The window displays hold some of the finer country looking stock that they have in the shop, there is also some rather tacky jewellery waiting to be adorned by fashionite. If records are more your thing there was a large selection when I was in, plenty of Bonnie Taylor, BeeGees and similar slightly cringe-worthy slightly funny tunes to had for a pound a piece.

Their shops are one of their many ways of fundraising to help with all that they do for the people using their service. Charity shop browsing is super-great-fun if you find the right ones. This one is definitely on the list of good'ens. There's always a little piece of clothing I see and grab that I would never have thought of desiring, and definitely never have found in the likes of Top Shop or the like for such a dear amount. Most of the stuff is admittedly quite dated in style and era, but as Amy P said, the fashion is always coming back round, and tweeds are most definitely 'in' in some peoples eyes. I tend to go for baggy jumpers, leggings, or things made of nice warm wool to aid me on these days of near ice age temperatures. They do also have an amazing array of random gems like old vinyls, and of course those fantastically dodgy ornaments or tea sets that make great comedy presents or quirky bits for your own abode. Remember, they are so much cheaper than high street chains, and they don't gobble up their takings like fat greedy kings, they actually put it to some humane use. Good stuff!

Personally I like the sales in Schuh as you can often find a decent pair of shoes for a pretty good price, prices resembling that of TK Maxx and often with a good range of sizes. I also like the service you get in Schuh, obviously if it's not so busy you feel a bit more pressure to buy with the sales assistant hovering near-by but all in all they don't care if you don't buy them there and then. One thing I don't like, being a size 6, is how all the really pretty shoes are put on display as size 4, of course they look dainty in a size a but up it a few notches and it ain't so adorable.

Being a big foot, I can browse the boys and girls ranges for footwear, which comes in handy for the guys section, as many girl's leisure shoes tend to only come in the sickly colours of baby pink, lilac and aqua, like women folk aren't supposed to admire or appreciate or want to wear something a little more bolder. I don't know where this preconception comes from, but sometimes I am thankful for my big feet, as they allow me to step into the chunky cool and brightly adorned men's shoes, especially with brands like Osiris and the Nike 6.0 range, where I fell in love with Glow in the Dark 6.0s. Heaven!!! I already have the shoelaces waiting. Prices here are just as competitive as places like Office, and pretty much most shoe outlets in the area. Sale season is always good in Schuh as they do like to slash the prices for a bargain. This particular Schuh, well it's a bit chilly. Not in atmosphere, well yes in atmosphere of course, but not in the way of the staff or anybody else's snooty attitudes, more the temperature. There's lots of open space in the middle of the store which gives commission hungry staff the opportunity to pounce on you, but more often than not they're a helpful bunch. This Schuh has it's own Clarks' Originals section, which I find just brilliant. I like the Clarks' Original styles, and I am always baffled that even dipping into most Clarkes shoe stores doesn't provide an Original's range or section or anything. So if you want to browse shoes, accessories and the elusive Clarks' Originals...hit Schuh White Rose Centre. Woop!

It feels a bit mean to criticise a charity shop, since in their essence they are good, but every so often you might find a bit of a dud. This is *not* the case with Help The Aged of Street Lane however, it's a very sweet little charity shop. The place is laid out really nicely so it's easy to find what you want, from housewares to coats to accessories. I would say that their dress display was a tad tricky to browse, being as there were hoards of dresses squeezes on to one rack which made it hard to see each one indivdually. Even so, for someone like me this is no big obstacle - where there's a will there's a way and all that! The lovely feature of this particular shop is the range of homely jams, honeys and other such delicious offerings all at a cheap cheerful charity shop rate. Some kindly volunteers too, so all good! For a grand old browse, this is the place to be.

One of the great things about this place is that occasionally some of the designer goods from across the road make it over here after one careful owner. It isn't so cramped and disorganised that browsing is a chore as can be the case with some charity shops. It's nicely laid out with friendly staff and occasionally has a hidden gem tucked away, I got a oasis bag that would normally cost at least £40 for only £3, who can argue with that?

The location is a bit odd though - it used to be near Debenhams, but now it's moved down near Sainsbury. I don't know if they get more foot traffic at this position, but it gives me a different impression about the shop somehow. My main issue with Next, and by that I mean all branches of the shop, is that the full range in the catalogue isn't available in the shops. I've never found a size 22 in any branch, including this one.

Anyway. It was half an hour before closing time, so ages to go, still plenty of shopping to be done. So I got some stuff to try on. And then I got into the changing rooms and what said my size on the hanger actually had a sale tag on a size smaller. And then when I realised it wasn't going to fit, I spotted it said a size smaller than even that on the inside. Which made me grumpy. And then I tried some of the sale stuff on and it was crap and then the non sale stuff was awful too. Really bad quality. Hot Steve and I reckon that they never try and sell all the pap normally that tips up in the sale items, because it's always always horrible, and then it ends up in a Next Clearance, and because we all think Next = Quality we get duped into buying it. It's a con! A CON I tell you! Also, I didn't like the layout of this Next. It seems to have a really low ceiling.
