Chicken and Lamb Biriyani is probably the best you'll find in Sydney(apart from rockdale). I don't know what I'll do without this place.

Generous portions, excellent service and flavoursome food…read more Mehfil is a local gem, located within the hub of restaurants along pacific hwy in Gordon. Always packed on Friday nights, the gf and I decided to try takeaway & I'm grateful I did! Veggie samosas were punchy and spicy, with a great balance of starch and texture. Crisp and fresh, not overly potatoey like some others. Good stuff. We scoffed it down before I had a chance to take a photo... Garlic naan. Would you like some naan with that garlic? From the first bite the garlic hits you with its deliciously pungent aroma. They really don't skimp on the garlic here. Naan is more on the fluffy side rather than thin n crisp, really is personal preference. Great for soaking up the curry though. Rice is fluffy and fresh. Butter chicken is deliciously tender with bits of char to give it some character. Less sweet and more tangy than your average butter chicken. Very nice. Pardon the poor quality photos. We were too busy eating...

Started with papadams and mint dip, then a colliflower starter with a wonderful sauce and salad. For mains we had vegetables with a butter chicken type sauce and a prawn Balti and rice. What is great is that they know not to put coriander leaf on anything, even as a garnish, as we both detest the stuff and they make it to whatever heat level you like. We finished with a mango culfe to share. So long as they maintain their standard we will keep coming back.

The menu looked like it had several yummy options, so we tried to go here for supper last night…read more They were completely booked, so we tried again at lunch today. We started with Dutch croquettes for an entree (appetizer). They were delicious, reminding us of bitterballin in the Netherlands last year. Then we each ordered a meal. If we'd realized how much food came with each meal, we'd have split just one. I ordered the jaegar schnitzel, chicken, and it came with two huge cutlets, nicely coated and crispy, with a mushroom sauce on top. There was also potatoes rossi, which is like hash browns, super crispy on top layer, and a small bowl of vinegary coleslaw. The veal medallions were tender and tasty. That meal came with the same potatoes and some barely cooked mixed veggies...yum! There was too much for us to be able to eat it all. Being Anzac Day, they add 10% to the bill. Our server/host was friendly and helpful. We're glad we got to eat there while in Sydney.

The inside is simple - clean, casual and overseen by a large portrait of Franz Josef. There are a few German beers on tap, or you can opt for wine. They have a really nice Gruner 1.0L bottle for just $28. That's a good deal. If you're coming here, you should probably get schnitzel because they're quite good. The mister had the jaeger version and I stuck with the classic - both arrived with 2 pieces overhanging the plate along with a generous amount of roesti potatoes. Definitely more than either of us could finish, and we were hungry. Service is very nice and it's a family friendly place too.
