I am so overdue in writing a review for Matt, Linda, and the Matthew's Catering Team. They catered our wedding on 9/4/2022 and it was the best decision we ever made. I feel like no written review could do them appropriate justice--you must experience it for yourself. Matthew's is SO MUCH more than a catering company and they become more like friends to us. We knew immediately after our initial phone consultation/menu design that they were going to be the highlight of our wedding. Matt is so passionate about cooking and that comes through with the versatility of the menu creation and the favors of the food. Four months later and my guest are still talking about how our food was the best wedding meal they ever tasted!!! (do yourself a favor and put the mac and cheese on your menu). Linda- she was an amazing coordinator and friend to us throughout the process. She made us feel so comfortable and was there to help us throughout EVERY STEP of the planning and execution and was only a call or text away. She smiled every time I told her I changed my mind on the set up or design and was happy to accommodate any request. Our wedding went seamlessly because of Linda's direction and guidance. She took care of everything so we could enjoy our day without interruption. She is the kindest and most amazing person to work with. Matthew' Catering staff- they were so incredible and took great care of our guests. From the set up, breakdown, serving guests they didn't miss a beat. Numerous guests commented on how they were the most attentive and kind staff they ever encountered at a wedding. Don't waste your time....apparently my party wasn't important enough of an event....find another small business to support.....this one was fine treating my husband and myself like we didn't matter....we went down to the storefront for menu advice for an already scheduled party and received nothing....after finding our lost paperwork and calling for assistance the counter staff offered us an apology pastry and a phone call the next day. The phone call the next day cancelled all services at this time and blamed us, calling us disrespectful and leaving us completely dumbfounded by the whole experience. read more

My wife and I hired Matthew's Catering to cater our wedding in July of 2016. Simply put, hiring them was one of the best decisions that we made. We were told by countless guests after the wedding that the food they ate was the BEST food they have ever had at a wedding. We were fortunate enough to have met Penny while touring what would inevitably become our venue; Geer Tree Farm in Griswold, CT. Penny was exceptionally friendly and helpful from the very beginning and really made us feel comfortable during a pretty stressful time. My wife and I wanted to have three stations that reflected our favorite foods/heritages. We worked with the chef, Matthew to create a completely customized menu that included a gathering table, passed hors d'oeuvres, fresh salad, three stations (Summer Grill, Mediterranean, and a "Taste of Puerto Rico"), ice cream bar, S'mores station, etc. Matthew was incredibly creative with his suggestions; he is truly passionate about what he does. Not only does Matthew's do catering (at a completely reasonable price), they also provide complementary wedding planning. We found this immensely helpful. Matthew's coordinated the alcohol and bar services, linens, and contacted all of our other vendors to make sure our whole day went completely smoothly. Penny was there at the rehearsal and the day of the wedding and even stepped up to fill in where the JP fell short. It was almost 100 degrees on our wedding day but the staff worked tirelessly from start to finish. There was also a completely random fifteen minute torrential downpour and I remember seeing servers hustling from tent to tent while everyone else was staying sheltered under the main tent. The entire staff was friendly and very professional. The gathering table was GORGEOUS. The hors d'oeuvres were EXCEPTIONAL and UNIQUE. As I mentioned earlier, the food was EXCEPTIONAL; and there was SO MUCH OF IT!! They even made an AWESOME ice cream bar happy in the summer heat! I really can not say enough about Matthew's Catering and the staff. As I look back, I'm so happy that I did not spend double the price for bland meat and steamed vegetables and potatoes. Matthew is supremely talented and he and his staff are truly deserving people. If you want people to REMEMBER what they ate at your event -- Matthews is the company to hire. *UPDATE* : Our Maid of Honor was so impressed with the food at our wedding that she hired Matthews to cater hers! I was referred to this caterer by the manager of the venue we found and we could not be happier! The service we've received since day 1 has been spectacular. They are there for you every step of the way to help you plan your day. Not only is their food spectacular, but their prices cannot be beat. They will work with your budget and plan a spectacular, creative menu that is reflective of your tastes as a couple. I cannot recommend a caterer anymore. Honestly, Matthews catering was the easiest decision in