Master-Tech is the only place I will bring my 2008 Scion xD for repairs and regular maintenance. I drove out to California from Maine with my boyfriend in June of 2013 and had just had my front brakes replaced by a mechanic in Maine before the trip. The whole way out to California the car made a clunking sound over every bump in the road and I knew it had to be due to the brake job that was done prior to our departure (even after the brakes had been supposedly inspected twice by the mechanic who installed them). Long story short, a family member out here recommended Master-Tech, so I brought the car in and told them about the problem. The owner (or manager, I can't remember) came back out the lobby and asked that I follow him out to the bay where my car was and showed me that the mechanic in Maine had not installed one of the caliper bolts to hold my brakes in place. He then said the design of the frame of my car is what saved us from a horrible demise on I-80 somewhere in the middle of the US. He then helped me talk to the mechanic in Maine and take pictures of the damage (luckily not much) that was done to the vehicle further proving their mistake. Finally, he only charged me for the bolt itself and put my mind at ease thoroughly explaining what went wrong and how they would remedy the situation. Needless to say, I trust this mechanic more than any other I've used in the past. They are always are true to their word and great at explaining what needs to be done and why (and do not recommend anything more than what NEEDS to be done). This review is for a Smog Check. I called around 3:50 to ask if I needed an appointment and was told they were busy, but not at the Smog department so I could come in. I brought my car in 10 minutes later and was told it would be 30-45 minutes. 20 minutes later they were done! I used a coupon so it was only $38.25 for my Escape, including the certificate fee. The woman at the front desk was also very nice- probably the best experience I've had at an auto shop. read more

I will never take my car any place else! Richard Cruz (owner of Master Tech) was honest and the repair work was done in a timely manner. My car's "check engine" light was on and consequently would not pass a smog check. I did the mistake of taking it to a mechanic in Sacramento who told me the repairs would be in the hundred's of dollars. Needless to say I was astounded and quite dismayed to hear this. My brother referred me to Smog Tech. Richard quickly determined what needed to be repaired and fixed the problem. His work is excellent and his staff is most pleasant. He not only saved me a great deal of time; he also saved me allot of grief and money. In addition he kindly referred me to a smog facility (star rated) in town. They tested my car and it passed smog. Went to Master Tech on 9-27. My check engine lite was on. They said it might be pvc valve. Put new valve on $140. Drive Jeep around. Lite came back on. This time they say I need new catylitic converter. But I can get aftermarket one for $1,700.00. I thought that was high. Drive over to Hoblit Jeep Dodge. New catylitic converter & smog. $1,350.00 out the door. Taking my daughters Scion to get check engine off & get car smogged today. Guess where I won't take it?? read more

My husband and I have been taking our cars here for a while now and have always been extremely impressed with their honesty and good work. We have had everything from oil changes to complete engine replacement done here. Just yesterday, my car lost power/momentum on the freeway but I was able to get it it back to Woodland hoping my transmission wasn't going out. Rich called this morning that it was just a sensor problem and will be fixed by this afternoon! A couple of years ago, my car "blew up" on me on my way to work - a lot of shops I know of would told me I needed a new radiator/water pump/whatever...nope, they replaced the clip that held my water hose to the water pump and I was out the door in a couple of hours for $100 or so. But the 5 stars is all b/c Rich and the Master Tech team provided another 5 star service for one of my vehicles. I come from a family of mechanics (I have the cleanest hands of everyone though), so had a hunch of what the issue was. Rich explained everything his team had to do to diagnose the issue and b/c they are prepared for the season, had all the parts in shop. Master Tech is a family owned business located in the busy downtown streets of Woodland. We were recommended by a family friend who has been going here for years. The reason why they are a five star business isn't only because of the work they do, but because they are honest. In the Auto-Mechanic industry it is hard to find an honest business. I have a Honda Accord in which there was white buildup on my battery and was told by another local business it had to be replaced. Turns out they were flat out lying and I had it checked out by a family friend who said there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, the buildup could be easily removed. Master Tech is honest in that they don't overcharge you and tell you exactly what is wrong with your car and whether or not you need to get to fixed/replaced. We brought our family van in for maintenance and asked them to change/fix (I'm not too sure how to phrase it.. I don't know too much about the nitty gritty details regarding cars lol) the spark plug. They told us that it didn't need to be fixed/replaced so they were not going to perform maintenance on it. They could have just charged money for the spark plug; they could have gotten 100% pure profit from such a white lie that we would have never even known about, but they didn't. And that's being honest and respectable. The integrity of this business will go far, and maybe that's why they have been in good business for years. read more

