My parents enrolled me in Genius Kids afterschool and summer camp programs when I was in…read morekindergarten and I continued to attend all the way through the middle of fourth grade (I still remember when one of their locations was called Win With Words!) I have a lot of good memories there, but I have to say they were more related to the friends who attended than the actual learning experience. I'm not sure how the curriculum has changed since I went, but to any inquisitive parents wondering, our schedule usually consisted of being picked up from school, having snack time, doing our school assigned homework, and then free time. They didn't really give us any additional work to do so if you want your kids to get academic enrichment this probably isn't the best place. Summer camp had more ; we did get some work but we took field trips to the nearby elementary schools to stretch out legs and we did do fun activities. My main problem, as other reviews seem to say, is with the management. The teachers at this location were super nice and I was pretty close with a lot of them. I think they did care about the well being of the kids and acted accordingly. I wish I could say the same for Ms. Rennu, Mr. Gill, Ms. Shana, and Ms. Sheena. Even as a young child, I could pick up on the vibe that the staff were scared of being fired for no reason. They would always remind us to be extra neat and proper before a visit from Ms. Rennu so they wouldn't 'get in trouble'. When Ms. Rennu and the rest interacted with us, they were always harsh and impatient. I don't have a single good memory of any of them in all my years of attending. I am now a sophomore in high school and still get an icky feeling whenever someone mentions Ms. Rennu, so it's really not worth traumatizing your kid by sending them here. They also weren't very willing to listen to parents and often treated them condescendingly. Keep in mind that if an elementary school child could pick up on this, it was really a problem. If you're a parent and reading this review, I don't recommend that you send your kid here.

I went to tour this place as a possibility for after school care for my son. The entire experience…read morewas bad. I showed up 20 mins earlier than my appt time (traffic was great) so I waited in my car, I literally did not see a soul come in or out of that place, then I went in and the man that gave me the tour couldn't answer any of my basic questions, how many students a day, grade range, daily routine, nothing. There were no windows, really the whole place gave me the creeps and my son too. As soon as I walked out I got a call from the female director (I think) who had booked my appt for the tour as though she had been alerted to my dissatisfaction of the place and i told her exactly how I felt, she then tried to answer my questions and tried to make excuses for why my questions weren't answered during the tour but I just felt a bad vibe and I never went back!

This is a terrible place for supervised visitation. Staff members Bertha and Debbie were…read moreunprofessional, rude, and showed no compassion toward children or parents. They acted as though they could do whatever they wanted, without accountability or concern for the well-being of those they serve. The facility itself is poorly maintained and uncomfortable. On a very hot day, I requested that the AC be turned on, but Bertha and Debbie dismissed the request, saying it was "not that hot." This is unacceptable--especially in a setting where children's comfort and safety should be a top priority. The environment felt unwelcoming, and many children appeared uneasy and unhappy. The carpet was filthy, and the room smelled unpleasant, creating an unhealthy and stressful atmosphere. In my opinion, this business does not meet basic city requirements to operate such a facility. It should either be shut down immediately or undergo a complete change in management. This is not a supportive or safe place for kids. I strongly recommend finding an alternative provider with caring, respectful staff and a clean, comfortable facility.

Terra Firma, which promotes itself as an addiction treatment center, is absolutely the last place…read moreanyone should be involved with. I have personally witnessed at least five cases assigned by the Hayward Court that were poorly managed by this facility. They clearly lack the competence to handle visitations properly, and to make matters worse, the person in charge seems more interested in giving interviews about her so-called "success" than fulfilling her actual responsibilities. If I could, I would rate this place zero stars. It's disheartening to watch individuals gain media attention by presenting a shiny, perfect image while failing to meet the needs of the community they claim to serve. Just today, another article was released boasting about her alleged successes and struggles, yet the reality within the facility is far from the story being portrayed. I strongly urge those responsible for licensing and overseeing these institutions to conduct a full and thorough investigation into how they operate. Instead of rehabilitating individuals, they are only perpetuating harm by enabling offenders to continue their actions. It's beyond disappointing to witness such bias within an organization that is supposed to serve the community. For reference, I have yet to meet a single person assigned to Terra Firma by the Hayward City Court who has had a positive experience. Rather than promoting accountability and true rehabilitation, they're allowing offenders to remain free while creating a false public image. If you or someone you know has been directed to this facility for any form of treatment, rehabilitation, or visitation, I strongly recommend requesting a reassignment immediately. This place is doing more harm than good and is failing to serve society. And may God have mercy on Bertha Cuellar, the woman in charge--because as her name suggests, she is a liar, without a doubt.

I wanted to leave a review in hopes that it might help other parents. When my child turned 2,I felt…read moreit was time to start looking at schools. We toured a few places and even paid the enrollment fee for a private school, but something kept nagging at me. So, we decided to take one last tour -at Smiling Faces. As soon as my husband and I were driving back from the tour, we both knew that this was the place. Our decision was right, and it has been perfect! Though it's smaller, the school has everything a preschool could offer. I am constantly impressed by the creativity and passion of the teachers, who organize monthly events that make learning fun. My child, who is bilingual and had some delays in language, was a bit sensitive at first, but the teachers welcomed them with patience and warmth, truly treating them with genuine care. The low teacher-to-student ratio allows for personalized attention, not only in childcare but also in learning. They coach the kids on things like letters, numbers, holding a pencil, and table manners. The words my child now speaks are thoughtful and polite, thanks to the careful attention the teachers give to every interaction. Twice a year, we could have parent-teacher conferences to discuss in detail where our child is developmentally, and I believe 1:1 meetings are always available if any concerns arise. As first-time parents, everything was overwhelming and worrisome for us, but Ms. Katie was such a steady guide for us. The only downside for me was the distance, but it was well worth it. I wish I could share more photos, but since they include the children, I will only share a few. Ms. Katie and Ms. Adriana, we truly feel blessed that you were my child's first teachers. Thank you so much!

This review is long overdue considering that my son is now a freshman in college!…read more I cannot recommend Miss Katie and Smiling Faces Home Daycare & Preschool highly enough to anyone who is looking for a daycare! Smiling Faces fostered both education and growth of its students in such a nurturing environment. My son thoroughly enjoyed himself when he attended Smiling Faces all those years ago. On our very first day, Miss Katie had to pry my son off of me so that I could leave. He was crying because of his fear of separation and I felt horrible leaving him in that state. Miss Katie reassured me that he would settle and so I left with a heavy heart. Shortly afterwards, I pulled into a gas station and began crying myself Within a few minutes, Miss Katie texted me pictures of my son playing and smiling with the other children at the daycare which comforted my heart so. When I picked up my son that afternoon, he was happily and comfortably playing with the other students. It was as if he had been attending Smiling Faces for many months. Over our time there, I was able to witness firsthand Miss Katie's dedication to each of her students. She leads with kindness and love and it is quite obvious to all. She is committed to the fostering, development, and well-being of all of her students. I have nothing but tremendous respect and admiration for Miss Katie and Smiling Faces.