my wedding planning process. They take care of just about everything about the big day. They coordinate all the rentals, alcohol if needed, staff, set up, break down! I was elated to work with Lin and Matthew for my wedding and was not only satisfied but they went above any expectation I had. They were able to take so much stress off of me for my wedding that I wasn't worried at all how the day would go! I used Matthew's catering for my son's wedding rehearsal and he and his fiance used them for their wedding the next day. Fantastic! The food was outstanding. We had their barbecue slider bar/buffet for the rehearsal party which was also the wedding venue. Everything was delicious. The "rave" was the pulled pork. The burger sliders were moist and cooked perfectly. Matthew also easily accommodated vegetarians in the group with portobello mushroom caps that were barbecued. The sides were excellent (cole slaw and another tossed salad). Prior to the dinner we had their garden harvest display with cut veggies, dips, hummus, flat breads and crackers. We had strawberry shortcake for dessert. Penny made the night! Her attention to every detail is amazing. The servers that accompanied her were polite and very attentive. Everything was taken care of from set up to clean up. It is obvious that all those involved take great pride in their work. The prices for all of this are very reasonable. Their entire staff is easy to work with and is readily available throughout the planning and the event itself. The wedding the next day also had excellent food and the staff was as attentive and hard working as the night before. Everyone was pleased with the hors d'oeuvres and the dinner buffet. The leftovers were packed nicely for us to take home. Thank you Matthew, Penny and staff. You are the best!! I would recommend them without hesitation. Matthew's Catering did an amazing job for my son and daughter-in-Law's rehearsal dinner and subsequent Welcome Party! Penny was extremely responsive to all my phone calls and e-mails. Lin was the onsite manager during my event and did a beautiful job with the set-up and decor. She coordinated well with the venue and everything went smoothly. I cannot say enough good things about this catering service. From beginning to end Penny, Matt and the crew aimed to exceed our expectations. Let me repeat that, they didn't aim to meet our expectations, they wanted to exceed it. They were above and beyond in every single way. The service was top notch. The planning met my husbands OCD heart. The tastings were incredible. Penny made sure everything at the church went smoothly. And then she herded my ""cats" (you ever try to herd cats?) to keep everything on time so we could get down to the celebrating part. She did not blink at my non-traditional Greek reception. Just said, it's your day, do whatever you want. The food. Good god, the food!!! It was amazing. And they packed everything up for us to take home. My sister and her husband had their reception at Silver Oaks in Mystic. Penny was amazing. I first met her at the chapel the day before. I was familiar with Matthew's Catering, as I'd been to company events and holiday parties that they'd catered. I'd even hired them to cater my second son's graduation party, with wonderful results. So when my oldest son got engaged and announced that they'd found the perfect location for the wedding--Wickham Park--and wanted the food to be perfect as well, Matthew's Catering was our first choice. We met with owner Matthew Johnson to go over our choices. We had one guest with food restrictions due to gluten and lactose allergies, and instead of singling her out with one specially-prepared meal, he simply adjusted the menu to include items that were within her restrictions and delicious enough for everyone to enjoy. Richard handled all of the little details, like ordering the tablecloths, organizing the place settings, and even making sure the colors were just right. We were able to drop off the centerpieces, favors, name cards, toasting glasses, and other small items so important to a wedding to Matthew's Catering a week before the wedding, and everything was set up beautifully for us when guests arrived. And the master chef, Matt D., was dedicated to providing the best meal possible, presenting a display of fresh ingredients, mouth-watering appetizers, and sumptuous entrees. We had one wedding crisis. The rentals were dropped off at Wickham Park the night before the wedding, and the caterer from the previous night accidentally took all the dishes and tablecloths when they left. The staff of Matthew's Catering handled the situation quickly and discreetly, acquiring upgraded rentals in time to get everything set up and displayed handsomely, and our guests were none the wiser. Matthews Catering catered my wedding and I couldn't have asked for more. They tailored the menu to our likes and never said no to any of our suggesetions. They were able to work within our budget. The food presentation was delightful, displayed beautifully. We had stations for our wedding and the guests raved about the selections (NE seafood, carving, and risotto).
