I then wandered down the main shopping street and noticed this shop. I have bought things in Bon Marche in different towns before and remembered that they usually have footwear in addition to clothes, so I went inside for a browse. I'm glad I did because I found a lovely comfy pair of slippers for £8. Many pairs were reduced in price and it's worth remembering that you can often get a good bargain here also in fashion. I like many of the clothes in Bon Marche (especially their trousers and jumpers) and will go back to look at their autumn range when it comes in before long.

I didn't want my husband to have to wait for me too long (!) but I did manage a good look around before I left the store (I didn't want to miss out on any other great bargains!) There are lots of great reductions at the moment but the new range full-price garments are really nice too. I also liked some of the accessories, including the jewellery. I haven't really shopped much in Dorothy Perkins before but I'll certainly return for another look the next time I need some local retail therapy. That dress has made my day!!!

The last thing I bought here was a beautiful red silk party dress for my daughter.You can be sure they will always have something special in stock and its the only place I went to for special occassion outfits when my kids were younger. One great thing about buying special outfits here is that the owner only ever gets in one of each size per style,so you can be sure there wont be loads of little girls in the same dress at the party. Yes its more expensive than asda or tesco but its not pretending to be a budget store,it is something special, the ranges are great and change frequently with the seasons and fashions,lovely quality clothing and something a bit different to what everyone elses kids are wearing.You can put together a complete seasonal wardrobe from their ranges easily. For designer stuff its not too expensive with the average cost per item being £20.They also have outfit sets of 3 or 4 items for about £45-60.Thats good value. For baby gifts they always have beautiful items. Theres always a sale rail or sale box if you want designer on a tight budget.

They take clothes there for repairs and alterations and explained that, not only is the work always of the highest standard, but probably cheaper than anywhere else. What higher recommendation could you ever need?!! Almost needless to say, I took some clothes straight down to the shop (which you'll find just round the corner from 'Subway' through the door on the left and up the stairs) and left them (along with a deposit) with a friendly lady there. A few days later I went back to pick up the clothes, which were beautifully repaired, and to pay the balance of a few pounds. Certainly cheap for such professional work and I shall definitely return when I need any more sewing done!

I don't actually come into any of those categories (!) but I did like some of the new jackets and blazers, smart dresses and chunky cardigans on offer at the moment. There is also a good range of shoes and accessories inside including bags, scarves and jewellery. You'll find it in the main pedestrianised shopping street in the town; I can walk to the shops from where I live but the nearest car park to use is probably the one beside Wilkinson, just off the one-way system.

To the best of my knowledge there are no other 7 day markets in Ayrshire. They have many varied stalls including a t-shirt printing stall, mobile phones, gothic stall, wedding stall, tattooist, cobbler, fruit and veg, pets and many more! The owners of the stalls all seem to genuinely get along and this makes for a friendly and relaxed atmosphere! Something which is sadly lacking in the busy stress-filled supermarkets these days! It might be a bit rough around the edges when it comes to the decor but what it lacks in this it more than makes up for in character! I strongly advise you to visit if you haven't been in a while as you may be pleasantly surprised by what they have to offer!

Julie's Salon is great for haircuts and you don't usually have to book just turn up and wait your turn (sometimes you don't have to wait very long, it depends on the time of day). The small fruit and veg stall is perfect for fresh produce at a lower price than the main town shops. At the very end there are white net curtains for sale something which is quite difficult to find these days as they've gone out of fashion. Near the entrance you can buy picture frames and handbags. Beyond these outlets there's a large stall selling pet supplies, especially cages of all sizes; a stall selling greetings cards and several others. Definitely worth a look!

The staff are always friendly and helpful. I spent some time looking around in here one day last week when my husband was buying some new study lace-up shoes. I didn't buy anything for myself on that occasion but I intend to find a new pair of boots soon so will pay them another visit!
