Matt's burger lab offers a great selection of burgers and poutines! If you upgrade to a combo the portions are unreal! My recommendation is the chopped beef. It was a bit greasy as expected but the flavors of the beef with the creamy cheese and the texture of the meat all worked so well together. We also got a the mushroom burger and it was delivered very nicely, not super messy and considering how stacked it was, fairly easy to eat. The poutine gravy here was a bit darker and rich than I was used to but it is addicting! Super flavorful and the fries were minimally soggy. When you come inside, you do go upstairs to order. They were pretty quick with your food, we waited no more than 10-15 minutes given we ordered three burgers with 2 upgrades to the special poutine. It is a fast casual spot and there are plenty of seats available. We were visiting so we walked but did not appear to have any dedicated parking in the area. I went to Matt's Burger Lab on Queen St. I was famished and the restaurant looks kind of interesting from outside. I went in and was surprised that I had to climb the stairs to order. I ordered the bacon cheese burger with fries and a drink. It took a while to get my food. I was surprised that I had to bring my food myself downstairs to eat. I wasn't too sure on how this restaurant operated. Was this a sit down restaurant? The hamburger was pretty tasty, but paying $5.45 for some fries is crazy. The service was very friendly. I think the men washroom was not working when I was there so they told to use the women washroom. read more

The mark of great service is well marked by how the restaurant deals with mistakes. We ordered two burgers - the Hawaiian without onions but with added mushrooms (extra $2), and an Oklahoma style as a combo with sweet potato fries and a water. Unfortunately, the kitchen forgot about leaving the onions out; which we did mention; but decided to just take them out instead of throwing out otherwise good food. The lady manning the till (and the only service person around), expressed her apologies, and then came back a few mins later without any additional prompting with a complimentary milkshake. The service did leave us with a smile, and turned around our perception. The menu is limited compared to burger focused places like "The Works", and the space is more focused on takeout than eat in, despite the interesting decor. You enter at street level then it's up a short flight of stairs to order. After you order you grab a table and they bring the food out to you. I was famished so I ordered the triple smash with a grilled hot dog on the side. 6 nuggets and habanero sauce on the side. The bun was soft, the smash patties were crispy and seasoned well. The habanero sauce had a nice spicy kick. Unfortunately the nuggets were trash. White spongy meat and not a spec of seasoning. I ordered a hotdog on the side. Good flavor but a weird texture. My son had the bacon smash and poutine but we got the Matt's poutine. He was happy with both. Overall a solid meal and I would return again but hard pass on the nugs. read more

Yummy smash burgers located in parkdale! We came on a weekday night and it was pretty empty, plenty of seats. The burgers were huge with onion rings inside. It was juicy and delicious, exactly what you want in a burger. The fries were also done so well, I would go back just for those!! Decent Smash Burgers, greasy but good! We got takeout and added a slice of marble cheese from our fridge. If you're able to pick up in person, be on the lookout for their sign outside $11.90 for burger, fries and drink is a better deal than picking up through Ritual. The shop is currently set up as a takeout operation despite having space for indoor seating. Prepare to go up a flight of steps to grab your takeout from the counter. Not very easy to stop your car in front of the shop, but you should be able to find some temp parking behind in an alley. We also tried a box of their poutine and something was off. The poutine fries were packed too tightly and were just soggy and greasy. I usually don't mind soggy poutines but something is off about the taste. So I wouldn't recommend that for takeout. Sometimes we still could feel hungry after a Smash burger but we both were left full after 2 smash burgers and most of the poutine still leftover. read more

Turkish owned. 100% halal. I had the bacon onion rings smash which I really enjoyed. The only thing is the beef bacon was a little bit tough by nature of the fact that it's think strip of beef so it was hard to tear it with your teeth while you're eating the rest of the tender Burger. Next time I might pull it out and eat it separately. I would recommend this burger. The poutine fries were a little bit bitter due to the potato skin still being on it. So that made it slightly unenjoyable. I wouldn't recommend it personally unless you like that bitter earthy taste in homemade fries. At the time they had a deal with the poutine and drink so I was happy to save a couple dollars there. My friend had the chicken tenders and remarked that it was so soft and that it "melted in her mouth". So the only thing is that the cash register is up a flight of stairs and the bathroom is down a flight of stairs, and small. This makes parts of this place inaccessible to people with wheelchairs or walkers and other assistive devices. I'm not sure if they are able to take your order and use a wireless payment machine. But you're out of luck when it comes to the down-the-stairs, small single person washroom for sure. Some street parking is available but limited. I am craving the burger and I hope to return soon. Okay, this was a treat! I had Bacon Cheese Smash with a side of onion rings. The burger was a perfectly seasoned burger topped with caramelised onions, pickles , and their lab sauce (awesome). The onion rings were perfectly crunchy but not overdone. To be honest, I couldn't think of anything negative about this meal. I highly recommend Matt's BurgerLab, and I will be back again. read more

It almost pains me to write this review during COVID when I know businesses are just trying their best to get by. But we ordered four chicken burgers via Uber Eats a week or so ago, and our burgers just honestly weren't great. The amount of chicken to bread ratio was good, but the bun and meat both tasted very dry. Probably could do with a little more sauce of some kind (chipotle aioli?). I think there are several other burger places I would go to in the city before trying this one again, but if you're in the Queen West area maybe check it out and see if their other burgers are better! On my way to work every morning I walk past the burger lab. I was finally able to stop in and try it out. I have to say that the smash burger I ordered was even better then I expected. Oh Em Gee! So, so good. Ordered through Skip The Dishes, using a $7 off code. I got the Inner Core Burger which is a homemade beef patty cheeseburger with a portobello mushroom stuffed full of melty cheese and breaded and fried. This monstrosity had to be eaten with a knife and fork! My Boo ordered the regular cheeseburger and fries, he was very impressed with the burger, it's beefy, meaty goodness. Yeah it's fine. It would eat here again if that's where somebody wanted to go but I wouldn't seek it out on my own. Kind of like an upscale fast food Burger, quite greasy cooked on a flat top and ho-hum fries that are definitely not double fried. It was tasty and my husband really loved it but I can have a bad reaction to greasy food and it was fine but nothing great. There are several other places I prefer to go. We decided to go and eat in the restaurant and were the absolutely ones there even though the surrounding restaurants had lots of people. Couple people came in to pick up to go orders Uber eats etc which I think is mainly what this place focuses on rather than as an actual restaurant. there's no real direction of go up to the counter order your food and sit down or do we sit down and they come take her order. when we were standing up there deciding on food, my husband started talking to the guy like this is what we're going to order, and he was like hold on he's doing something on the Square probably to do with an online order not certain, having not said a word to us or acknowledged us at all. They weren't particularly friendly or overly welcoming but they weren't rude either. And overall middle of the road experience. read more
