I used to shun Waterstones, but they have definitely upped their game in the bookshop stakes. Interesting titles, great displays and excellent staff mean that this is a firm favourite of mine. I popped in yesterday for a browse and they had a great display of books for the upcoming Edinburgh book festival. I had no idea that Murakami and George RR Martin were appearing at it so that totally made my day. Added a star for the fact they sell Simpsons minifigs. While this store is on the small side, they nearly always have what I'm looking for and the added bonus of books I didn't know I wanted. Probably the best shop in The Avenue and well worth a visit. read more

Located in The Avenue, this is a rather compact branch of Waterstones but it's handy if you're looking for a new read and I usually head up to The Avenue for last minute holiday products from Boots and Superdrug and it's great to be able to pop into The Avenue for a holiday read too. As it's in a residential area, this Waterstones has a good selection of study books particularly for school level and they always have a large supply of past papers. It's a fresh, clean and well organised branch with friendly staff. Plus, if there's something that you're looking for that isn't in stock - you can always order it in! read more

A great selection for one of the smaller Waterstones shops. The only downside is that in such a relatively small space it can feel a bit cramped - which gives it an old second hand bookshop kinda vibe but may put off some people. read more

Only 1 star for this branch (always 5 stars for Glasgow branches though) for the shop being handy for my work. No more stars though as the member of staff gave me a look of despair when I approached her at the counter then when I told her I had ordered two books she then asked my surname and when I told her they each had separate order numbers she said sarcastically " We're not THAT stupid here - we CAN work that out". I was rather taken aback I have to say so I tried to warm the icy atmosphere by commenting on why it didn't let me order the two books together and she just answered witheringly.."Hmm, yes- that's click and collect for you" Even when I thanked her when she closed the sale, my 'goodbye' wasn't answered. How weird! I'd wondered if click and collect is frowned upon in that particular branch? Do they perhaps want me to browse in their store for a bit? Maybe they didn't like me swanning in through the doors and straight up to the counter? read more
