You would think that the staff would get there early to prepare for their divers. Unfortunately, they opened behind schedule. We didn't get into the water until around 11 am and were told we would start at 9 am. It's one thing to be "Laisse faire" while in Hawaii and another to be completely disorganized & unprofessional. They were both. They didn't have enough sizing for equipment so I was the only one without booties for the dive. We were asked if we had a ride to the dive site as well and were not told that we would need one. They made it work but we almost felt like an inconvenience. We've dived all over the world and ultimately, Maui Dives is by far the worst experience I have had with any dive company in Maui and the world. We did enjoy our guides but that does not out weigh the overwhelming negatives that come with diving with this company. read more

Husband and I wanted to try out scuba diving during our anniversary/birthday trip to Maui. Checked out a few spots once arriving, and decided on Maui Diving Scuba Center. First conversation with Rich provided me easily with all the questions we had. After forgetting to call back and confirm that we wanted to book before they closed at 5pm, Chantelle called us to inquire if we were still interested, which was awesome, because we thought we had missed out! Arrived at the shop the day of and check-in was easy and quick. Gentlemen that ran the shop were friendly and kept us laughing. Signed up for an introductory dive since we were only going to be there a few days and prices could not be beat. Cameron was our instructor and he was awesome. Extremely precise, professional and patient; this was definitely something that I needed. Spent some time on land going over all the basics and what skills we would be required to go over under water before our dive. All the information was very thorough and easy to understand. After a 10 min drive to the beach, we went over everything on land again and proceeded into the water for skill work. Let me tell you...breathing under water is an experience. One I will for sure be practicing, the skill time in the water was not enough for me! That being said, Cameron was extremely patient and probably would have stayed out there all day if needed. Pack and tank a bit heavy on land, but if you are fit, you'll be fine. Hubby went while I returned to shore, said he had a blast, and was ready to go again right after he returned. The scuba was amazing I had so much fun, the only reason I give it 2 stars was because of their miscommunication. I had never been diving before and was very excited. I asked the instructor if I could bring my go pro camera and he said of course there is no issue. The day of the dive they said that I can't bring it. That's a little messed up, It's one thing to say no, it's another to say yea, then say no. The cherry on top was when the instructor said he is taking video and it will be $40 to buy it. I'm sorry but that isn't a way to treat customers. Like I said I loved the scuba but I won't go back because of what they said. I was looking forward so much to filming. I have wanted to do it since I was about 8. It's just a huge let down. read more

These guys are top notch! I did two separate dives at two locations. It was $140 plus tax, you really can't beat that. The instructor's name was Will and he was fantastic. We got to see sea turtles, rays, a massive rare sea lion. Will really knew his stuff and was always there with a helping hand. I wish I had a few more days on Maui because I'd do a few more dives. I did my certification in Lahaina with Zach and it was awesome!! He was excited about everything he taught us, but remembered that we were newbies and kept reinforcing the basics throughout. I felt safe even when we had to do skills test (flooding mask, emergency ascent, etc) and he was awesome at pointing out the sea life around us. It was a great experience. read more

My husband and I got open water scuba certified with Maui Diving and we could not have asked for a better experience from the timely and receptive pre-dive communications on the phone or via email with Rich to our very experienced and wonderful guide, Mike, and finally we got to see some amazing and often rare sightings of octopus, frog fish, turtle, sponge crab and group of spinner dolphins! I had stopped around for certification courses in Maui and found that this outfit had the most competitive rates. All 4 dives were at Airport Beach but each dive felt unique because we were working on different skills each time and seeing different things. My husband and I had a blast scuba diving back in November 2011 (another overdue review). It was our first time and even though it was challenging in the beginning, it was a such a great, different experience in the water. We took the intro to scuba diving and we had a great scuba diving instructor, Kevin Schilling, who also brought Kim. He was very experienced, professional, and he had a great sense of humor. My husband and I were a little late to our meeting but when we arrived there the staff was really friendly and we were totally not rushed at all. Kevin and Kim were patient even throughout my trying on of several different suits as it was difficult for me to determine my size.My husband is not a good swimmer and is a tad terrified of being in the ocean, yet it was just as memorable for him. He ended up really enjoying the dive as much as I did. We didn't see a sea turtle this time but we got the chance to see a lot of sea life, fishes and reefs. Our instructor even spent extra time giving us tips and more information about scuba diving at the end of our swim. Kim was also awesome, friendly, and helpful. We will definitely go back when we return to Maui. Hopefully we can get Kevin again. read more

