Awh I like Cadeaux, I even like that Cadeaux is french for gift or present, I don't actually find it corny or naff. Even from the outside, without stepping foot into the store it's hard not to find this place charming and lovely and awh-inducing.
Tis the season to be schmoltzy, it being Valentines and all, and Cadeaux is appropriately dressed for the occasion, with a plethora of red things and things containing almost barfish sentiments about love "without you life was good, with you it's excellent" (sick bag anyone?), I actually do find it endearing. There are currently lots of love heart shaped things, be they silver with diamonds, or in oil format on the artwork, I like the sense of imagination that goes into the creation of the goods that reside here. Be they simply unusual shapes or textures or a combination of the two, in whatever festivity is looming.
Homewears stuff is a bit on the expensive side, randomly so, it almost doesn't match up with what it is, £45 for a standard size glass photo frame. Doesn't seem right somehow. The brand Alessi seems rather prominent in this section, but I've never heard of it, and no matter how much I find you charming Cadeaux, £65 for two cups and two saucers is plain crazy.
I was on the hunt for a luxury Scrabble set and was pointed in Cadeaux's direction, and whilst I didn't find my Scrabble I did spot a rather decadently priced chess set, that I'm still contemplating despite the ridiculous price tag.
I've got a few friends getting married in the next year or so, so naturally I stumbled across the wedding gifts with a semi interest, to which I was asked if the bride or groom (pardon, didn't tell them I had betrothed's in my collective) were registered. Registered for what? Penny dropped, wedding list. No they weren't and aren't, but I was told that if I liked what I saw I could view more of their wedding gift ideas on the website, hmmm interesting, always food for thought.
So some stuff is a bit barf bag, and some more of the stuff is expensive for what it is, it's something a little bit different, and fairly unique, I won't say totally unique, in case it's a case of, haven't seen you before, but yes you do reside in another Leeds shop. I like it. It's alright by me it is. read more
