I was very concerned with the lack of attention as well as other issues in general at the public school system. We took a tour of Aspen Academy in January 2019, and my child spent the day there shadowing other students in the kindergarten class. When I came to pick her up she was all smiles. Fast forward to today. My daughter has been in the first grade class at Aspen Academy for over half of the school year, and every day I pick her up she is smiling and wanting to tell me about everything that happened during her day. The school is innovative, welcoming, kind, inclusive, forward thinking and so much more. The parent community is strong and supportive. The overall student community is strong and supportive. This school is developing the leaders of today and the future. I always feel that no matter what arises, it will be attended to quickly and with kindness. A specific example is this time of the coronavirus - this school was so prepared for any situation that in less than 24 hours (i think actually 12), the school had all of its education online for school students to do virtual learning. The teachers were prepared and humble. The students were excited and happy to continue their learning. I cannot say enough about the school, it's teachers and it's founders. Aspen understands what children need to succeed, and they provide the resources, support and kindness to ensure that each child has the best possible experience.

The counselor seems involved and like he cares, but when it comes down to it he passes blame and plays as if he doesn't know what's going on and he wasn't involved in the group conversation. Once the administration makes up their mind, it doesn't matter what your child does, they have decided they want them out. Most of the parents are fine, but many seem very impressed with themselves. We were thrilled that there was an opening in 6th grade for the upcoming year at Denver Academy.

We have been impressed from day 1 and have been there 3 years. Almost all of the staff has been there for 10 or more years, which is almost unheard of in the child care world. We started bringing our 4 year old son as well, and he came home the first day and proclaimed "My first day was AWESOME!!!". He has said that several times since. Their classes are "small by design" to focus on social-emotional growth and it shows. The DPS school my son is now in has 28 kids compared to Positive Alternative's 12. They have great communication and get kids really excited about learning. In addition, they have a special relationship with a nearby retirement home and often visit their "grandmas and grandpas" for special holidays to do art projects or sing with them. Positive Alternative is helping to raise conscientious, loving humans. They have great educational field trips in the summer that both kids love. All of the teachers are amazingly talented and dedicated and we feel blessed to have our children cared for so well.

Not only do they teach academics and life skills, but they teach kids about compassion, dealing with emotions, helping others, and being overall awesome people. Marcia, the director, is incredible. Her mom started the school 30 years ago and it's truly a family focused business. It is a second home for our kiddos and they feel loved when they are there. Several of the teachers/leadership has been there over 20 years. There is very little turnover with teachers. Many of the junior staff are past students that loved the school so much that they came back as adults to work there. For some of the logistics...prices are competitive and you get vacation days, which is basically unheard of anymore. They are only closed on major holidays and rarely close for weather. They offer sibling discounts. They provide two snacks AND lunch, which is well balanced and always has fruit and veggies. You can also provide cereal for them to serve your kiddos in the morning. So nice as a working parent to not have to worry about packing anything! In the older classrooms, they do field trips throughout the year, and weekly outings during the summer--including trips to the park, Trampoline places, movies, Chuck E-Cheese, Bellevue Park, etc. They also offer swim lessons, soccer, music class and other activities on rotation. Another benefit is the family activities--breakfast with Santa with carriage rides, summer picnics at the pool, fundraiser nights at local restaurants and others. Overall, we're so glad we spent the last 3 years at PA and are so sad that we have to move on to Kindergarten.
