I've been here a few times now and the service is always great. I usually get the kbbq but this time I opted for the Bossam (it comes as a portion for 2). It is steamed pork belly served with a spicy radish kimchi which was sweet and spicy and I enjoyed. I ordered a draft Sapporo but they offer a delicious variety of both soju-based and tradition cocktails. It is usually pretty busy at night, especially on the weekends so it's a good idea to make a reservation if you have 2+ people. One thing to beware of if you've never done kbbq is your clothes will have a bit of a smoky smell but that's pretty common considering the live grilling. Okayyyy. My partner and I had the AYCE and the quality was fantastic. We were both surprised for an AYCE place. I had the lychee martini and it was hands down THE best lychee martini I have ever had. I try and find a Korean restaurant wherever in places I visit regularly because my kids and I love the food. While in Clearwater/St Petersburg for work I found this little gem. I have not had a Korean Corn dog so that was my starter and I went for the good old Bibimbap. Wow! Both were delicious. Service was insanely fast and friendly. We've been on the hunt for a good Korean place since moving to largo 3 years ago. This place was on our radar and we finally got around to dining there...and it was ok. The prices are very high for the amount of food provided and the portions of meat in the soup and the bibimbap was very small. The banchan they brought out was also very sparse compared to Korean restaurants we've been to in the past. In Korean culture, banchan is typically refilled and they did not do so or offer to do it. The kimchi pancake was overcooked and kind of gummy? The kimchi soup was good but there was maybe three sad pieces of pork in it, definitely not worth the price. The bibimbap was fine but again, portion of meat was very small. Plenty of seating inside, though the floors were really sticky and their exhaust must not work very well because we smelled like food walking out of there. The server did the bare minimum and acted like we were a bother when we asked for drink refills and for our check. We may try it out for kbbq down the road and hopefully it's better. read more

Our servers were so sweet and helpful, and very accommodating with my older family members, who were a bit confused with the menu. I shared the plate for two with my dad, and it was more than enough food! We ended up taking a lot of it to go. It's a super fun experience to get to cook the meat yourself and assemble your plate how you like! The food here is really really good! We're here on a Monday evening around 7:00 and it's not too packed. Bring your bbqing skills because you're cooking to your perfection. Everything will on our table has been above par. We got Option B and it's a filling quantity that's for sure. The staff that we interacted with have all been great with very cool senses of humor. 1st time trying the ayce bbq and it was fantastic. We had a propane grill on a portable cart that was parked adjacent to our booth. They place a piece of wax paper down on the grill for easy change out rather than dealing with metal cook tops. We enjoy the basics and stick to pork belly and brisket, and typically don't do the marinated meats on the grill. Portion size was great. Pork belly cut was thick and not too fatty. Perfect for getting the crispy finish. Brisket was cut a little thicker than I'm used to, but no complaints here. The thickness really kept it from cooking too fast. The sides that they give you before your entree comes out are to die for. all of them are packed with so much flavor. the house made kimchi I can eat all day. I went to this restaurant as part of a year end dinner for my team. The customer service was very good. The food was good as well. For a nominal fee you also get two glasses of wine. The Beef Bulgogi was really good and so were some of the other dishes. The location is a little hidden so you have to be looking for it. I would recommend better signage so you can see it from the road as it might generate more traffic. However, once inside they have a fully stocked bar, ample space and the food is good. I love dining at Matjoa! I grew up in Northern NJ where there were very large Korean communities in the Cliffside Park, Palisades Park area. Tons of Korean restaurants many of which were AYCE bbq. So glad that I found AYCE Korean Bbq here in the Clearwater area. I stumbled on Matjoa after the AYCE I would frequent near Tampa stopped offering Kalbi my favorite ( marinated short rib) on the AYCE MENU. I find the food to be of excellent quality and there is a good variety of meats on the AYCE menu. You can also choose to dine à la cart as well. This is a wonderful place to get your meat fix. You can eat all the meat you want until you cry Uncle! Warning: "Meat Sweats can happen here"! Btw the AYCE comes with your choice of 2 beers to wash all that meet down. My friend recommended me this place since we were visiting tampa and wow !!!! It is the best kbbq I've had outside of Orlando (besides New York of course) for sure. The brisket was perfectly fatty, thin, and tender. The boneless short ribs were tender as well as the filet. Bulgogi tasted a tad bit sweeter than I usually prefer but it was super juicy. I also loved the sides included such as steamed egg (not as fluffy as I like but well seasoned), kimchi (perfectly fermented and not too spicy), and onion salad. This was my first experience with Korean bbq and I think I can get jiggy with it! I was mildly concerned with the accompanying side dishes and wondering how will I get my fill. But with the variety of "all you can eat" meats to choose from to grill, I was definitely satisfied. It is a lighter type of meal if you are a very hearty eater. Note: Everyone on the table must choose the all you can eat menu even if only one person at your table wants it. I deducted a star because of the unorganized service. I have to admit, I had no clue this place existed but I am glad we found it. You get the option to cook your own food or have them cook it for you. Since it was the first time we went, they recommended we have them cook for us so we can focus on the sides and flavor pallets. I got a beef meal I can't remember the name of but it was so good and so tender! I love that each person gets a little side bowl of rice that is steaming