When i signed up, Mr. K told me how great his program was and a bunch of success stories and how my child would be caught up within a few months. He also said how other Kumon's in the area were inferior and how he's the best. He also quoted one price and then upped the price once it was time to pay. The entire time we were there my child did double the work to catch up. But when we were still behind and I questioned this, he responded by saying he never said we'd be caught up by then. That is untrue. He then extended the time needed to catch up. He then had my child repeat entire levels multiple times and said it was necessary. I felt horrible having to put my child through that as it was daunting and unnecessary. When I realized what was happening and I mentioned it he made up some excuses and said if he had given the test more of course my child would have passed. He got upset when I finally started asking questions. He also said other Kumons' hold kids back to make more money. He also refused to show me the progress report of how much my child had to repeat (he keeps a report of all repeats) it was at least 3 times and then he quickly rushed me out. My child never progressed and I spent over $1000 for six months of just doing worksheets that I had to grade. And if I made a mistake he reprimanded me. In retrospect, I realize he made excuses for everything and when I questioned him he would turn it around on me. My child is now doing workbooks at home and is thriving and has progressed much much faster and is proficient under my care. We also did free online flash cards that really helped. The program is only worksheets that you as a parent have to grade. I would stay away from his business. I don't understand how he is so busy being able to open another store on beach and Adam's.

Viet My offers group and one on one sessions, my kids are in the group sessions where this allows them to stay focus and disciplined after school with other tutoring mates who have the same goals and tutoring teachers to assist them. As for the one on ones we use as needed. I would recommend parents who are looking for a long term tutoring place to Viet My. My kids love it there and it's a safe place for my kids to attend by themselves after school. I was a Kumon student for 10 years. Kumon is the reason why I excelled in all my math classes…read morethroughout K-12. I finished all my math classes one grade early, got a 5 on the AP Calc test, near perfect on the math section on the SAT, and entered college with math in my mind. Unfortunately, a math major never stuck, but I know that I wouldn't have been so good in math if it wasn't for Kumon. Now I attended and worked at the Kumon in the bay area, but being the great cousin I am, convinced my aunt and uncle in socal to let my cousin attend Kumon. She probably hated me at first for getting her parents to enroll her in additional academic work, but she ain't complaining now!....usually. My cousin...who's now in middle school, is top of her class in math. She makes me feel proud *tear* hahaha This Kumon center is a lot smaller than the one I'm use to, but that's a good thing! Because now the instructor has more time to focus on the kid and actually remember their names and faces. It provides a quieter study area, and intimate setting that doesn't look like a kid factory like the one I'm use to. The people running this place were super nice to me when I talked to them. I talked about my personal experiences with Kumon, and they were super happy to hear about all my achievements. They are super optimistic and told me that what happened to me is what they hope to see every student in their center achieve.

It's not quite tutoring.. it's more of repetition. but im not sure why people complain that it's alot of work. its only 20 minutes per day to do the booklets. and 2xs a week they go in to the center and do classwork.. takes approx 40 min for those visits.. anyway, my daughter does math sooo quickly now.. i cant believe she can figure out tips and such faster than me! while they dont tutor kids, their math skills are so fast that i really think that when my kid starts doing long math problems, she can focus on getting the 'how to' without being bogged down by the simple stuff she has already mastered.. and lastly, my favorite thing of all, is that i am no longer 'the bad guy'.. the booklets are timed and need to be turned in to the kumon center.. Im no longer the middle man.
