First of all, if you ever get a postcard or invite to their Social Security seminar with dinner at…read moreThe Pineapple Room, make sure you call and GO!
The dinner is awesome - Hawaiian food with extras. Loved the mochiko salmon - outstanding and delicious! It is a lot of food, but not too much. The only thing that I didn't care for was the beef stew - maybe it needed salt, but I had so much other options, didn't matter. There were 3 kinds of salads - all good. The Chinese Chicken salad was everybody's favorite - with crispy fried chicken rather than shredded. The kalbi was good, as well as the laulau and had plenty other stuff and good old fashioned chocolate cake for dessert.
So, I figure we get a really good free dinner (you can bring friends) and then we pay the price with high pressure sales or sign ups, right? Nah, wasn't so. Nothing was sold, no pressure, no sign ups. Jordan Wong did an easy to understand presentation on Social Security - and I learned that I qualify for more than I had thought IF I file a certain way by a certain date. Cool!! Pays to be sorta old but not too old.
The MC was good - told some jokes but I already forgot them. Herbert, the owner of the company, talked a little about insurance and his take on the stock market. People started getting antsy because he talked a little too long, but that's okay - we were still very happy with such a nice dinner, and we figured the hard sales pitch would start, but it didn't! Everybody there was really friendly and easy to talk to.
Because they were so nice, I wanted to do a follow up meeting and indicated so on a form that I filled out. Terene did a call to see what day and time would work for me, and I went to their office 2 weeks later.
Terene is the receptionist and arranger and the kind of person that makes everyone feel so valuable and appreciated. Such a treasure, and you can tell that she just loves what she does.
They are all kinda religious but not preachy at all. I suppose if I had said, "Praise the Lord!" they would have become all excited and do "Amens" and "Hallelujahs", but that's not me and they are okay without having to spread the word. That's rather nice, I think.
I met with Todd and Jordan in a conference room on the 9th floor of the Ala Moana Pacific Center with social security statements and info sheet filled out. They asked a lot of questions about what I wanted and/or what I had in mind, then showed different scenarios if I did this, or that. The best choice was very evident, and I was taught a few tips on how to achieve the highest return. I was given a 12 page printout of my situation - pretty nifty!
It was very pleasant to share my goals and dreams for my golden years. Everybody should start thinking about what kind of life they want - start dreaming, then make a plan. Follow the plan and you will have what you want.
What is pretty neat is that Jordan and Todd will format my current financial picture, add in social security, mortgage payoffs, other future events that impact my cash flow/income/expenses so that I am aware of what may be lacking, or not, and chart it out until my ripe old age.
I left after spending over an hour with these 2 fine young men. As they walked me to the door, I commented that they didn't try to sell me anything! This was such a pleasant surprise and not what I was expecting. No pitches that I had to dodge or catch. No pressure to sign up for their programs. Actually, not really sure what they charge or for what fee services they provide.
It was quite a wonderful experience. I look forward to possibly working with these good people. If anything, sitting down and sharing my dreams with them helped me realize what I want in my old age. A life of easy luxury. How about you?
