When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

Avoid this business--dishonest pricing and terrible service…read more I called at 5 PM on a Friday to get my sewer drain unclogged. I was quoted $378 plus a $200 weekend emergency fee. To save money, I told the dispatcher I would wait until Monday. She then offered to waive the $200 fee and send a technician out immediately. This turned out to be a bait-and-switch. They sent a technician without a vacuum truck, meaning he couldn't actually unclog the drain. Instead, he just cleaned a filter and charged me $168. If they had sent the correct truck in the first place, cleaning the filter would have been included in the original job price. It feels like they forced a dispatch just to trap me into paying a service fee, knowing they couldn't fix the actual problem. To make matters worse, the technician was incredibly unprofessional. He initially told me the visit would be $128, but after calling the office, he hiked the price to $168 and lied to my face, claiming he never said $128. He also seemed completely clueless and had to be walked through the basic steps of the job over the phone by his office. I paid the fee just to get him to leave and canceled any future service. I would give 0 stars if possible.

He asked to come early but still…read morearrived an hour late, started ripping apart the drain without a bucket to catch the water and then laying the nasty dirty pipes on our 6' long woven kitchen mat, rather than a blanket, a paper towel or even the tile floor. The snake did not work and actually got stuck for awhile but that's because the pipes were very bad & could not be unclogged as it was legitimately bad 70 yr old galvanized pipes completely corroded and blocked. So, after multiple methods & tries, I agreed that we needed to replace about 10' of old galvanized pipe with PVC and the basic older PVC drain components under the sink. Understandably, they could not come back until the following day since the scope of work had changed. The actual plumber (very nice guy, decent work, but VERY MESSY) scheduled his return for 8:30 the next day, and estimated 4 hrs of work for $1,100 + materials, tbd. As we were left without a kitchen sink, since he got us in for the next morning & was recommended by a friend and fellow plumber, I agreed to the high labor estimate, knowing it there was a chance that it could take more than 4 hrs and signed for the labor, while my wife spent 2 hrs that night cleaning our kitchen mat from drain grease. Next morning, I had to go to work so my wife took the day off. Midmorning, I'm getting texts from her asking for his number as no one had shown up and I had not heard anything. Again, over an hour late, but shows up and gets the job done in about 2.5 hrs. As he's leaving, he asks for almost $1,500. She says, ok, please just give me the break-down for the materials. He has to call the office, puts my wife on the phone with the brother who refuses to provide an itemized list of material costs. Plumber leaves, wife pays the agreed upon labor charge of $1,100 for 4 hrs that took 2.5, no questions asked. Wife says she will pay materials, even marked up materials, if she is given a breakdown (again, this was 10' of 2-1/2" PVC and a few fittings). Mind you, I'm an Executive Construction Project Manager for nearly 20 yrs. I receive an email with a list of random items, no prices, including boxes of rags, latex gloves, boxes of glue, etc. I tell wife to get a real breakdown before settling after already paying the inflated labor cost. My wife then receives a barrage of texts threatening escalation unless "agreed upon" material costs are not paid...but no materials were agreed upon and they refused to provide material details. I get out of work and start receiving the same texts...for hundreds of dollars of materials that they refuse to itemize. On top of that, the mess left was insane and I later found he left a 6" piece of old nasty piping in the wall that I had opened up for them, stinking up the bsmt, dripping old grease down the walls. Never again...talk about choosing their battles Talk about choosing your battles...and knowing when to stop arguing with customers.

AT BEST YOU WILL HAVE AN INCOMPETENT TECHNICIAN SHOW UP HOURS LATE AND CHARGE EXORBITANT AMOUNTS OF MONEY -- $695 FOR SNAKING A CLOGGED DRAIN. Full story: We called to get a clog in our kitchen sink drain line snaked. They said someone would come within two hours, it ended up being about 4 hours. He was completely incompetent and proceeded to get his snake stuck in our pipe, presumably because he put it up the wrong segment (bear in mind that I (0 plumbing experience) had spent hours snaking before hand with no luck, but at least had the snake in the right pipe and didnt get it stuck). With no way to fix it, he had to leave it for the night but assured us he would contact his dispatcher and get a plumber over to fix it. The next day comes and we set up a plumber for around 1pm. At 6pm, another drain tech, unaware of our problem shows up. He has no idea what to do and facetimes a plumber to show him the situation. Or course, the snake remained stuck in the drain. After getting passed off and put on hold multiple times, phone calls getting unreturned for the whole day, I finally got to talk to someone in management who said that its just on us to fix the problem that they caused. No recourse, no discount on a plumbing service.

The tech said there was a piece broken and he'll try to fix it so sink will drain but can't promise and with that the charge is $720.00. All he did was put it back together he didn't have to take it apart. I even used them before for outside issue last year! Plus he bent my pop up piece! Now I gotta stop my life again tomorrow for them to fix that! The tech was super nice but price for just that is ridiculous and this is not how I really wanted to say that. Cussing would be better! Never again! I'll shop around!

After calling and communicating that we have no oil to heat our home, the excuse from the supposed "men" that work there was that "a rock may puncture the oil hose". I have lived at my residence now, 20 years. When oil was delivered from other places, the hose on the ground was never an issue. Not only that, but I have also communicated that we do not have the funds to fill our oil tank from empty. Despite asking Valley Oil to come deliver to us at 1/4 of a tank, they insist that their monthly schedule would accommodate that. We have run dangerously low on oil all winter. Not to mention, the almost $700 bill to fill the tank has caused financial hardship on our family. My youngest daughter & I have been more than accommodating; going without oil, shoveling designated paths from the street... If us women can handle walking up the driveway & taking care of this then I would hope the workers from Valley Oil would be able to do the same.