My wife and I took her 2012 VW Beetle to Master Tech for an oil change. We usually bring our own oil and filter and they do the labor. We came there with two 5 quart jugs, 1 new and 1 with 4 quarts left (1 quart was used at the last oil change). The car takes approximately 6 quarts and we came with essentially 9 quarts of oil + filter. It wasn't until we got home that we realized they didn't return the unused oil. There should have been 3 quarts left over. Where did it go? Did they fill my wife's car with 9 quarts or did they keep the remaining 3 quarts? I did check the dip stick and it does show a little over the max line but I don't know if that means there is 3 more quarts in there or not. They closed early today and they are not open Sunday so I cannot call them until Monday to figure out what happened. Obviously it is safer if they just forgot to give us back the oil versus them putting all 9 quarts of oil in the car. That may cause damage. read more

I recently took my 2004 Honda Accord to Master Tech to get the 105k mile service done and a full service oil change and was satisfied until a few days later when I noticed a few what appeared to be oil drops on my garage floor. I took it back with my invoice and the car was looked at. They put a dye in it to find the leak and told me to come back the next day. I returned the next day to have them tell me to return the next day that they couldn't see where the leak was from. So I returned the next day to have them tell me it might be the transmission and to return in a few days yet again. So I returned yet again, to have them say they don't know what it is, to return once more, and this time I will have to leave the car for the day so they could look again. I dropped my car off this morning to have them call me 3 hours later telling me a seal happened to go bad (at the same time they were servicing my car mind you) and it would cost me another $700.00 to fix. I will never take my car here again, and will deter friends and family from having anything "serviced" or "repaired" here. While sitting in the lobby waiting for my car I overheard an older couple talking about something starting to leak after a recent service there too. I will admit they are friendly here and had a constant smile, but I'd be smiling too if I had just swindled someone out of nearly $1700.00. read more

I went in there today because of a check engine light. I made an appointment to be back 1 hour later since it was lunch time for everyone. When I came back the place was rocking and rolling. There were so many customers they receptionists didn't have time to breathe between phone calls and walk ins. Both of the ladies were nice and polite. It took about 40 minutes for my car diagnostic. It was an easy fix and my light is off now. While in the waiting room I saw that many of the customers were on a first name basis with the ladies, which is nice. Also, I saw one interaction that lasted basically the entire time I was there. A very odd and confrontational customer that was asking the same questions over and over again to the ladies as well as what looked like the boss. I felt bad for the staff because the customer was not easy to work with, but they maintained composure and were nice and polite to her throughout the interaction. read more

My splash guard on my car was hanging down from one side so I called a couple of places and I was getting around $30 just to look at it. Driving down main st I saw this place and decided to see what it would cost here. Walked in and in about 15 minutes I was told it was reattached and I pulled out my wallet and was told "don't worry about it" if I could leave more stars I would! I went here about 2 years ago with my 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. At first would give them 5 stars. Then After a while went to another shop and found out that my truck takes special oil called Dexos. I did not believe them so I checked my owners manual because Master Tech put in regular oil before. I checked and it states Dexos approved oil only if any other oil is used warranty may be void. So I will never go back to Master Tech they cant even put the right oil in my truck they might have even voided my warranty. read more