hot and ready to mix with your kimchi and potato salad. My boyfriend got a potato noodle meal with beef, it was a different flavor but not too bad, however he did say he would rather get the beef meal I got next time. Last night, we decided to check out Matjoa Korean BBQ. It went a little sideways due to the large party. We had a larger party, 12, so I called the day before to give them a heads up. They asked me to call 2 hours before we arrived and give them our order. I thought this was an odd request and it ended up being quite difficult to enjoy the visit as a result of this. I could only get the order from half of my friends and I called it in to let them know. Some of us arrived on time and we had a few stragglers that were 10 mins late. We also had 2 people cancel, so the whole preorder was not correct. We were seated immediately and they asked if we wanted to put in our partial order right then. We said we did not and wanted to look over the menu as it was hard to find online for some. We put in our appetizers and then we put in our main dishes. Only a few minutes later, about 60% of our apps come out. We ask if the rest was on the way and we were told it was. Then our main dishes start coming out before our apps are finished and before some appetizers were delivered. The rate the food was coming out of the kitchen was an absolute mess. Some people finished their main dishes before the rest of the main meals came out. We weren't upset, but having a large party there just didn't work out. The food we ordered was decent. The Korean fried chicken, mandu, and kimchi soup were all solid appetizers. The Korean corn dog really surprised us. It had cheese inside and was rolled in sugar. The whole table loved that one. The galbi was tough, overcooked, and not that enjoyable. The spicy pork fried rice was the stand out dish and the bulgogi was a solid second. Overall, we had mixed feelings about this visit. The food was above average for the most part, but the rate it came out of the kitchen was not optimal. The service was friendly and was helpful with what they could get. I am sitting on the same side as my hubby to create some distance and luckily one end of the booth is not near another table for 6 feet. We ordered a spicy chicken bulgogi, cold barley (boricha) tea, tteokbokki, stone bowl bibimbap. 2 person minimum for the BBQ. It's chilly inside, we grabbed our jackets The spicy chicken skillet was sizzling on its way to us. It's quite tasty. The spicy chicken bibimbap is also good, piping and smoking hot. The rice was getting nicely cooked and hard. Cooked the egg yolk some on the stone pot, luckily it cooked fully. Absolutely delicious japchae and kimchi pancake. You know a meal is good when during every bite you think, this is a delicious meal. A friend was coming over and asked what food I'd like her to pick up. After a quick Yelp search I saw that this place opened close to her. Can I just say, dang is she lucky. I would be eating here constantly if it was close to me. I got the japchae and like I said, absolutely delicious. There's not a lot of beef in it, but really in Asian cuisine there aren't huge portions of beef so this wasn't surprising to me. It wasn't greasy and the sweet potato noodles were so good. They don't taste like sweet potatoes at all if you're wondering. (I'm not a huge fan of sweet potatoes so I feel like that's worth pointing out). The one random thing is with their banchan they give you a potato salad instead of fish cakes. I would have preferred the fish cakes, but oh well. The kimchi is very good, not too spicy. I also tried the kimchi pancake and it was amazing. Next time I'm getting the seafood pancake for sure. It's a huge serving though, so it could be a meal or be prepared to share. My friend got the vegetable dumplings and she said it had meat in them. Definitely check on that if you're a vegetarian. She did eat all of them and said they are delicious. Our dinner also came with a free show as there was an incredibly drunk and disruptive patron they were dealing with at the time. That was only one of the caveats of this place. This restaurant is also an AYCE Korean BBQ spot but they don't have proper ventilation installed so it gets really smokey in the restaurant. So smokey that it dried out my contacts. Great option for Korean BBQ in the Clearwater/St. Pete area. This is conveniently located a hop, skip, and jump from the Clearwater/St. Pete airport. There are nearby hotels and I'm sure they go to this restaurant since it is so close. They have lunch specials for all you can eat Korean bbq as well as their usual all you can eat Korean bbq for dinner. We chose not to do all you can eat. We also chose to have them cook our food rather than us do the bbq'ing. Been there, done that so we liked having them cook for us with no fuss. We ordered the Korean wings but I really thought it would be the ones with the sauce. Ours was on the side just in case it was too spicy and it wasn't what I love so much. Also they charged extra for the sauce on the side. Not a big deal but ehhh. We loved our bulgogi beef and our galbi short rib. I was bummed that we only got five banchan. The other group got potato salad which we didn't get and I know my husband would have loved. Our server was nice. It was confusing because it seemed that the other servers helped all the tables, but when we needed something the other server only came to us to take our bill, rather than help us in the middle of our dinner. The hostess who sat us got us tea afterwards. Barley tea is really good. Since it is super cold inside, it was especially good. I bet they make it extra cold for to offset the grills. The grill was on the side which defeated the purpose of table top BBQ. 2. Pork belly was all fat and inedible. Other meats were cut into tiny bits which didn't work well on the grill. 3. Cheap paper napkins and chopsticks. 4. Overpriced cocktails loaded with syrup and plenty of ice. 5. Male servers were fine but female servers were unattentive and not friendly. 6. We had to ask for lettuce which was supposed to come with the meal. Why? 7. I know Korean restaurants are not cheap but 4% credit card fees unless you pay cash? I didn't have a chance to take pictures of the grill or meat platters because I sat by the wall in the booth (my fault). I gave 2 stars, not 1, because the food portion was reasonable. read more
