. There was no place to hang clothing. When we did notify Vacasa, they said they would give me back the $270 cleaning fee I paid. Vacasa misrepresents the properties, and in my opinion, this was a health risk and consumer fraud case. I will report and provide photos. Bedroom closets were stuffed with miscellaneous items, vacuum, boxes, no room to hang clothing.

A special thank you to Shermila, the front desk manager. When the storm affected our plans, she was incredibly friendly, helpful, and able to accommodate us for an additional night in the same room. During what could have been a stressful situation, she made everything much easier for us. We really appreciated her kindness and professionalism. Pros: The staff throughout the property were very friendly and welcoming. The resort did not feel overcrowded, which made for a relaxing stay. Our room was modern, spacious, and comfortable, with a full-size kitchen that was great to have. There are a few areas that could use improvement. Housekeeping could benefit from additional training and attention to detail, as the room cleaning was not as thorough as we would have expected. The patio furniture also appeared as though it had not been cleaned in a very long time, possibly since the property opened. Unfortunately, it was dirty enough that we did not feel comfortable sitting outside and enjoying the patio. Another disappointment was the food situation. The website indicates there is a kitchen on site, but there are actually no restaurants at the property, including by the pool, and there is no real breakfast option. There is a bar across the street with limited hours that serves bar food, as well as a grab-and-go area. We received a coupon for the grab-and-go, but the options with the coupon were extremely limited. We were only able to order a premade McMuffin-style breakfast sandwich, while the other items were not eligible with the coupon. Despite these areas for improvement, we are still giving our stay five stars because of the friendly staff and, most importantly, the way Shermila and the front desk team took care of us during a difficult situation with the storm. That level of service made a lasting impression and was very much appreciated.

The staff very friendly. I was a last minute reservation in March because the place I booked was closed due to the flooding in March 2026. They were able to accommodate me for a week. The grounds are beautifully done. Love the abundance of Plumeria trees. So many were of the Singapore variety. We didn't eat there, as we had all our favorite spots to go to. And the full kitchen in our suite was utilized. But they did have a large bar in the pool area. And another eating spot on the beach. I also wandered into the quick bite and was surprised by the variety. The pools are beautifully done and very inviting.
