I think its even a book too. The little girl, Ivy, gets a Christmas doll, Holly, and they're best friends for the rest of their lives living in the quaint, snowy little town of Mill Valley. I visited Toy Works in Fort Worth, mid morning with thunderstorms lingering in the air. Definitely not snowy Mill Valley. More like a late spring, Texas sauna. But I stepped into the toy shop, and all of my sweaty woes were washed away. The A/C hit me and the happiness of childhood was staring at me, right in the face. Toy works is full of boutique, high end toy choices. Puzzles, games, books, dress up clothes, bikes/trikes.. the list goes on and on. Every childhood toy item you can dream up is right before you, and most are on display for you to try and play with. You then get a fresh item in a box to purchase and take home. The cost of most items at this store is about a price different $12+ from what you'd pay on something like Amazon. Their items are pretty costly, but it does feel good to support local business if you are able to! I loved their classic section which housed a bunch of items from my childhood circa late 80's. The Calico Critters.... Le sigh!! I had these at my grandma's house in the summertime! I wandered around with no intention of buying anything, eyeballing the wooden toys, and the dress-up clothes, until I came to the baby doll section. I have two little girls (Almost 2 and almost 4) who love love love their baby dolls. I remember when my sister and I got our first baby dolls. We played for years and year. And I just couldn't resist recreating that memory for my girls. I stood in front of the doll section for a good twenty minutes to pick out the perfect babies, and decided on the Corolle brand. Made in France, sleepy eyes when they lay down, and smelling of vanilla. They're even machine washable. They run $46 at the shop, and come in several different sizes. They've been glued to my girls' side since I brought them home gift wrapped (free of charge) yesterday. Thank you Toy Works for creating a memory for for hopefully many years to come!

It's a fun trip down memory lane, though it doesn't fully capture the magic of the original stores from the 80s and 90s. The store is now franchised rather than corporately owned, which changes the feel a bit. Prices are on the higher side, and while there are some interesting and unique items, there weren't many Toys"R"Us exclusives beyond a Geoffrey the Giraffe pop. Still, the store is clean, organized, and has plenty to explore, whether you're a collector, a parent, or just a kid at heart. A nostalgic stop, but not quite the full experience of the original Toys"R"Us. The guy at the front door was really nice.

The shop is on the smaller side but filled with quality toys and even uppa baby products! Their prices are fair and competitive with other boutique toy stores in the DFW area. I stopped by here for their 10th Birthday celebration today. It was such a fun event! They had temporary tattoos, goody bags, snacks, and so many fun activities for the kids. All the employees were so kind and patient with my son. I purchased a gift for an upcoming birthday party which they wrapped free of charge! I'll definitely stop by the next time we're in the area. Harvey has launched this place to new heights and has been friendly to all involved (He is a great Dungeon Master for D&D, especially for the little ones new to the game). The place is kept tidy, and and all is organized in an effective manner for your comic searching pleasure. In terms of stock for things other than comics, they have a selection that I see as mediocre at best at times, though this is likely due to supply and demand, especially now considering everything going on. Necessary D&D minis were sometimes hard to come across even before this. Overall, the Multiverse is a great place to stop in my experience. Little bricks EVERYWHERE and in all sorts of bins on both levels. Also has so many totes full of bricks on shelves. They also have a LOT of the small Lego figurines. 4 stars for the staff, friendly, but shortly maned. We stood at the counter to purchase a few items for quit some time. 2 stars for pricing on the box items. Some of the items in this store had almost a 40-50% mark up. One item that we recently purchased at a box chain store was $20 more at this store than it was where we purchased it. EEK! They do have a lot of premade items in glass shelves, a lot of Star Wars items, all are a gem to look at, as it gives a better perspective of the actual size of the boxed items. Another point that should be recognized, this is a family owned store that sales Legos products, they are not an actual Legos store. Something to keep in mind when you purchase items at the given mark up. Being a specialty shop, they only pay the bills from the sale of Legos, and nothing else. It's worth supporting these guys to keep them in business. One thing they do have, is a build your own model, which is a great option for children parties and such. I don't recall the price, I did see some set pricing, but listening to another speak to the employees, it almost sound like weight or volume based on pricing. It's not like they can count each lego used to build the child specific toy. It's fun little store. Dusty, be ready for that.
