First, let's start off by agreeing that if you are in need of a tow truck, you're probably not having a good day. For whatever reason, you're day just isn't going the way you expected. You're not getting ice cream, you're not buying new shoes, you need a tow truck. Ugh.
Last week I was stopped at a stop sign at a busy intersection in Eden Prairie, waiting for a clearing in the traffic in order to continue my journey. As I was sitting there I was treated to a show, a show in which I had no desire or intention in becoming a participant. But that was about to change. Very quickly.
As I'm watching the cross-traffic whiz by, I watch a west bound high-end German sedan make a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming east-bound high-end Japanese sedan. This isn't going to be good. As you would guess, the Japanese sedan slams square into the passenger side of the German sedan. The German sedan then became a 3000 pound sliding projectile, aimed straight for my 11-month old full-size American pickup truck!
So I quickly change from being an audience member of a scary show and witness to a horrific accident, to an active participant. Crap. Not the way I wanted to spend the evening...
The good news, with all the air bags deployed, the German and Japanese sedans looked like there was a family of Michelin Men inside, so no serious injuries to any of the occupants. The cars were destroyed, but all the occupants of both cars walked away.
The steel bumper of my truck put up a valiant fight, but ultimately lost, being pushed back into the front tire. So my truck, with relatively little damage, wasn't drivable. Crap, again.
So now on to my review of Matt's Auto Service:
Eden Prairie Police ordered up tow trucks for all of us, and two flatbed trucks from Matt's Auto were on the scene quickly. The damaged Audi is dragged up onto the flatbed and what's left of the Lexus is hooked up behind the truck. Away they go.
The driver assigned to retrieve my 11-month old baby was very friendly and courteous. (I'm sure the other tow truck driver was too, but I didn't speak to him.) He carefully maneuvered my truck onto the flatbed, making sure not to cause any more damage than was already present. After my truck was cinched down and secured, the driver provided me with all the pertinent contact information, where my truck was going, when I could come visit it, and directions to the closest bar to drown my sorrows (OK, not that last part!). But this driver was a pretty darn good guy!
Now on to Matt's office staff. I had the same type of experience when dealing with their office staff. The day after the accident I contacted the office and talked with an associate regarding insurance adjusters and releasing my truck to a body shop. I don't often get into accidents so I'm not all that savvy when it comes to the process surrounding situations like this, so I'm sure some of my questions were elementary. She was as friendly and helpful as could be! All my questions were answered.
When I arrived at the lot to retrieve my personal belongings I met yet another lady in the office. I watched her patiently deal with a couple of rather, ummm, challenging individuals picking up their vehicles after being impounded. (Why are people like that? Your car got impounded for whatever stupid thing you did. Don't be an idiot and take it out on the staff.) Unfortunately, I suspect they see this on a daily basis.
When it came to be my turn to be assisted the lady was very friendly and willing to help and answer all my questions. I only had a few but she answered each with a smile.
I loaded up my belongings, confirmed with the lady in the office the next steps for my vehicle, and went on my way.
Matt's delivered my truck to the body shop as promised. No issues to report.
I have to say I had nothing but positive experiences each time I talked with Matt's employees. The situation behind why I had to talk to them in the first place kind of sucks (face it, accidents do suck!). But because of these experiences Matt's number is now in my cell phone. I hope I never have to use it again, but if I do I know my vehicle will quickly be taken care of by a staff of professionals. read more