We rented our gear from Maui Diving and had a great experience. It's a small shop and Rich and Chantelle were both very accommodating. They had very reasonable prices on everything. We rented two full sets of gear ($140/week) and then several other pieces for our dive buddies who owned some of their gear but not everything. Their tank cards are such a good deal. Unforgettable great experience! My girlfriend and I went to Maui for two year anniversiry on 2011 Thanksgiving. It was our first time to scuba dive and we had a wonderful time there. Our instructor, Kevin, is a really funny guy with patient and experience. He guided and helped us when we were nervous and didn't get used to the pressure at the beginning. Soon we start to enjoy the water and wonderful underwater view. Compare to other "have-to-do" activities like snorkeling, luau, and bike tour that we also had in our tight schedule, this scuba dive experience was the best among all! My girlfriend and I decided an open water divers certification would be great to use on vacation. Our instructor Mike has been teaching over 15 years and has certified over 4000 students. I would not use this company, at least not during Covid times. Not one staff member wore a mask at any point. Having used another dive company during this trip Lahaina divers, which every staff member wore a mask while on the boat and during check in. I booked through Maui diving and pretty sure we dove with a different company because the boat and everybody's shirt said prodivers.com. So not sure if Maui divers is just a vacation planner that fills space for other companies or what, but we chose Maui divers not another company I never heard of before and feel like they should have mentioned that up front. I also want to mention that we booked for Molokini crater and turtle town. They took us to Molokini crater and then told us they were taking us to a great sight, when asked about going to turtle town, they said we want to take you someplace you can't dive from shore someplace special from a boat, then took us right by there dock. I'm sorry we wanted to go to turtle town as we booked. It wasn't a weather issue or anything I understand that happens sometimes. it clearly was a time issue because when we got back they told us this boat Is going back out so we are going g to quickly transfer the gear form this boat to another boat and you can gather it from there in 10 minutes. Of course diving in Hawaii is amazing but this company I would not use again. read more

We booked a 2 tank dive for Molokini and Turtle Town. No disappointment here. What a great team, Scott, Paul and Captain Jen! It had been about 2 years since we had dived. They were great allowing us our space but kept a careful watch on us checking to make sure we were all good. The dives themselves did not disappoint! Wow, large Manta Ray! The took their time to point out things we would have missed. They used slate boards to communicate the species we were seeing. Visibility was 100ft + Much more affordable than other dive options as you aren't paying for transport and food on board you don't want or need. They did have cookies, fresh pineapple and a variety of granola bars. Would not even consider another diving company. They were awesome! read more

My wife and i just finshed our open water cert. Bottom line with ANY shop is that you have to have an instructor that works with you and your learning style. They matched us up PERFECT. My wife did not think that she could do this and spent the first 20 min in the car. The end of the first day I didn't think so either. We had 1 private day with Mike and the whole story changed. She successfully completed all the requirements for the cert. Mike claims that he "can fix anything underwater"-well this is actually true,except for the wet suit zipper. Even though I was the only one who requested to go dive that day, he still scheduled for Kevin to guide me. I have to agree with the two other reviewers, I was there during my last trip to Maui, I usually try to pick the smaller "family" dive centers, and this one really exceeded my expectations. I was very impressed with Bia and John, and the instructors were great, especially Zack (but the other instructors were helpful and nice). The school itself is small, but their rental equipment was in top shape, and the sites they go to are allot better then the larger clubs. Do check out their shore dives, too many of the large centers skip the very nice spots to shore dive in Maul. If I had to pick my favorite dive school in Hawaii, this will be it! read more

The people that run this shop are first rate very friendly and relaxed. Bia and John are really nice people. Not crowded when we went but i think if it had been crowded then the experience would have deteriorated quickly. Family atmosphere. Our divemaster thought the white tipped reef shark at Mala is his pet and we all were half-expecting this dude to get bitten by harrassing and crowding this poor shark. Nothing but great things to say about this dive center. Called the day before to make reservations. All the boat dives were booked but Jessica assured us that we would enjoy the shore dives and we really did. When we got to the dive shop, they had all of our equipment ready to go. We just put on our wetsuits and we hit the road. Mike was our guide for the day and he was so kind, friendly, knowledgeable and just fun to dive with. Safety was his main priority and he gave us in depth briefings prior to our dives. My boyfriend is very new to diving so Mike's briefings put him at ease. My favorite dive was the Lahaina pier dive. Absolutely breathtaking! Mike showed us where all the sea turtles lived (must have been 25 or so). They swam all around us. Mike took pictures to document the dive. We also saw two reef sharks. There was just so much marine life on this sunken pier. I'd definitely recommend this dive. Thanks Mike! We had a blast. read more

We have been diving with these guys for at least a decade. I got my certificate through them and so did my son. They were great. Nothing beats learning to dive in Hawaii. The shop is hard to find but well worth it. Mike and Rich, and TJ are excellent dive masters.
