My child is very bright, but math isn't interesting to her, so she gets behind without help staying focused.

I've had experiences with this tutoring center since its inception nearly eight years ago, and…read morecompletely believe in its program. For those of you looking for a place that will help your kids out with school, this is one of the best and most unique places out there. Unlike Kumon and Sylvan, Homework Bound focuses on the homework the children bring home rather than bombarding them with additional work and exercises. The teachers help the students understand their homework first and reach the root of the problem that way. Thus, those who need some extra focus can get that and those who need additional guidance can receive that as well. The program focuses on organization and time-keeping skills that will help the children with their homework and can also be applied elsewhere even after they leave the center. The teachers are great, caring, funny, and also focusead. They are chosen very carefully and put a lot of heart into what they are doing. Mr. Vesagas, the director, is also a very caring man who devotes so much of his time to his program and the children. He is extremely passionate about helping each child individually and always makes sure that they stay on track in terms of finishing their work. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for some extra tutoring for your child. While this isn't a "day-care," it is a great alternative to it. Bring your child home in the evening with their homework finished and enjoy some very much needed family time. :)

When I complained to the staff about it and even the higher up's, they did not seem to care or offer any sort of explanation or guidance. We will never go back here again. I would be cautious about sending your child. We have had plenty of friends still send their kids after our experience and it was ok, but I wouldn't want to take the chance!

The sports segment provided the kids with junk food like rice crispy treats and chips - free of cost, and unbeknownst to parents. This program is a glamorized babysitting facility with middle schoolers as camp counselors and mediocre staff in the classrooms. My son expressed that two different adult "teachers" were unkind toward him, and that is something a child should NEVER experience, let alone the hands-off afterschool babysitting club style environment that they have established.

By the time kids and teachers get settled in, time has already passed so it makes sense to optimize the time by having longer periods. Sports were also great. Chaminade offers various sports to boys and girls. My son enjoyed football. It is a Catholic school which really only means that they take a religion class and there are masses for the various holidays but there are also many non-Catholic students there. The themes disussed in the religion classes vary from Old Testament to New Testament to STD education. The main "complaint" my son had was that many of the children starting in the ninth grade went to the Chaminade middle school so they already knew each other and this made it harder for him to make friends. Football helped him a lot with this problem but I still think it is ideal for a child to stay with the same group for middle school into high school. Finally, I am happy with this high school because my son did well on his SATs and I think that it can partially be attributed to Chaminade.

When the incident happened in 2024, I was scared like any parent would be. The school immediately shut down, took things seriously, and spent time putting proper safety measures and precautions in place. During that time, I felt they were transparent and handled an extremely difficult situation the best they could. My daughter continued attending until graduation once they reopened, and I'm grateful she was able to finish her time there. I also spoke with Tara, the owner, and she was nothing but honest, caring, and truly heartbroken. You can tell she pours her entire heart into these kids and sees them as her own. What I don't want people to forget is what this school actually did for our children. My daughter learned her shapes, started spelling her name, and came out of her shell in the best way. She was excited for dance class, Spanish, performances, and student of the month it truly built her confidence. It's sad seeing so much judgment online based only on headlines. Yes, accountability matters, but so does fairness to the teachers and staff who show up every day with love for these kids.

After a few months I was overwhelmed, exhausted and confused and he wasn't happy either. Thankfully, I was referred to Kids Crew by my neighbor. We went for a tour and knew right away this is the perfect place for him. They have a great playground with all kinds of things for kids to do. The staff is absolutely awesome and really invest a lot of time and energy getting to know the kids and the things that motivates them. They also talk to me regularly to see how my son's learning is going at home which I greatly appreciate. He loves going there and has made so many friends. I wish I could send him every day! He is also learning so much and his confidence has improved. I cannot recommend them enough. It it truly a magical place!

I chose this learning center because it was presented as an inclusive environment for…read moreneurodivergent children. After more than a year of consistent effort, communication, and trying to make things work, I ultimately did not feel that the level of support or collaboration matched what my children needed. My 9-year-old daughter repeatedly shared that she struggled to be included during group activities. She often said she would ask to join and was denied, or she would tell a teacher and was told they would "talk to the other kids," but the situation continued without follow-through. Over time, she began telling me she didn't want to ask anymore because it felt pointless. As a parent, it is my responsibility to advocate for my children, and I brought these concerns to the staff and director multiple times. I also observed patterns of certain children consistently sticking together while others were left out. Although I understand that friendships form naturally, I expected staff to guide inclusive interactions--especially in a program that emphasizes social learning. Instead, I was told that I was "asking for too much." There was also a situation where another child's teasing left my daughter in tears. When I asked how these situations were handled, I was told it was typical behavior. While disagreements and conflicts do happen between children, I expected more structured intervention and support in line with the center's stated values. I also noticed my daughter regularly sitting alone during snack time while other children clustered together. When I pointed this out as an opportunity to encourage inclusive social behavior, the response I received was that children simply sit where they choose. While this is true I felt the situation highlighted an ongoing lack of guided support. Also where director Nancy had my daughter sit alone and when my daughter said she wanted to sit with the girls she was scolded "it doesn't matter!". A social-skills supervisor who observed my daughter noted that staff might benefit from additional training on how to support neurodivergent students, which reflected my own experiences. My son also encountered challenges. He was disenrolled due to behavior concerns, and I took every step requested by the center to secure additional support so he could return. Even with outside support staff present, I did not see the level of engagement or consistency needed for him to participate successfully. Throughout the year, I made multiple attempts to collaborate and offer constructive feedback. Based on my interactions, I did not feel that feedback was well-received or that my concerns were taken seriously. As a parent of neurodivergent children, advocating for them is essential, and I did not feel the partnership I hoped for was present. While this center may work well for some families (only for the families they personally know), it did not align with our needs or the level of support I expect in an environment that promotes itself as inclusive. I know what culture and values I want for my children and this is not it

That made me realize how much teacher-led, paper-and-pen instruction helps students focus and learn. As a transfer student, my daughter was warmly supported by teachers, her advisor, and the staff. The community is small, caring, and dedicated. I also joined a Board of Directors meeting before enrolling and was impressed by the school's organization and forward-thinking leadership. VIPHS reports an 81% college-acceptance rate, compared with under 60% at many nearby public high schools. The average class size is about 20 with a 15:1 student-teacher ratio, versus 30-35 students and ratios in the high 20s elsewhere. VIPHS is a close-knit, welcoming community that genuinely cares for students and prioritizes personal attention and academic excellence. Plus, drop-off and pick-up are so easy, a small but real bonus for families!
