Hubs got the sandwich combo, which came with a medium coffee and was offered half/half from the fridge, which was nice. Another Yelper posted a pic of their Tiger Tail crumble that looked SO YUM I was tempted to get it. I have learned to purchase a single donut hole FIRST, taste and see if soy oil is used - it gives a nasty, rancid linger on my palate which ruins an otherwise occasional sweet treat. Most of the time the counter person looks confused by my request on ONE donut hole "to purchase and taste", but this gentleman smiled and "tonged" one to me. YUM! It tastes like a donut SHOULD! So I got the Tiger Tail crumble to go. He heated our croissant sandwiches and we ate them outside at their shaded tables - perfect! Just what we needed before continuing on the road. Hmmmm... donuts are generally tasty sweet treats that are hard to not love... tried a few different donuts from here and they were just so-so to be honest. Chocolate donut with peanuts on top was ok but sort of dry. The apple fritter was okay but not as sweet as you would expect. Service was interesting... it's a team of two where one worker greets and serves one customer while the other greets the next in line and so on.. they are so focused on fast service you get rushed and don't get to really look very much... the lady that works there seems angry. read more

I have driven by this place countless times and today i finally stopped in. My eclair donut, apple fritter, and regular donuts were placed in paper bags despite me asking for a box. To no surprise, they were smashed and unappetizing by the time I arrived at the office a few minutes later. Not sure if thr boxes are a business expense they want to avoid but I did spend over $20 on breakfast items so I feel like it wasn't too much to ask for. Apart from the packaging mishap, the food was fine. I tried the sugar donut and apple fritter and both had an aftertaste of oil. I came to this donut shop because it had great reviews. This is the third time I have gone to a restaurant or a food place in Santa Maria based on reviews, and I am beginning to think that the bar for quality food must be set pretty low. These were probably the worst donuts I've ever had in my life. First, they tasted like rancid grease. I bought an apple fritter, which is my absolute favorite thing, took one small bite of it, spit it out and threw the apple fritter in the trash. Immediately after I took a bite, I felt it I took one more bite of that Apple fritter I would be suffering from a horrific stomachache due to the rancid grease. I tried to bite of a chocolate doughnut, which was equally disgusting. The entire bag of donuts went into the trashcan. If you're going to consume empty calories, it has to be worth it. Maybe they were just having a bad day but, based on my first, and last experience at the donut shop, I would never recommend this place. I've been coming here for decades, I remember the other guy that use make the donuts at 5am, shoot him and I'm assuming the gal was his wife worked long hours, those 2 grew old with me, I got grew hair and he got grey hair, the gal never got grey. Those donuts were always fresh and warm and they were really nice. Today you have different people with basically the same products plus some, gotta change with the times. It was nice to see them working. I ordered a apple fritter and bear claw. It can get pretty crowded here--almost felt like a fish market, youre waiting to get your order filled minus no ticketing system! This placed has changed owners and you can tell. The donuts / breakfast croissants are not the same and neither is the service. I ordered a ham and egg sandwich and got this with no egg and a small piece of ham (see pic).... thinking it was mistake, i drove back and discretely asked to please fix it...the previously nice lady who said Merry Christmas when i left was now the lady raising her voice and making it clear that i made the mistake, which is impossible because i ordered off a picture menu. When i asked about the ham, she said, we only give one piece, when the pics on the menu show something TOTALLY different. Wow, I had no idea that donuts could taste so delicious and fresh! We stumbled upon this place while on a road trip so were unfamiliar with the shop. I ordered the apple fritter and was blown away by the chunks of actual fresh apples. My daughters ordered a couple of chocolate chip donuts which were crazy good. Next time I'll get the cinnamon twist which was so beautifully made with ribbons of cinnamon running through it. Master's is operated by a lovely & sweet family who start every morning at 4am making donuts fresh every day. While chatting and enjoying our donuts there was a steady stream of regulars coming in for their usual weekend fare and swearing how great the donuts always are. This sweet and hardworking family has been running masters for over 20 years after having learned the trade from an uncle. The mom & dad had come over from Cambodia after living years in a Thai refugee camp where their daughter was born. After arriving in the U.S. they rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Years of rising early and many long days of hard work (and putting their daughter through college) they've now got a thriving business of the most heavenly donuts.
